Larese listened to the briefing on his com, the plan sounded like it would work, but hearing the farseers premonition anything was possible. Much seemed to rest on his shoulders. He was slightly anxious about having to go solo, but he must do his part for the warhost. Alot of the plan also rested with the wraith soldiers, on the way he filled the wraith lord in: "We of craftworld Mymera have come to find the lance of moonlight and retrive it. The autarchs plan is for me to awaken any wraiths I can for a distraction attack on a mon'keigh city a few miles away. If we can not awaken them then we merely guard the transport of soul stones and the gate."
"You can attempt, as we do not know about the status of the other constructs, Seer. But we awoke as the Warhost called... We have answered the call, War shall come, War shall be received, War shall be fought. For that, we have answered the call." The Wraith Lord and the Guards seemed to insist on war towards the Spiritseer.
Larese was troubled by the adamant insistence of war by the wraiths. He kept his mind calm though and whispered into his com, even though the wraiths couldn't hear mortal speech anyway. "Autarch, I'm sorry to interupt, but I'm no longer sure if the wraiths awoke due purely to our arrival. They said they awoke: "because the warhost called." They insist that war will be fought here, be wary and may fortune favor you."
Just as they left the cavern, Sel was contacted by the Spiritseer, "Autarch, I'm sorry to interupt, but I'm no longer sure if the wraiths awoke due purely to our arrival. They said they awoke: 'because the warhost called.'" Sel returned, "We certainly did not call them, so there must be something more to this. For now, keep them as they are, inquire as you can, but continue to defend as the evacuation of the Circuit and our only means of escape take precedence. It is imperative that the gate is held." The Mymearan Warhost, led by its pathfinders, marched from the desolate caverns after a several minutes long walk through the subterranean city. They emerged from the tunnels into a thick deciduous forest. Terraforming a maiden world is a long, energy-intensive process, and it was clear from cursory ecological analysis that the terraforming process was based in this region, as without any forthcoming water supply, what would otherwise be a open grassland or plain was a thicketed, overgrown forest. This was ideal, as the approach to the capitol was covered from the sky the entire way, and the light-footed Eldar could pass through the dense cover unhindered. In their vanity, the humans had cut a swath through the forest, and had settled their capitol into the idyllic region, using its natural beauty as a station for commerce. This had worked well for its purpose until recent, and now the indefensible nature of the capitol had become self-evident. It was in a wide, partial basin, exposed to long-range artillery, and the Imperial Guard had taken great pains to beat back the forest from the city outskirts to create open fields of fire forward of their lines. Unfortunately for them, they had not had enough time to clear out the entire perimeter yet, and the northwest still had trees within 100 meters of the gun line. To counteract enemy air forces and anti-tank weaponry from the high-ground, they had set their tanks in hull-down earthworks. Selhiat carried little concern for this, as few tank commanders could hope to protect their armor from the airborne Shadow Spectres. Moving through the forest towards the north-north-west, Selhiat intended to use both the slight slope gained from the basin to bolster their charge, and the still standing trees to protect their approach and covering fire. After several hours of marching, they swung about towards the south-east, now barreling towards the defenses. They crested the top of the basin, and could feel the slight declination as they approached the now visible capitol. The trees did well to prevent the warhost from being silhouetted against the sky, and as if by design, the Eldar reached the outer defenses without incident. The pathfinders brought the warhost to the edge of the forest, where they lay quietly in wait, moving to their positionin preparation of the attack. The Autarch paid careful attention to positioning each shrine carefully. "Seers, Pyrus, Tymus, Maiev, and Korlynth, on me at the center. Siel, your shrine towards the southern flank here, Moon Eclipse shrine to the opposite northern flank there. Obvienne, go with Siel, stopping at the midpoint to our center. Brillyen, do the same with Simius' shrine. Fadren, move to the center behind our line and ready your sights. Arkash, I need the Spiders monitoring either flank for trouble and ready to port into the breach, so remain with the Reapers and keep an eye on things, you're on overwatch until the signal. We must act as one being. As one entity. Play your part exactly and we shall not fail." "Everyone to their positions. Go," Sel stated sternly and directly. Sel tried to avoid being overly sentimental towards these forms of operations, but he couldn't help but give words of encouragement and clarity. As