I imagine it similar to colonial marines hunting xenomorphs. In the scenario you get an outpost and a warning that psykers have detected Tyranid-infiltrators in the general area. Lictors are too fast, too strong, too tough and too invisible for you to be able to hunt it down all by yourself. That means grouping up to get the numerical advantage and methodically searching and clearing the compound. And you have to get them before the clock runs down. The Genestealer-scenario would be the other way round: Here we have lots of weak enemies. Here it's better to spread out to find them all before the clock runs down. And it would be really mean if you don't know if you are hunting Lictors or Genestealers. IDEA: A two-step approach. First, Tyranid infiltrators. If you fail to kill them all before the time is up, that means some time in the near future there will be a major Tyranid attack on the outpost.

Brent Ellison: There are five different types of base Tyranids in production right now - we may have more before launch, and of course there will be many more after that. However, we’re building them in such a way that they can have different weapons and loadouts just like players so each Tyranid can be used in a multitude of different ways. We haven’t revealed all of them yet so right now I’ll just say that you’ll definitely see Hormagaunts, Termagaunts and Warriors.
I would bet the other two are Genestealers and Hive Tyrants to start. The others are more likely to be added sometime down the road. And I serve my Tyranids with a chipotle glaze T
Is that an official-ish bet ? Hive Tyrants would be cool. Genestealers are cool, my favorite species actually, but do they fit lore wise ? I'd go with Ripper swarms or Spores at this stage. Zoanthropes with different abilities would make for challenging L4D type content. At any rate, I like the multiple loadouts for Nid concept. That should lend a lot of variance and unpredictability to the waves/clusters as long as the NPC generation rules are solid. So many good choices, but it would also be great to have a list of Synapse-independant or Brood creatures that could end up being playable somewhere down the line (Lictors, Stealers, Zoas etc). Not a necessity early on but holy shit, would that sell some expansion content to Nid fans and one-man-army players who want to channel some EVOLVE asymmetry down the line
No, no, don't get me in trouble with Brent and Nathan, Laan! I officially don't know anything more than what Brent stated in the article! I'm just applying some 40K common sense about what is needed as opposed as to what would be cool. T
I think Zoanthropes would come later Grig. The way I see it, you get both types of 'gaunt, so you can have your "horde" style encounters. Tyranid warriors as the synapse leaders of said hordes. Genestealers to give the four factions a legitimate and deadly threat, and Hive Tyrants to have a valid "boss" monster. The rest of the 'nids (Lictors, Zoanthropes, Hive Guards, etc.) make more sense to me if they come later, as the Hive evolves. I could be completely off though, wouldn't be the first time T
zoanthropes look like a nice variation in gameplay: easier to kill but dangerous a priority target to spot in the middle of the hordes of enemy. I don't want that tyranids become bullet sponge like some orks or space marine in THQ space marine.
Who me, tee hee hee ? Same. It's that deliberate, jarring content punctuation between the hordes of melee and Termagant bio-weapons. Pretty much the tactical punch that some of the L4D/Warframe waves introduce (ironically thinking of the long ranged MOAs/Sniper Grineer rather than Infested). In gameplay terms they'd force some interesting choices in strategizing wargear away from automatic weapons and flamer/AE type tools. Did your team remember their Stalker/Long Rifle ? On the other hand they are much rarer than Stealers, who make some sense as a newer/awakened invasion force. Lictors would make sense too. Zoas represent a fairly advanced Hive
