Three things to make your matches infinitely better: 1) Work together. Seriously. Squad Leaders give passive bonuses to their squad as long as they are nearby, and it's a noticeable help. 2) Hold Q to issue commands!! It's a lot faster than typing for most, and since you can't easily get out of the chatbox in-game anyways, I find it to be the best option for in-squad communication. This is mostly for Squad Leaders, but the other members of the squad can suggest orders as well with this command. 3) Finally, check your fire. Especially with Heavy/Storm bolters and charged plasma shots. If you're firing into a melee, don't just spray and pray. Pick your shots, let loose the occasional small burst maybe. Just because you have a big gun doesn't mean you can throw accuracy to the wind when firing around teammates. EDIT: Bonus tip! For those that don't know, tapping Q instead of holding it will spot enemies near your crosshair. As long as you can maintain Line of Sight on them, they will be marked on the map for the rest of your team, not just your squad. This is especially useful for vehicles if you don't have any anti-vehicle equipment yourself.
Thanks for the tip about spotting, I haven't got it to work yet but will try again. The default controls say it's Q but that only ever sets way points.
Spotting can be a bit unreliable, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Can insta spot a marine 100m away but sometimes i can't spot a rhino in my face.
I think another tip I could give to newer players, especially LSM since they have a population explosion since the game was on sale/holidays: Don't try to fit through the same doorway/hallway when focusing a point. People will throw grenades, heavies, and other AoE weapons at you. Makes it easier for defenders to group you and focus you as a whole. Assualt a point from each entrance, not just one. Apothecaries, when someone is down and being focus, healing them over and over again isn't helping. Let people crawl to you, and if they die doing so, they were probably being too focused to help to begin with. Apothecaries, focus your Devastators. They are a very strong contribution to the LSM war-machine, don't hesitate to focus them when defending or assaulting key locations. Lastly, always make sure to have a wider variety of classes in squads. If you have multiple different weapons in a squad you can cover different situations like Vehicles, Zergs, or Flying units.
So...you're saying that having a team that is 90% powerfist JPA is NOT okay? ooooooh that is going to go over some of their heads.
Also worth noting, especially for the new player who are thus still chasing XP, that if someone kills something you spotted, you get 30XP for infantry and 180XP for vehicles (those are the numbers I recall anyways).
Valrak, you most definitely should talk to Nathan and make it so this vid is a forced cinematic that will play each time you select LSM character below rank 5
