The RIP section confused the hell out of me when I saw it. I thought it was just the name of the "locked and archived threads" section since a lot of forums give them colorful names.

I think it's bizarre, unnecessary, inappropriate, and I think it is harming people. The existence of this thread clearly demonstrates that people are taking genuine offense to RIP section remarks which is one of the few ways you could "harm" someone on the internet.

I agree that this section shouldn't be here. It's not appropriate for a video game forum.

We're taking offence/disrespect at humour-intended threads because they're in a section related to death?

Next we'll see Simon Pegg getting a lawsuit for Shaun of the Dead.

I have to agree with this.
  4. The only RIP that, IMO, should matter in regards to anything 40k is:

    Retraining
    Indoctrination
    Punishment

Apart from that, the way I've always seen it is this: there is real life, there is online. The two don't mix well. It only leads to internet drama and internet drama is... well... It tends to make people go full retard. Apart from that, it also tends to start with washing your dirty underwear in a forum and ends with ID theft.

It's one of the reasons why I zealously guard my RL info.

If someone dies in my real life it's not the internet's business to know about. I'm not going to talk about it either. The way I see it doing so is basically whoring for attention.

Bottom line: no, I don't know you, I don't care about your life. And let's be perfectly honest: You don't care about mine either. We're acquaintances. That's the best possible outcome, really. Like the people in my apartment building when I meet them in the elevator. I don't really care about them either. They exist. Okay. That's it.

Friends? The requirements one has to fulfill to get on that list of mine... It's easier to become a Navy SEAL.

I don’t agree with seeing threads involving people that have died for whatever reason in a community forum. Although I can understand the “need” for it but I certainly do not agree with it.

The best way to handle it in my opinion is simply discussing about it with people who is relevant to the deceased within a clan forum or otherwise.

    Thread in a nutshell:

Guy 1: "I don't agree with this thread that is entirely unrelated and otherwise not directly affecting me. It should be removed!"
Guy 2: "This subforum should be removed because it's unrelated to Eternal Crusade."
Guy 1: "But it isn't directly affecting you so why should it be removed?"

To the people talking about trolls and assholes; you're just as bad with your "I don't like it so it should be removed" mentality. We're all (supposed to be) adults here. If you don't like something, ignore it. If it really bothers you that much, then PM the guy who made the thread and ask him to get it moved. If he's a prick about it, then involve a mod.

As much as you people want it to be, they're not telling a joke who's punchline is a dead cat to someone who just lost their cat.

They're using death as a joke; not the death of someone as a joke.

Something that I do find funny in this sub-forum, in its own little twisted way is that this thread was created with the purpose and mentality of "protecting" or isolating the sub-forum from humorous or not 100% serious threads (Like the death of fictional characters like Commander Boreale for example) with the aim of trying to make it into a respected memorial on the internet but so far all it has done is called into question the necessity of this sub-forum, advertise how out of place it is on a gaming forum it is and set in motion a crowd of people calling for its removal.

It's tragically ironic in a sense.

Yea this thread should really not exist. In the most humble and respectful way possible i say this... This is a forum created for discussion based on a game. Do not misunderstand, it is your own option to mourn the people that have passed in your life but if you are going to put it in a public forum, traversed by a multicultural and global community do not expect for everyone to have the same feelings and thoughts as you. I for one would rather mourn any dead with my friends and family, not with the internet.

...but then again i chose to be immortally clad in iron and live a life of eternal march and destrcution..so what do i know really..

As promised, I've added a set of rules and guidelines for this sub-forum!

As a result, I'm closing this thread since the official rules should now prevent off-topic messages in here.

Thanks to everyone who have contributed positively so far, and who have shown their support and compassion to those who have expressed their loss to the EC community!
