Pilot -cough cough- Unless you want to fly with a person who already crashed the last bird he was in...
Name: Mako Drachma Gender: Male Age: 24 Class : Flight marshal ( Navy rank similair to an ace but usually put on highly difficult missions or put in charge of squadrons ) ... Weapons : Heavy Stub pistol , Combat knife Armor : Navy Pilot suit ( stronger stuff than flak armor and enviormentally sealed allowing for temporary void survival ) Special Equipment: ( unsure if allowed to have this but going for it obviously limited situationally ) Valkyrie class gunship armed with Lascanon, 2 hell strike missles , and 2 door mounted heavy bolters. Appearance wise the Gunship is somewhat personalized with the cockpit and underslung las-cannon being part of what appears to be a toothy maw design on the front and along the right side of the cocpit a large number of white Xs and after every 5 an Aquila is placed in place of an X. Helmet has installed commbead , 8 reloads of Stub ammo ... Appearance: The Young man has a youthful unscared face usually bright smile. Mako has Light hair and warm light brown eyes. The man stands at an unassuming 5'7/1.7m . The Man': eyes seem to hise something beneath the friendly mask. Personality: a chordial and Friendly young man Mako is usually quick with a joke and having a helpful demeanor under most circumstances and is usualy quite laid back and charismatic , rarely displaying any displeasure or anger. The Pilot's attitude takes a severe turn when placed a combat situation in which case he is Zealous and furious in his efforts to take down the foe and is either spouting obscenties at his foe or reciting a prayer. Prior history: a Void born onboard a arms ship Mako never had claim to a homeworld or any real heritage other than that of an Imperial Citizen. Mako's early life was quite uneventful just the simply life of a child of ratings, helping with various duties around the ship and generally endearing himself to most people with his childish high hopes. The Young mans Dreams would eventually be realized when he joined the Imperial Navy as soon as he was old enough. He worked his way up the ranks of the navy the captain of the ship he had been born on helping with a connection or two Mako eventually became a pilot of a valkyrie class gunship which has nicknamed "The Little Jack" as a recognition to the captain who had helped him get to where he was. Mako Himself proved an excellent pilot and quickly leaped his way to flight marshall through merit alone Recruitment: the Recruitment of Mako was in response to the Inquisitors request of a Pilot and the Inquisitors connections finding the best pilot the sector admiralty had to offer . Mako Darchma had flown over 700 successful combat missions and has 58 confirmed kills though countless more unconfirmed as squadron leaders often find it difficult to determine who or what the burning husks of metal that were once enemy aircraft. Though a skilled fighter Pilot Mako has shown high success rates on drop missions as well. I hope this is all to your liking and i will change anything deemed unsuitable
If he's a pilot, the chance of using a las based weapon is very low. Almost all Naval arms are hard round based because their calibers are designed to not destroy or severely damage the interior of a vessel. If you use a laser based weapon, there's a chance you could severely cripple something or you know...melt a hole through the window and cause a breach.
The Imperial Navy uses shotguns and low caliber autoguns with extremely high rates of fire and compact forms because shotguns with solid slugs are accurate, have the muzzle velocity to shred organic targets but with the right calibers, will barely dent the interior of the ships hulls and not weaken or penetrate the glass separating parts of the ships interior from the void. Because las weaponry, despite having an energy modifier on it seen on most patterns, is still a thermal weapon, it is capable on most settings of melting through eventually. Remember that a lasers heat output is dictated by a few things: color, intensity, duration, and distance. It's light and travels at the speed of light but follows the energy output of the color spectrum as has been studied IRL. For instance, red lasers have one of the lowest energy wave lengths whereas blue has one of the highest. In theory based off lore, a lasgun on highest settings is powerful enough to melt through ceramite at point blank range with a single overcharged shot. Now imagine a couple dozen troopers doing that a few hundred times in under a minute down a hallway, the chance of those hitting the same area and melting a hole is relatively high thus the use of hard rounds makes more sense. We already know the muzzle velocity and kinetic energy of them and through proper use of chokes and muzzle brakes, amplify or weaken the effect to make it safer for the ship and still deadly for any potential enemies.
Not to mention if I remember, 40k laser weaponry basically causes an explosion (albeit small one, for lasguns) upon impact - which is why they're not the best on actual armoured targets, like a Space Marine. Well - explosive stuff, definitely would cause collateral damage, and the heat from it would probly weaken the surrounding area, even if only slightly. Now as said, if you up that to dozens of lasbolts all at once in the general area, even reinforced glass would probably crack - reinforced ceramite would probably take a good beating, and a single lasgun giving two or three hits wouldn't do much. But a boarding crew wouldn't settle for "two or three" shots at a target from a single person. Also, they do use las weaponry if I remember - albeit on the super-duper-large scale, as lance weapons which would be done to rend right through the armoured hull of the ship in question. The only problem with using auto-weaponry, is, well.. Lasguns are shitty enough, relative to the setting - and they're still reliably stopped by flak armour. And it's lore-wise, shown that a lasgun is still a step above auto weapons: which'd make meeting any MODERATELY armoured resistance a terror.
AP Ammo defeats the purpose of using the shotgun in the first place, itd still cause hull damage but the Navy shotgun is on par with guard shotguns which are as strong as lasguns ( according to tabletop at least ) so it probably a low gauge , maybe around 4 or 5 to compete with a lasgun rather than AP though im not sure if 40k even uses gauge
