Personally I assume there's some sort of wormhole that opened in the planetary core. But the easy answer is because the need for broad fan appeal. Imagine the raeg and dip in sales if the first 40k MMO type game either, only let you play as, say, Ultramarines again, or, only included a managery of successor chapters that most people have never heard of or care about.
You do realize it's very bloody common in 40k for a buttload of chapters to pile on a single planet? Armageddon IIRC has seen over eighty chapters participating in combat on the same planet.
While I disagree that everyone should be deathwatch, it seems bizarre to me that out of the hundreds of chapters only 5 first foundings responded, is this a horus heresy game?
No shit. So why no other chapters? The imperium is this huge wide expanse, yet 5 first founding are the only ones who can respond?
Because shoving everything within the small timespace they have to work with would make this game drag along till 2018? If you followed through the devs talks, they want every subfaction to have special attributes, weapons, accessories and more. Adding even more to that pile to have unique things like that would stretch this development even further.
I understand that and was approaching it a lot more from a lore wise angle as that seemed to me what this thread seemed to be about. Hence 5 first foundings appearing seems a bit weird.
Well on the lore end, as Joram said, we cannot really judge. Ivan is being too secretive about the whole thing. Matter of fact compared to the rest of the dev team and their openness he should be tried for heresy agains the bEmperor and his Angels of Transparency.
I don't think it's fair to say we can't judge. The game is based of 40k as a background. Therefore any sort of story which suggests that the only chapters that could respond are first founding, will potentially seem very weak or far fetched.
