IIRC didn't the devs already mention something about Nids maybe attacking the faction with most territory by some sort of default mechanism already?

You think this because of the official poll ? Then here is some material to think further : And 30% of f2p players is a pretty low estimation...
and thats based on... assumptions? Remember Estimating is not exact-o-mating we'll see - sure theres going to be f2p orks - their free. but once people see what the games all about your going to see alot of people joining the SM or CSM. Eldar i perdict are going to be a low %.
Would make sense for the Nids to focus on the weaker factions first, for that would make it easier for them to get that precious biomass. But in a balancing way for the game experience... Well let's just say it would be cool for the underdog factions to have some special events to make the nids focus on the enemy. For instance having to deliver fabricated luremines to enemy outposts. Or having to subdue a Synapse creatures and move them into an enemy base to lure the rest of the hive to it. Just spewing some random first thoughts.

I would love to see an element allowing Tyranids to evolve with each kill and progress their domination of the continent if left alone. This would add a real reason for PVE
Would be nice indeed to see tyranids rising in power if nothing is done and going from objectives to objectives to devour all life, thus preventing any factions to do anything but to fight them until the swarm goes weak enough. Would be an interesting PvPvE. But still I think they could play even a light role in PvP thanks to players, thus the weakest faction to avoid blatant abuses as to help balancing the dominance of factions.
yes, that would be awesome, it would make people do PVE at least some, and that might lead to some cool moments where in a the middle of a fight between 2 sides some nids might show up and they would have to team up on the nids
