so the population grows, random nid attacks grow?
if this is indeed so, thats incredibly standard.
I would like to see a mechanic where the strategic part on maplevel/campaignlevel can be influenced by manipulation of clever strategy, something along the line of my OP.

when a faction can indirectly tinker with the path a swarm is taking there will be way more cohesion between the players who prefer PVE and those who prefer PVP.
    deeper metagame, more cohesion.

if its jsut, the bigger you get the more nids, and the map is nothing more but some tiles to steamroll for the largest faction, that will get boring real soon.
No idea just how final worldmap is, but they better come up with something more than heroes and generals in 40k setting.

Manipulation might be possible. If I am correct in that nid swarms will move out from a certain territory, a VERY organized faction could create a wall of nid controlled territory between themselves and a neighboring faction. Just let the nids take certain territories, like a spreading forest fire, and ceed territory on the other side until the other faction bunps up against the nid wall. However, I don't see this being very effective since I imagine that a group of PvP defenders is much more effective at holding back an attack than nids. Plus, the territory bonuses will make it better to stomp the nids out than use them as a shield.

But who knows. Perhaps a high level skill would be some sort of nid manipulation. I don't think so, since the point of nids seems to be 1) fun 2) BUUUUUUUG HUNT!!! 3) Automatic balancing mechanic to keep us in an...wait for it...wait for it...Eternal Crusade.
  3. Please just leave fancy mechanics out and just let us play PvE whenever and how often we want. I'm bored of PvP and some people already....

    nothing fancy about it.
you gotta have deeper strategic options otherwise it will get boring real quick.
this game intends to have a lifespan of a decade or more, they better think real good about the setup right now, so they may have an easier time, deepening and adding to the mechanics years down the road.
short term vision such as omg termies omg jetbikes etc. is forgotten 3 months after launch.
yes you have a new class, but factions stumble around on the same tiled map, jsut a different campaign which means maps with diff skins and setups.

meaningful chokepoints, bottlenecks, bridges over chasms, etc gives us the option to have more dynamic strategy layers to the game.

  6. I'd prefer them to just be dungeons and raids, qued as in.. their own mode.
It'd generally be better and has more potential than if they had to spend a shit ton of time trying to get them to work with the main game.
    Sxep and TheWalkingDerp like this.
  7. Then you are falling back on buffs or queues to even out pop imbalances, neither of which people general like. Well they like the buffs :D, but only the ones getting them. (Not counting a diplomacy system as an idea ofc)
  8. That might be the case for when we're nearing open world but as long as the game is a lobby shooter it's not even worth the effort to implement deeper mechanics - and then making the same effort again because it doesn't work with open world anymore. A PvE mode separated from PvP will work better for now imo and saves a lot of time. L4D and L4D 2 didn't offer that much variety either and you played the same crap over and over again. Yet still people played the shit out of it and some still do.

    That's what I mean.
  9. Specific spots where you can always find PVE and locations that vary don't have to be mutually exclusive. The only issue there is splitting the PVE playerbase a bit.
  10. Well I just want to play PvE whenever I want and not when the game decides to pop up an PvE event, or when I'm lucky to get into one because the others are full already.