the various shrines took their stations, he contacted each one individually. "Siel. Your shrine is tasked with ascertaining the southern flank's safety. You must understand that the ordnance batteries on this flank are of great concern. There are also three, hull-down, so-called 'Leman Russes' settled into these defenses that could remove our warhost with one well-placed shell. Your team's ability to remove their combat effectiveness is key to our survival. I know you can do this. You know you can do this. Make it happen." "Simius. Your shrine must remove the anti-infantry gun emplacements scattered throughout the structure. You will destroy the enemies' ability to cut us down on the charge, and you know from experience how much ammunition the Imperium can put into the air unless you stop them first. Do what you do best and target those guns. Don't let them get a chance to think." "Fadren. The team will not survive their charge without your shrine's keen aim. Your targets are the Guardsmen manning their guns. You must prevent them from ever considering raising their heads from cover. Should they think twice about such, you'll be there to remind them the error of their ways. It's what you do best. I expect the death that only a Reaper can deliver. Don't let me down." "Pyrus. Yours is a task not commonly seen by the Fire Dragons but more critical today than I can describe. The path of our charge is laden with landmines, razor wire and all manner of other brutal obstacles the savage humans could conceive. You task is to assure that such obstacles are not fit to deserve their name. If the Dragons cannot clear the path, then our charge will fall on the enemy's readied pikes. Stay to your task and do not distract from it until we reach their bunkers. Then your task is to breach their walls and spread the flames that Fuegan dreams of. The mon-keigh need burn." "Tymus. The Dire Avengers are well-reputed at removing infantry. Those defenses are infested with them. As the Dragons breach and the melee shrines charge, your task is to assure that the enemy has no chance to defend themselves. Target their troops as you breach and as the Banshees and Scorpions find targets, you must make certain that the many other Guardsmen about this battlezone do not have a chance to fire upon your kin. Yours is a critical task. Live up to Asurmen's expectations." "Korlynth. The Scorpions will be the first in the door. The Fire Dragons will lead the charge to clear the way, but once the heat reaches flesh, your task takes hold, and you must target to kill. Clear guns, clear emplacements, remove them from the walls and assure that the Guardsmen cannot return fire on the shrines that covered your approach. You are taking point once the door is open. You know what awaits you. Sting as only a scorpion knows how." "Maiev. Once the Dragons have cleared the way and the Scorpions breached, you will follow and the task of the Banshees is one they are all too familiar with. You must sow terror and dissent in their ranks. You must alert them that death is upon them. Yours is a terror mission. Kill freely, cover the other shrines and support the Scorpions should they need it, but otherwise assure that the Guardsmen cannot hear their commissars' threats above your wails. I know you will not disappoint." "Pathfinders. Target the officers. Target the commissars. Target gun operators. Do not let them organize. Your skills with the long rifle precede you. Prove them correct." "Ilidarian, Paramev, Yulieth (and Bulrin?). If things go as they should, you should not need to fight. Things never go as they should. As the charge lets loose, you must cover their advance with the psychic potency that brought you here. Cover them. Cloak them. Guide them. Where the enemies appear weak, reveal them. Without you, the sheer weight of fire from the enemy will almost assuredly kill us. We need you. Do not let us down." "Arkash. You will protect the Reapers and Spectres as we charge and wait for my signal to attack. This role may seem underwhelming, but do not be mistaken. If things go perfectly then we should tear straight through their lines. Things never go perfectly. Once the primary attack hits, the front of the charge will be blunted by the mass of guardsmen. They will slow us and the charge will lose its weight. You must assure that we do not lose momentum. If our attack grinds to a halt, we are finished. Once the signal is given, you must port in and prevent the enemy from forming any appreciable defense. You are what must stop us from losing momentum or we will never make it deep enough into the city to enter the catacombs. Your task is paramount. I'm counting on you." Satisfied that he had informed his troops well, Selhiat scanned the treeline. Everyone was in position. He checked his datapad. This planet was one-eighth into its day cycle. Right on time. "Reapers, Spectres and Pathfinders; settle your sights. Warhost; Ready!" The various warriors stood prepared for a sprint. The Eldar's long legs stretched behind them, ready to stride, thermoplastic quietly stretching as their muscles primed for the burst of movement. "CHARGE!"
