He still thinks that you have to complete the game to unlock additional content? Tell him to grow up, since now all cool kids want to pay for extra content in order to have real fun!
The Chaos preorder stuff was a shit move. I don't know... CA seems to just be making bad choices upon bad choices. Certain places can't be conquered based on race? Pre order dlc packs... I mean. I enjoy chaos. And they were likely going to make it into the game one way or an other. So I don't care TOO Much? But enough that I'm on the sidelines when it comes to buying it. Not to mention the lack of vampire counts gameplay.
Chaos Pre-Order reeks of shit moves because they already Exist as the big bad faction that will attempt to Curbstomp everyone as part of the late/end game Campaign, They just walled them off as being playable as a preorder.
It's like if the age of empires to remake said "Get the brit's now if you pre order! Use the exlusive longbowman to take on your enemies from extreme ranges! Only in the brit preorderpack." And then in the game they're still there regardless or not if you buy it.
Thing is a lot of people try to forward blame onto SEGA, even I admit I at one point did also. But, now as I get to understand things more clearly, it's not all SEGA's fault ... not entirely. The biggest problem with SEGA is that their leadership is so incredibly anti-consumer it's staggering. They are completely disconnected from customers on top of being shareholder and market stock focused. They care more about the value of their shares and the company bottom line than they care about the quality of products they back. You find that the times when they push for DLC, major pre-order bonuses and other such garbage tends to always coincide with the company going into a slight on their stock value. Whenever it drops, they freak out and look for ways to milk money out of gamers to keep their heads above water. This cycle of drop and rise has being going on for at least 5 years now and instead of trying to take a risk and invest in products or intellectual properties they themselves own, they instead look to their 2nd party owned products in the west to target the fanbases of those companies to exploit to try and brake even. Due to this business approach, they put strong pressures on owned developers to make a massive profit on the projects they invest. Biggest problem with CA is that the people working there are comfortable, they like a regular paycheck and they want to keep working there, they don't want to work on a project, then get laid off and be forced to move in order to find another job, as there are no other studios local to where they are. Add to this how pathetic, stupid and snivelling the CEO of CA is (he really is a dumb man), you can imagine how easily they cave into the pressures SEGA applies to them. They found a method to bank a lot of money and keep the team constantly paid, so they went with it and that policy is either going to stay the same or get worse. For things to get better, they would need to have someone in charge who has enough willpower, intelligence and social influence to make not only a stand to SEGA, but to actually encourage them to take risks and be pro consumer. Which I doubt will ever happen, because the people at CA, especially the people in charge care more about keeping their jobs in the short term than actually gaining loyal customers, simply because their products are so popular that they know that the few disgruntled vocal minorities who protest on the internet will only be a small blip in the scheme of things, because regardless their games always sell well, regardless of the crap people say about them post sale.
See... I want to buy the newest game. I really do. But there's the whole mentality of "But how long will this go on?" I don't want to make a slippery slope argument but in my head, that's what's going on. I can't keep supporting them, and expect them to change at the same time. It's illogical, because I'm showing them the willingness to provide them with my wallet, without my concerns being heard. It's their first fantasy TW, and if it sells bad they might think "Oh, our fanbase are only about history!" Which simply isn't true... But where does it all end? Not buying this game likely won't stop the 2 others in the trilogy from coming out but... It does send CA/Sega that fantasy isn't the way to go if enough people do it. And nothing will have been learned. Then again... Perhaps I shouldn't expect them to learn.
Honestly the only way to buy Total War games is to wait until all DLC is released and then get the complete game on a steam sale.
