I know that these forums must be dumb to read (they are) but the forums are something , actually helping the devs is something else , dont worry now the right players are helping the devs each time they can , we left the wrong people giving advices to devs for too long
I mean, I don't know where you get the idea that there are gangs or ranged and melee communities, you have players who prefer those roles but there's no one on this forum bar a few individuals I often have verbal spats with that actively push balance for one mechanic at the cost of another. The reason why you have people arguing from the perspective of one faction or one class and not saying anything about the others is because they either do not play the faction or do not know enough about it to argue, they aren't wasting the time of forum-goers by making another shitpost that has obvious flaws or mistakes in it, which is absolutely fine. You shouldn't be trying to pass off inexperienced rambling as detailed balance feedback simply because it provides nothing, what you say could essentially be 100% false or anecdotal, rendering your post of zero value to anyone. As for the community, it's already a thing. People actively speak and communicate their ideas between each other on Discord, Steam and even in-game during downtime in the garrison, people who might even have serious disagreements on the forum and you may even see as hated foes, that shit falls away when you have a civil discussion in a place that isn't directly monitored by the developers for feedback. As for the forums? that'll never change simply because it shouldn't, the forums are currently a peaceful environment if you just want to chat about the game or post something funny but are a logical machine when it comes to debating, a platform where players can argue over their opinions and feedback in order to create a refined batch of information the developers may be able to use. And that, in my opinion, is perfect for the developers. Given that the only other feedback they get are from UAT tests. I mean, pushing a false narrative is one way to divide a community between the honest and the dishonest, especially when this narrative is backed by falsified statistics and some of the worst players this game has ever seen. Melee is powerful and unique already - it has been for a long time, but it cannot be compared with ranged in raw kill-count divided by the time it took because RANGED combat takes place at RANGE, you have many more opportunities to engage the enemy - and since we're not playing during the JPApocalypse, you can actually kill opponents at range in a reasonable time, meaning that melee is quickly suppressed for the same reason why melee died out in the real world. Melee opponents have to close the distance, ranged opponents do not. Guns that can kill you from a hundred meters away mean that you have to close that distance while they can fire at you, creating a situation where either the gun has to be so weak it can't kill you on approach and thus why would anyone play ranged or a situation where the gun works properly and melee is mowed down, thus why would anyone play melee. As said, swords have a place in this game and are powerful, it's just their primary use comes from disruption, since they match up pretty badly when comparing the best melee player to the best ranged player if you compare their kills vs the time it took. This means they're less efficient if you want to kill a bunch of people but far more efficient if you want to rush in and kill a team one by one, you draw that aggro and start cutting them apart which allows your team to push. And that's how it has to be, because the system itself is flawed. There is no way to make a perfect balance, if you make guns mediocre then everyone plays melee, if you make melee on par with ranged melee then why would anyone play melee. There's no happy solution to this system because the system itself is a flawed concept brought into the game by a Dark Souls fanatic, not a clear-headed games designer. The problem with EC's melee system is the system itself, it's designed for 1v1 duelling rather than free-flowing combat against multiple opponents, there's no skill in it just a lot of prediction which creates a huge issue for balance, one that cannot be resolved without changing the melee system entirely but this will not happen simply because of the developers' lack of manpower.
Even without guilds, factions would be our gangs. Even without factions players would flock to their gangs of similar skill or country, this is hard-coded into us humans. I dare you Aeldari to bitch about being labeled human.
This is a great point Molitva. It is ok to argue about things, but try not to get defensive and mean. There really is no call for that sort of behavior. If you have to, just move on and ignore anyone who does that sort of thing. The same thing goes in game. Griefers might piss you off, but sinking down to their their level just brings down the game as a whole.
You know what I think the issue is.... We all talk about this crap via Internet. What we need is to all fly to one central location, sit down at a covention centre and have a whole lot of smoked pork, ribs and beer (root beer for us non-drinkers) and just eat too much, drink too much and talk EC. I bet that most of us would walk away feeling pretty good about things, and realize that our opinion is just an opinion, and that we can compromise in some areas and stand true in others. But instead, my famous formula comes into play (I know I've used it before, but it's true).
there's 2 types of people on this forum, there's people who think melee takes skill and people who are right