The Dark Reapers let loose in perfect synchronization with each other as their Reaper Launchers fired. Each of Fadren's pupils took a portion of the line to cover with intensive suppression fire that downed scores of clueless Mon'keigh in the opening storm. Ereth and Banin overlapped their fire on the same sector where Pyrus and the Fire Dragons would advance forward to ensure they had maximum protection. Fadren himself angled his Tempest Launcher upwards and fired indirectly, letting his initial shots fall down amongst the trenches with anti-personel rounds that detonated in clouds of needles that tore through flak vest with contemptuous ease. His second salvo landed further back in a wide spray meant to disrupt and wreak havoc amongst their reserves that would no doubt be mobilizing to reinforce the front. He settled into an easy pace of sweeping his fire over those areas of the line that his reapers weren't currently targeting while occasionally alternating to bombard those behind the front lines and make sure the clumsy humans were kept on the back foot, he knew his job and he knew how to do it very well.
''Sithin, Hwaith and I will guard the left. Elirian, take Mochain, guard the right. We have been tasked with ensuring our brethren remain alive and, until such time as I give orders otherwise, that is what we shall do,'' Arkash said. Yes, lest the lesser warriors die before ever doing anything useful. ''Yes, Exarch,'' Elirian nodded, taking Mochain with his as they moved to guard the right flank of the Reaper and Spectre's formation, their death spinners held at the ready, their senses at fullest alert as they advanced. Sithin and Hwaith followed Arkash as the Exarch moved to protect the left side, his sights set out in to the distance, his eyes straining to scan every facet of the landscape, their gaze carving between each and every one of the trees, he knew that the enemy may be lurking out there. Yet he felt a slight ease, the Mon'keigh are many things, but subtle they are not. If there was to be a counter attack, he would likely hear it long before he could even see it, and kill it before they ever saw him. Together they would keep the Reapers and Spectres alive long enough for them to deliver their payload in to the enemy. Should the plan stall, or the charge fail, then they were to jump in and do what they do best. If? This plan is destined to fail. Perhaps. Yes, but if it does then the task falls to us to complete. ''Be ready, Spiders. If we given the signal to jump in, you must all be ready,'' Arkash ordered. ''If, Exarch?'' Hwaith asked with a tinge of arrogance.. ''When.''
IMPORTANT OOC: losses will be TT kinda style handled. I.E. I will describe that banshees will die, in bigger scale battles (like it's gonna happen at first) the exarchs / leaders can decide WHO exactly falls (in case you named your shrine ppl ) though in smaller battles like where it's obvious WHO got killed, then of course THAT particular person dies. EDIT: Proceed with the fight as desired, Nate and Mechaius are quite talented in that.... I will simply intervene with other.... nice things
Larese started the rituals to activate more wraith constructs. In the mean time the rest of the soul stones were being loaded into containers and transported through the webway. He sent the wraith lord and a wraith guard back to the gate to make sure there was something capable of defending it should the need arise.
Everything went well... at first... But the Spiritseer started to notice some kind of barrier on the Wraith Constructs and the Stones from the Infinity Circuit started to communicate with Larese. "No... The Warhost calls for war.... we must rise.... We must rise...." The dead kept saying, but yet the Wraith Constructs which had some already a stone infused but were deactivated kept the seer from activating them. As if someone sealed them so nobody ever would activate them again.
This was strange, he had never seen this before, nor heard of it. He extended his mind over to the wraith lord at the gate: "How close did the sorcerer get to the gate? Did he get to the wraiths before you awoke? Where is his corpse?"
