UAT - Testing / Playing with Devs

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by jbregg, Mar 30, 2017.

?

Are you interested in testing/playing with the Devs on the latest build?

  1. I'd want to play but not test.

  2. Not interested.

  3. Sign me up!

  4. I would be interested but the time of the test is an issue.

Results are only viewable after voting.
  1. CQC shouldn't affect RoF at all. It should increase spread and damage and that's about it.

I generally agree. However, that would just create a Stormbolter.
  3. Yeah, it kinda would create something similar. But with different costs and different stats. Still, a CQC barrel should do what a CQC barrel does, and not just something that might be useful but is unrealated to the nature of the mod.

    @Pierrick
Disclaimer: This post is based on the premise that the current changes on UAT to the Boltgun are but the first step of a bigger plan.
The Bolter currently loses approximately 40DPS (230->190) and becomes less accurate in hipfire. It also sees an increase in recoil, however that is still trivial.
I expect the Shuriken Catapults and a number of other weapons to see similar changes. What I want to do in this post is offer an alternative approach.

    1) Why not just lower DPS?
I will admit that I think the general TTK in EC is already very high. Not excessively, but very. I don't think it should be much higher however, that is not the premise of this post.
Now, for Eldar specifically, it actually feels really good. Both sides have time to react but next to no room for error. Fights don't take very long and it is hard to escape alive.
Hence, I would like to propose an idea that keeps the game fair without reducing the DPS on our weaponry.

    2) Why not lower health or armour?
This would be an obvious solution: Just nerf defensive-stats and you have the same, relative TTK as before.
However, there are way too many variables. Too many weapons that probably won't get adjusted that we already struggle more against than others.

    3) Actual TTK.
A Tactical Marine might run with ~390 EHP, a Dire Avenger with 280, the DPS (live) is 230/290 respectively.
    The TTK/bodyshots is 1.345(Avenger->Marine) and 1.217(Marine->Avenger)
This is for a Twin-Linked ASC which, similar to the UAT-Bolter often works better in ADS than hipfire on medium range (20-50m).
Realistically speaking, the higher damage-increments of the Boltgun might mean it kills slightly faster than on paper(especially on Headshots), however I will not take that into consideration right now, it also has its downsides.
For UAT, the TTK is (1.345/1.474)
What this means is that the difference between Bolter and TLASC is almost fair in both events. Both UAT and live are somewhat balanced in TTK.
The problems are: Relative Spread (Solved on UAT), Grenades, and clip-size(Not solved but less prevalent after reload-speed-buff and drum-mag nerf).
In other words: We, more or less, have 'balance'. Eldar grenades could use a small buff, but that is for a different topic

    4) Solution.
Now, I would like to look at an aspect I, so far, conveniently left out: Enhance. This, very powerful buff, can relatively effortlessly be sustained on an entire team. It reduces all damage taken by 20% and increases all outgoing hitscan damage by 20%.
An Enhanced DA on live is equal to- or slightly stronger than a Tactical Marine. Which makes sense, as we have a buff and they don't.
An Enhanced DA on UAT should, usually, tear a Tactical Marine apart.
It has often been criticized, how much Eldar rely on Enhance: Without it, we are weak, with it, we are competitive.
Rather than sustaining this status quo at slightly lower TTK, I would advise to simply get rid of one component of Enhance.
The spell is powerful enough and will still see plenty of use, it will leave us slightly weaker in our prime and the same in our darkest hours, hopefully helping to compensate for the 'Eldar-Steamroll-effect'
My personal recommendation would be to remove the damage-buff. If TTK is supposed to be higher, its an obvious choice.
It is also more consistent, as most buffs are defensive in nature. In fact, I think all offensive buffs are for melee but this one.
Finally, this will hurt the Ranged fighters but have next to no effect on Warlocks, Scorpions, Banshees and Autarchs.

Whether or not 'just' nerfing an Enhance will be enough very much depends on the changes that you, in the end, decide on. Right now, the Bolter feels a lot weaker than it should be based on its stats. That is probably just due to being used to firing a monster.
I think my favorite part about these changes is that heavy classes might become a regular part of an assault-squad for the added Firepower.

Well they are veterans....don’t really think I need to go beyond that to justify. The only compromise I could agree to would be that it’s a percentage chance rather than outright, so lascannon, and then you have a 50% chance of just downed or something along that line.

As long as the "auto into-downed" for vets is a thing, it's gonna HAVE to yield something for vet khorne-users and vet orks during waaagh.. because it's incredibly imbalanced and "discriminating" vs those that cannot be granted this unquestionably overpowered mechanic

Even something like double melee damage&impact for those not getting it isn't even of comparable strength.. PARTICULARLY in comparison to vet apothecary heal-nade camping with such a crazy OP feature.

Whereas I understand your general point, please try to be less ridiculous about it.
    Veteran tickets mean nothing.
Dying, in general, in EC means nothing.
Downstate, 90% of the time, is useless. If you are unlucky some noob picks you up by hand. Its not usually worth it to wait and hope for a healer to ress you lest you are on a HTL-map. Veteran or not.

Khorne very specifically pays this very (low) price for costly stat-bonuses. For Orks it should not usually have an impact because you draw Veteran tickets at the beginning of a match, not the end.

I understand your concerns, it is slightly 'unfair' but far from being even remotely 'overpowered'.
The apothecary-thing could be worth looking into tho.
If all overflow-damage is ignored, they actually could be next to immortal as long as the healing-beacon is active, albeit tied into permanent downstate.

I dont undrrstand your point about the beacon tho , if u get downed even near a beacon all usual threats still apply , you will still die
  10. Lady Rheeva Steam Early Access

The healing-ticks are very fast. If you go into down-state with 99.9% health, you will heal immediately. Making it very hard to fully kill you. As I said tho: stuck in downstate and any explosive can just remove the beacon without effort.
