Thoughts on the heavy bolter

Don't bring PS2 LMG to this debate, the LMGs in that game are loads of garbage and shit that can't even hit someone properly. You want to suppress someone in PS2? Get a freaking battle rifle or sniper rifle, if a Heavy Assault tries to suppress you with LMG, shoot the bastard in the face.

TF2? What does that have anything to do with EC? You hold the door with an engineer in that game to.

Suppression visual effect (same with many other current visual effects) may need to be tuned down, but the mechanic itself works. The point of a LMG or MG is that it suppresses you without even needing to hit you. Heavy bolter is doing just that, you don't even need to hit someone to neutralize him, you just need to shoot at him.

Unless of course its an assault marine who just runs through your heavy bolter rounds like he's batfink and one shots you with his melee attack.

  3. I understand your frustration, Krasus. But please remember, the Assault Marine (Jump pack marine) IS supposed to be the natural counter for a devastator. They are your worst fear when you are playing, so yes, you should be bitter about them. If the JP marine wasn't around, devastators would rule the game as no one would be able to get up to them in time. In an organized game, devastators should be supported by other classes (Apothecaries, Sorcerers) who are healing them and ready to counter melee attackers, remember, this is meant to be a squad based, team game (though that isn't realized yet). I play devastator as well, and I know how impossible it is to 1v1 an assault marine who gets the drop on me. Just know that this is how it's intended to be.

And once again. There should never be a 'natural counter' in any game. When you turn pvp in to rock paper scissors it fails. There has never been a pvp game that embraces rock paper scissors that hasnt failed.
Rock Paper Scissors, Stun Locks, Pay to win, Level based advantages. All = epic fail.
  5. Well, I don't think assault marines were created JUST to counter devastators. They are just opposite sides of the spectrum, extreme range damage/no mobility unit vs extreme close combat/mobility unit. Because of this, people use them to counter devs. Remember also that these units are currently incomplete. Devastators will be getting access to accessories, some of which i'm sure will boost their close combat abilities. But yes, there are always counters to anything in these games, no one ever gets to just, be on top. Even the "mighty" Mark of Nurgle ground assault is easily countered with plasma guns. It's just something you'll need to accept and learn to be wary of. If assault marines are giving you such a terrible time, look for indoor choke points to use your guns so they can't fly over you and land on your head. There are ways to avoid them.

I liked the ability in 40k Space Marine where you could do a stomping action that would stun nearby enemies for a short period of time. I think they should add it in my honest opinion.

  7. Something like this would b
    Work good for Pve
But I do t think that a marine cares when someone angry stomps the ground. ..

I tried playing devastator/havoc (heavy bolter) with my battle squad. It's just a great loadout. I like to supress anyone coming on a point so that my teammates can flank them. I like being the cornerstone of a well coordinate defensive or offensive action. I'm also easily killed by a skilled assault but I find it's fair. I can't be a god on the battlefield with no option to be "countered" (I don't talk about RPS but the position where you can be are not all dead ends so that you see everything). Thus said I'm not just a victim for the assault. If I see them coming, the most part of the time, a jump back followed by a kick and some bullets will do the job :D

Right, except in SM devestators could absolutely rock assaults if they didn't suck. In this game, the skillcap is dreadfully low, and assaults don't have to try and be sneaky or flank to survive, they can just smash into you. HB's could reliably down assaults AS THEY WERE DROPPING ON TO YOU in SM, because they were just that much higher DPS. Assaults would still 2-3 hit you, but you had more than a shot if you could aim.

Heavy Bolter should deal more damage, other then that I find it fine and fun to play with.
Only its damage on players is underwhelming(though bashing assault and unloading bolt barrage on its face is satisfying as hell).
