Really all the vets should have taken a few days off. Nothing is gained when we crush these new players, EC only loses. We don't have a new player system shoving low ranks with low ranks for a few games. Imagine going into the game, not knowing how to cap/heal/dbash, and 4 people on the other team have 30 to 40 kills and the highest you have is 8.... Its pretty damn depressing and not healthy for the game at all. Badmouthing is just the shit-cherry on top of the already shitty-sundae. If you are a vet with a lot of new players, typing in commands like "F to Heal", "X to change weapon modes", "RMB+LMB = Defensive bash" goes a long way. We need to be training an elevating these players. They are the new blood and the future. The success of EC depends on it.
Mute global option. Done. You're never going to stop people talking shit. So an option to disable chat would be great for thin-skinned people.
first of all, just pointing this out to new people: jesse is a troll, dont mind his purposeful inexperience, you just get used to him.
Unfortunately this is online gaming as a whole not just an issue in EC, being anonymous online brings out the worst in a lot of players. I can still remember a match when i was pretty new orkz vs eldar, after stomping a hole in us (mostly new players) a few members of an ork guild (being 11 of the 15 players btw) had the gall to start insulting us as well. All I typed back was "yeah that's a great attitude after a pug stomp for a low pop game" which of course I was called a space fairy for. Game really needs a report function
Were they rp shit talking like orks would talk to eldar or were they actually shit talking like calling you scrubs and shit bags and whatnot. There's actually quiet a big difference as the rp is actually kinda funny while the other is just shitty.
Some people just like being assholes for the sake of being assholes. It gives some sort of purpose to their life and/or they're trying to create a well known "persona" in the game community because you know...people these days all think they need to be internet/game stars and are the next twitch icon. *shrug* I ignore them, fire back once and awhile but it would be nice if they exercised the third option of self restraint at least once and awhile.
People acting like assholes in an online game? Say it ain't so Unfortunately that type of behavior is inescapable any time you have some semblance of competition in a multiplayer game. In EC this is worsened by the fact that individuals in the 40k community tend to be extremely biased toward their favorite faction. You'll never stop it, the only thing you can do is try to educate the noobs so they don't get stomped so hard they decide to quit BECAUSE THERE STILL ISN'T AN ACTUAL TUTORIAL TO SHOW NEW PEOPLE HOW TO PLAY.
Well, it somehow is underway. On UAT's garrison you can find an iteration of some tutorial, but it's very basic. It lets you train against a living tyranid Gaunt though. Problem: tyranids aren't affects by RPS system, so new players won't be understanding the real deal of melee apart from RMB spam. I'm sure they are working on it though. (This first iteration is somewhat a proof of that)
If you need an on off button for in game chat and don't have the ability to look at a jerk chat say wow, that dudes and asshole, and move on with your life you may have issues yourself. Also most new people aren't rage quitting because of big meany heads, they're rage quitting because the game itself is unbalanced and not new player friendly.
It's really not that unbalanced. I've killed and been killed by every damn class/weapon combo imaginable. Everything has it's place, it's moment and it's weakness. Some things might be overtuned, but nothing is wildly out of balance. I also do not get the unending perception that the "nice people" are always the ones that need to be the adult and ignore. Why do we have to shoulder all the responsibility? If you like running your mouth ok, but does it have to be EVERY game? Do your share once and awhile and shut up to give people who ignore you a break from having to ignore you lol. I say this as someone who's skin is thick and calloused and gross from years of online gaming, but we are in dire need of encouraging people to stick around. Pissing someone off verbally after they just got their asses handed to them because they have no idea how the game works yet adds to their already frustrated state of mind and then eventually they just say "fuck it" and never come back which is BAD.
