Of course some of this kind too (look at the post by ShadowMage). There are always people who do not have a clue and write reviews like those. But the game still has its problems with various parts of the basics and nearly none of the outstanding things that are yet to come. Right now it is a mediocre shooter that lacks most of those things that were announced to be the special bits of the game.
You dont have to tell me about legal stuff, Im a law student. Every contract has a termination clause written into it where generally you just need to have a legitimate reason and then give some length of notice that you are terminating the contract. You can also claim they repudiated the contract first so its not termination but that will cause a law suit most likely. Termination is the easier and cheaper way
I think what might be helpful is to have as complete a list as possible as to what will be part of the game at official release, essentially the release notes. I don't mean that infographic! That is advertising, and I don't think it is of any real use to those us of who have been playing this game for some time. Also, somewhat casually mentioning what features we will see in the weekly stream, a forum post or newsletter is not helpful either. I know that features can change up to the day of the actual release and having something super solid can increase frustrations if features cannot be met, but having a better, solid outline of what we can expect might help a bit with the anxiety. I think that it is also worth saying that many of us are seeing how the sausage is getting made, something we don't always witness with game studios. Even with participation in early access, alphas and betas, I think bE has presented a level of transparency that we don't often see in the development process. The result is bearing witness to things that happen more often that not in game development: game features that are dropped or delayed, design aspects that have changed or been downgraded and so forth. None of what we've seen is all that unusual. It doesn't change the disappointment that occurs, but it remains something that we should be aware of. There are things that bE could have done better in regards to getting in front of certain aspects of the game that changed or were delayed, and really hammering them in to help counter expectations IMO, but overall I want to continue to give bE my trust that they will do their job. I made an investment in this game like many of you, and like one of my favorite legions, I'm playing the long game. With the release of EC, they will really need to make a strong first impression, but it will be what they continue to do afterwards that will shape the game.
One also wonders what happened to screening the reserved names the Founders took through the Founders Sheet, thats something that could be put on the backburner if we werent launching next month, now it seems like it shouldnt be put aside, lest you end up having people taking other peoples names on launch day. Also the items that were supposed to be replacements for the Banners/Emblems removed from the Founders packs are still nowhere in sight. Whats the status on those?
@Oveur or @BrentEllison can you please respond to Djemo's post here? Or to me? Please just be honest, no marketing firewall - with all of the weapons/wargear/classes/heroes/elites/maps/mods/advancements that you say are going to be in at launch, are you certain that it will not be an unbalanced calamity? Also, what of reserved founder names? Founder pack banner/emblem replacements, and pioneer pack items?
legal battle? hell no. as a child of the modern age i respect diversity and cultural heritage. for Oveur this unfortunately means a 'ding', to settle this. Axes or longswords? First blood or to the death? edit:removed the wikilink as it didnt seem to mention the trial by combat aspect
Hola everyone, Catching up on feedback. You're absolutely right, I would love more time and money, like all game developers in the world, ever. I would love not having any commitments to various partners and whatnot but we do. I would love to change many of them but I can't. Some were before my time, some after. Some above my paygrade, some not. So while it might look like it's me being intentionally evil with you because I want to hurt you or run away with your money, these decisions by all parties aren't taken lightly and right now, this is the route we believe in is the most likely for success based on all circumstance, unless something changes. It might not be clear but between launching and not having a runway after we launch (money for development, servers etc.) and launching and having money for development servers etc. I'd rather choose the latter. Risky? Yeah, even deciding to do this project in the first place was highly risky and when I came in I even had my doubts we could ever pull off half of the promises within a reasonable amount of time and money but we changed early to reach a game we believe will be solid as a foundation to expand upon. So of course I believe. Otherwise I would have left. I choose to be here, not out of necessity or money that's for sure, I do it because I love Warhammer, I have nothing to prove as the games I've worked before are easily approaching a billion dollars and I care deeply about us as a team and will do everything in my power to make sure we're best positioned for the future with food on our tables while fulfilling yours and our fantasies.
