How do you see the tyranids? how would a termagant brood move on the battlefield? how fast and resilient should a carnifex be? how intelligent should genestealers be? how powerful and deadly should a tyranid warrior be? this thread is for everyone who wants to share their vision of how a swarm of bioengineered space dinobugs should behave as npcs in a game like eternal crusade note for the devs: please, PLEASE don't use the stats on games workshop codex to decide how tough a tyranid is
I want to see them act as a relentless swarm. Thats it What is wrong with using the GW stats to decide how tough they are? Hopefully the time to kill is going to be fairly similar to killing someone of the opposing faction. If they are too easy to kill, then what's the point of having them in. Or did you mean GW made them too hard to kill. The devs have mentioned that they will be making a video game that won't match the lore perfectly so I expect a certain level of "artistic" license to be taken with stats etc
I want allot, ALLOOOOT of cannon fodder gaunts to infest and ruin. But what id also like to see is what DoW2 did with warriors, as in they could jump on your face and push you to the ground, where you will become a delicious morsel for the gaunts and rippers.
GW repeatedly failed to represent the toughness of some tyranid beasts like the carnifex and the tyranid warrior for example to kill a warrior on the tabletop you need the same number of bolter rounds needed for a standard space marine (8) here's a rough size comparison this on the tabletop happens because of the stats limited to a scale from 1 to 10 (and the poor balance that GW puts it its games) and because of the instant death mechanic: a weapon with strength double or greater than the target toughness value kills it instantly, instead of causing 1 wounds only, for example a missile launcher kills instantly a warrior that need 3 wounds to be killed normally, making them toughness 5 would make them capable of taking 3 missiles to the face without dying and from a game balance and bg point it isn't good (making missiles str10 isn't an option since GW made them str8 from the beginning, and str10 would interfere with vehicle balance and other stuff) but tyranid warriors from a bg point are both stronger and tougher than a marine (while their armour can't fully compete with a space marine power armour) and don't come usually in greater numbers raveners and shrikes(winged warriors) are easier to kill than a warrior on the tabletop while in the bg they're basically the same carnifices are another unit that need imo to not be based on the tabletop stats, where on average you need 6 plasma pistol shots to kill one because they can come in relatively big broods (and aren't the biggest monsters around) so it would be really easy to kill one the 4 missiles/lascannon hits represent more what is needed to kill a beast like that tyranids are too easy to kill on the tabletop as marines are too so if marines get more similar to the bg I would expect an equally fearful tyranid warrior gaunts should be made in greater numbers instead to represent the swarm aspect that on a tabletop is limited
Under synapse I'd like to see the gants have more synchronized movements and actually focus fire to a certain extent and the gaunts running from cover to cover in order to close on the enemy. When their synapse gets cut off, they'd probably be going everywhere trying to hide and take pot shots at whatever they see (termagants), or charging blindly at the enemy in a strait line (hormagaunts). Warriors should probably be slightly above a space marine in terms of capabilites. They should be a challenge to take out in combat but nothing over the top. Carnifexes charge forward and crash into the enemies lines sending infantry flying and tearing tanks apart. Without synapse I'd imagine them going berserk and trampling their allies underfoot in their rage. I'd like antitank weapons to be required to take these guys out in a timely manner. I'd like to see hive tyrants present in only the largest swarms. They should be the most terrifying thing on the battlefield, sort of a living embodiment of the death and destruction that Tyranids bring. One random thing I think would be really cool is having Lictors lurking around an area for a little while before an attack actually comes. Managing to spot them gives you advanced warning to prepare a defense and killing them all might delay the attack by another couple of minutes.
I like your way of thinking, Nyuklehead. Same things I was going to suggest! Now that you said what I would have said, I think i'll simply say: I think the Tyranid swarm should be as they will be... DEAD BENEATH ME AND MY BROTHERS' FEET! hahaa
I would hate to see the tyranids as a useless threat. they should be able to hold their own in eternal crusade even if that means they come in unpredictable numbers.
For swarming gaunts, I want to see lots. Many of the middle ground close combat and ranged weapons of all 4 playable races will make short work of the smaller tyranids. I wonder if we'll see the disadvantages of instinctive behaviour when synapse creatures are killed, that would be cool to see.
What I would absolutely love to see is for this situation to occur. Two factions are fighting over a facility when all of a sudden spore pods crash down all around and inside the facility carrying dozens of Tyranids. I would like to see a ratio of at least 3 Tyranids to 1 player (both factions included). The arrival of Tyranids on a contested facility needs to radically change the perspective of the battle on both sides from "take and hold these points" to "holy crap I'm just trying to stay alive." Also for the leaders of each side to switch focus from the facility to consolidating their faction in order to stave off the invasion and still have a footing in the facility when it's all over.
