I agree with Dave completely, and lol awesome avatar mate. Mount and Blade is a great game though let's be honest to lol... But I would like if it was more stable, and whilst I hope melee's TTK isn't short, I hope its possible to deal incredible blows with just player skill rather than weapon or chosen abilities. If an Ork rightly power blows an elite players character, most likely they're dead even if they wield Gorechild or some Astartes Hammer. I would like to add chime in another opinion of mine, but I really hope EC takes much inspiration more-so from Planetside-1, than two. I personally prefer the first installment completely, but also it truly shines in terms of multiple-compartment vehicular combat stimulation, great fighting that really depended upon large converges of combined-arms, and atleast mulitple infantry to do something bold by themselves.
get warband and napoleonic--warband has best singleplayer/the most mods for it, and napoleonic has the best multiplayer (IMO)...and get Prophesy of Pendor for warband, as well as other mods you find
i said take inspiration--also, they are also using space marine for inspiration. and slashing around blindly isnt my idea of good melee combat--space marine is a button mashing fest once you get into melee, and chivalry and M&B are the opposite. they require huge amounts of skill.
I would recommend trying it out. It should be cheap right now on STEAM if you have it. There are multiple titles and one that focuses on Revolutionary times using Muskets, cannons and bayonets (it's accurate and a lot of fun). I would recommend getting Warband first and if you like it enough go with Fire & Sword
I agree, plus Chivalry uses Faint attacks, ducking, and so on. SO they've really expanded upon using melee combat more than any other game I've seen. I just hope they avoid the Combo System approach that was in Space Marine. I won't deny it was fluid with the animation or the flow of combat. But for an MMO I don't think it's needed. They will definitely have too work out the combat system of using a Pistol with a melee weapon. The rules of tabletop say a pistol can be used with the sword. So I wonder if they will use that as well?
I found that Chivalry's combat system was a little too easy to abuse, defending and parrying strikes was complete ezmode. It's a great basis though I would agree with that and with some tweaking it could be perfect.
Being similar to Planetside 2 actually has me worried - it didn't really feel like an MMO to me. There was very little in the way of social interactions and whole affair more like a game of a team deathmach over a huge map. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it from time to time, but it was more of a "quick fix" kind of a game for me. Jump in, shoot things for an hour or so and log off (I rarely played more than that too). You really didn't feel any connection with the character that you play, it was just a grunt with a gun - or even a gun attached to a grunt. At the very least I hope we'll see smaller (instanced) maps as well, so that you could escape from the zerg (or should I say Tyranid?) and enjoy a small-scale fight.
As far as we know, there will be smaller instanced areas, mines, which would go as dungeons. I think they are called Underworld here. They are promised very nice settings, apart from the original desert-arctic-etc landscapes.
I think what they meant by "similarity to Planet Side 2" was the MMO FPS concept. Using it as a guide for player skill against player skill. As well as using the squad, platoon, & outfit organization for players to form up and communicate.
Yeah...just here's hoping that it'll be more of an MMO. Aside from scale, Planetside 2 wasn't one, at least for me.
