Time to Kill in Eternal Crusade - Nothing short of infuriating

COD time to kill is objectively and factually much, much, much lower than Eternal Crusade. COD TTK is near instant, whereas in EC you have time to roll away, find cover, or close the distance and melee(Unless you're wandering around in the open in which case you deserve to die). This is COD TTK.

It takes several seconds of every single shot hitting in EC to kill someone. The only weapons that insta kill are charged plasma, grenades, and a power axe attack to the spine.

The only way to get that feel of being super powered is:

    1. Be fighting others less powerful than you AKA shooting ducks in a barrel

      or

    2. Be a very good player(the outliers)
Otherwise you'll feel like your playing equals which means quick death. Everything in the Warhammer 40K world offers you a quick death but Imperial Guardsmen.

I'm not opposed to testing out higher TTK, but really, how many times do I have to shoot you to kill you? It's already a lot as it is. When I'm shooting at a smart opponent it can be quite difficult to kill them as they take advantage of cover, let their shield recharge, or heal themselves. I have had epic melee duels last 20-30 seconds where we're clanging, dodging, defense bashing, and hacking the shit out of each other.

Reducing melee damage would make melee useless, theres no way I would slug it out while exposing myself to his friends bolter fire, I would just stay at range.

To be honest I'm not happy at all that it will most likely go up with the addition of accessories,

Concur that players will have the option to increase TTK, but I am also sure that there will be opportunities to increase damage as well if I am understanding the loot and progression system. A player like me that wants to tank up will prioritize armor, HPs, shields, ect. However, players that are happy being squishy and living on the Thin Red Line between life and death can forego the armor and instead keep buffing damage. In fact, those sort of glass cannon folks will be REQUIRED in order to keep pace with opponents going for tank builds. Obviously, there will be a spectrum of tankiness vs damage in between, and folks will have to find a build that fits their play style and comfort level..

I do not concur that being super good can lead to feeling super powerful, but that is based on personal preference. No matter how good I get, if I am one shot away from dying, that will always keep the ego in check, and the tension up. I was a great sniper in C&C Renegade, but I never felt super powered because there was also another sniper out there hunting.

Perhaps they should read other race's books to see how fast their beloved SM tend to die.

    I know right?

Sure, Space Marines are superhuman war machines designed to engage and destroy the enemies of man.

After ten thousand years of a process of elimination, guess who the remaining enemies of man are?

The ones that can deal with space marines.
  5. Well also just the side characters in SM. The nameless squadies, the enemy chaos marines the hero kills in less than a heartbeat, or perhaps the named minor character that dies when the plot demands it. Something I've mentioned before is we have the principal of "everybody wins" going on here, everyone is the hero of their own story, so nobody is. Actually, there are already heroes of this story. Their names are Abaddon the Despoiler, Jain Zar and their like, they're the heroes, even the best of us are supporting characters.

By I digress, since we're all the deadliest warriors in the galaxy, it's only logical that we must use tactics lest we butcher eachother. The TTK is fine, survivability upgrades will come eventually.

And if you really want to kill an ork go kill skarblitz. I don't think too many orks will care if you do.

Btw this has nothing to do with OT. I just hate the ork warboss they created.
  7. Alright guys, I have a suggestion for all of you advocating for longer TTK. Ask the devs to do so, or conduct an experiment yourself, by having one player stand still as the other one kills him with the following weapons:
Chainsword, Chainaxe, Power sword, power axe, power maul, power fist, power nathan'schesthair, bolter, stalker bolter, plasma gun and storm bolter. Count every single hit and shot made and report here. The best you could do is somehow get the devs to do so in one of their streams as that would be controlled environment.
  8. TTK will be increasing, no doubt about that. When you add in wargear and health boosting items/loadouts thatll increase TTK. Then if your sticking around your squad leader thats a 15-20% health boost on top of that. Wait till Elites and Hero units are in, then your base Health will be even higher.

By the end of this year you'll probably be complaining about how you can unload 2 full clips of bolter rounds into someone and they still wont go down.

If you play with regular teammates, youll find that TTK is currently really long when you have a proper Apothecary/Sorcerer with you. I run out of bolter/heavy bolter ammo all the time because I survive for what seems 5-10 minutes before dying. Having the support of teammates that watch your back and a healer REALLY makes a difference.

Currently there are weapons that basically 1 hit kill you. Grenades 1 hit kill in a very large area, Plasma cannon 1 hit kills for a very large area, multi melta will fry you in less than a second. If you get hit in melee (especially in the back your dead in 1-3 hits).

Make no mistake though, these weapons arent balanced properly, and they are being used in a system that currently has no wargear/powerups/upgrades. In the meantime, I'd suggest trying to survive a fight as long as possible rather than take down as many opponents as quickly as possible.

Ive killed more opponents being careful and taking up smart positions rather than charging into combat. Taking cover on a regular basis and not trying to defeat every enemy I come across. Sometimes you gotta rely on allies and the random players support to live longer.

I had no idea the elites/heros would have aura buffs. When did they say that? Cause yeah wow with a buff that big you COULD play without cover and be super balls to the wall.
  10. Generally as mechanics are improved and performance gets better, TTK will naturally go higher (hopefully) if it doesn't than hp can simply be raised.

I dunno how the devs are scaling hp, damage or whatever stats there are, but I'm hoping they're going for a more solid numbers route of 5-10s-100s etc etc, to make balancing a bit simpler.

From a gameplay standpoint, I wouldn't mind if HP was just increased for the hell of it. I like games with longer TTK, makes fights better.

People keep saying that accessories will increase TTK, wouldn't that go against the whole horizontal progression idea? Having players just get more hp and be harder to kill would be pretty bad for new players.
