Out of sheer bloody mindedness I'm still mostly on Melee, mostly it is an absolute miserable pain filled ordeal though I get a few shining moments. I had this Tactical Easymode spamming us with bolt rounds, I hit behind a crate while he killed two of my allies, he went up to execute one of them and introduced the back of his eye socket to my fist. Moments later I managed to rescue both my allies from the brink of death before finishing off that Tactical with a casual plasma round to the stump that was his head (I find shooting them in the face to be fitting, I reserve executions for proper fights between Melee.
Nope, Ranged is absolutely easymode, denying this is dangerous to the health of our games future. This guy said it best: This right here^ Ranged = Point + Click (anyone who has used any operating system that has a mouse ever can do this) Melee = Alternate between Tapping RMB Holding RMB down Tapping Defensive Bash key (if bound properly otherwise its hold both L&RMB down) While evading in, out and around endless streams of fire While being bailed up in clangs / inconsistent RPS responses While being far more reliant on latency than Ranged ever will be While traversing the environment hoping that no one sees you and shoots you down from half way across the zone from said endless stream of fire Your absolutely kidding yourself if you think that Ranged and Melee have the same skill sealing, Ranged is, and always has been undeniably easymode. Patch 1.3+ has just made that even more apparent. Nope, There was what 1 patch in beta that lasted a month? where Melee lunge distance was around three times it is now, the kill sprees I saw the average player get was rediculous, people where raking up kills in the 60's easy. That was promptly squashed, since then its been nothing but a Ranged bitch fest about how hard they have it, they cried and cried and Melee got nerfed over and over again until we Melee where left the absolute butt of the joke that is Melee in its current state. This happened because Ranged far out populate Melee and for F2P to go live they needed to make Ranged easymode to get the general public who are used to the Ranged meta to buy in. So again, don't kid yourself. Yep, I'm not asking Melee to be returned to the state it was for that 1 patch IN BETA because that was ridiculously broken, not nearly as hilariously broken that Ranged is now but thats the point, we're POST RELEASE now and Ranged is more broken than Melee ever was in open beta. I would hope its just that they don't know how to balance Melee vrs Ranged. We'll go with that shall we. Thats better than the much more obvious Ranged pandering that's going on. And don't try and bring this back to "JPA OP". Ranged tears ruined the entire Melee system for everyone not just JPA who got hit the hardest.
Seriously, it's not anything to do with how many buttons you need to push, neither playstyle in EC (which most people, myself included, indulge in both of, incidentally - my profile pic isn't chosen for the lulz) requires a particularly excessive amount of button coordination. Especially since the RPS melee system is essentially a 'true' RPS system - i.e. boils down to guesswork, not reacting to animations. We're not talking about bloody Streetfighter here, both are perfectly simple and can be boiled down to: Ranged = Aiming at target and holding down LMB Controlling recoil Maintaining A-D lateral movement while avoiding terrain Tapping Defensive Bash key (if bound properly otherwise its hold both L&RMB down) While predicting your target's motion and watching for animations While being alert to incoming melee units requiring a D-Bash While being far less reliant on latency than Melee, granted While traversing the environment hoping that no one sees you and shoots you down from half way across the zone from said endless stream of fire Melee = Tapping RMB Holding RMB down Tapping Defensive Bash key (if bound properly otherwise its hold both L&RMB down) While evading in, out and around endless streams of fire While being bailed up in clangs / inconsistent RPS responses While being far more reliant on latency than Ranged ever will be While traversing the environment hoping that no one sees you and shoots you down from half way across the zone from said endless stream of fire
I'd say it occupies about as much grey matter as "do I tap RMB, or hold RMB?". Which is not much. At all.
I remember a video of @Saeritan called "RMB spam"... Funny enough, there hasn't been a "LMB spam" or "point and click" video, but that would make a great title wouldn't it? Fear not, tho, I think such a video is currently in production. The producer is only having trouble getting kills without touching his keyboard (safe for space-bar).
That's just because the individuals who would make a LMB spam video are not petty enough to stoop to such a level. Obviously the people who would make a RMB spam video are, which isn't surprising if you like to point fingers at the individuals who make the most ruckess around here.
