I wasnt accusing anyone specifically and sorry if you felt that, there are multiple threads like this out there and they end badly. I agree there is no way the top ranked council slots can be chosen so soon, but i think they can be chosen pre release as that level is management pure and simple, and i would hope nothing to do with battlefield prowess. So a strong community leader who is popular, calm and a good communicator would get my vote. As for chapter master ranks, you cannot use tabletop, this one ranks higher, it doesn't work. A chapter specific title yes but nothing else, and expect multiple chapters of the same if the game is as successful as it has the potential to be.
I see little to no sense in promoting a war council at a time when there is not even an early alpha of the game. The War Council should, first and foremost, be manned by players who are competent, players who actually know what they are doing - and it is rather hard to argue in the favor of one player or another when you don't even know which specific qualities said player would need for a position in the War Council. Of course, these positions could be given out according to the popularity of the person on the forum, but if we do that, you can bet your behind on some YouTube LPer getting wind of this project, summoning his legions of drooling fanboys and forcing him- or herself into the council even though the LPer in question very likely has positively no idea of what to do. Thus, any discussion of the War Council position on this level seems to me (and I don't want to personally insult anyone in this thread) like a thin-veiled yet very frantical attempt to snatch a position on said council for the sole sake of fullfilling one's manchildish dream of being in charge. EDIT: Why not simply let the Devs be the first War Council? If they don't understand the game mechanics, we might as well call it a day.
Runing for President of the chaos master race Araghast and Vice president Eliphas for chaos Leadership! 2016! Democracy is pretty much the best method so far, sure its a popularity contest but still its a nice way of doing it. However i do believe one most climb the ladder so to speak, be a top notch quality man a true champion amongst all others which shows in activity, ranks, achievement's, history of pve and pvp, and so on and so forth.
Without all the angst, this is close to what I was getting at. As far as being in charge, no way I can do it, but I would like to throw my support behind someone I think will do a good job for my faction, I just don't know anyone well enough at this point to point at. Starting off I agree with your last statement. However, how bogged down are they going to get when they log in to lead a battle and get swamped with: My power armor looks like yucky! fix it, why cant I blow up an entire city, when is XYZ going to be fixed? etc etc. You all know whenever a dev pokes his head into any game, people fire for effect with the either brown nosing or questions, or both. Its going to happen. So while I like your idea, it may result in Dev burn out. I don't have a better solution, or idea for a solution at this point, sadly.
That is good. I have found that military leadership, in the gaming world does not go far on it's own. Outside ARMA and project reality, it can back fire to biblical proportions. There are people out ther ethat enjoy the pseudo military stuff, and there are people that hate it. In my experience the people that can display the most charisma tend to attract (I know duh right?) the best initial numbers, but the people that are successful tend to maintain a larger more loyal fan (Read: returning players that will follow them, and do what is asked of them) base. What I have heard more often than not is: yeah I like squadding/platooning/having him (speaking about successful leaders in general, not myself) lead ops because he/she gets stuff done. You have to play a role, you have to be winning, and you have to figure out how to make your small unit leaders WANT to accomplish your goals with their game time. And if you aren't winning, they aren't going to follow for long. So, I still believe you can describe what the council SHOULD look like, but wait before you start slapping names in there, because in 2 years, this place is going to look a lot different.
Those who will who are adept at governing, will eventually be selected to govern, I see no point in discussing it until the system is in place to see how it works.
I do not know why you guys talk about ranks and names so much when this is ment to be a place in which the community tries to avoid unhappy game experience for itself, everybody should have the right to say something to improve the fun for everyone...
Considering the very first War Council would be somewhere in the Beta or maaaaybe even in the Alpha, I think the playerbase wouldn't be quite as . . . special . . . as it will be after launch. So essentially the Devs would form the first War Council and would then give the reins to whom they consider the most competent as soon as possible. Said people would then serve as Councillors during the Beta and could potentially carry over to post-launch before new council ellections are held and a wave of new F2Pers vote Pewdiepie into office as the Spiritual Liege of the Space Marines. I think I messed up somewhere.
Thanks, it was fun while it lasted, disunity came when people who were friends of owners got posistions of power they couldn't handle and it ruined it for everyone. Suitable quote might of been no combat plan survives contact with the enemy
As was previously said, it's impossible to come up with a working council before we even hit CB. You can't judge whether or not someone will be effective until they actually do the job. They can be as friendly, mature and active as they want but they have to prove themselves before people will want to give them that role.
