I appreciate all the feedback. I really enjoyed those that responded in character. Something this community needs to consider is that we are investors in not only an idea, but a product. Longevity and viability are extremely important. Knowing the marketplace and who you are competing against is essential and you must have a plan. This game needs to have something that will draw new players in a marketplace that will soon have games like Battlefront II and Quake Champions. What's going to make new players, not to mention us lifers, want to split time and money? Don't say "Because it's 40k!!". Dawn of War III will soon be out and it's multiplayer feature will be more like the table-top game. Previous DoW games had plenty of story and background. They have context. Can the 40k lore compete with Star Wars? ...no... But a rich story and immersive environment could make gamers want to split their interests. If it was done right, that's where EC would have an edge. As of now EC has no context.
That's....not what I'm seeing at all. I get what you're saying here. EC does deliver itself like an Early Access game right now where you're given no real introduction to the world and just thrown into it. The tutorial would be a good place to actually deliver some backstory via a narrator rather than soulless servo skulls. EC can get away without having any cutscenes or narrative because 40k is an established IP, one that many people feel needs no introduction. I'm not saying that's a good thing but it's one 40k fans easily give it a pass for. And at the end of the day, EC isn't a game one can immerse themselves in. I'm sure at one point they thought they could do a living narrative kind of thing but the team clearly can't support that, nor does the gameplay itself really lend itself to it. Does it make for much of a story when the Eldar fight the Space Marines at Agnatio for the 120th time that week? As I said above, EC feels so far behind the curve that I think many would view investing in story as a waste of resources when so many other things feel like they need to be addressed first.
Pretty sure we are not investors , i've never seen any profit return on my 20 euro's i used to buy the game. please understand we are nothing more than consumers and are not considered investors when we spend our money's not in this noir any other industry. The difference is easy. Investors invest money to see money in return and Consumers spend money to get a product in return. You spend your money's, you got the product as far as investors are concerned you have been milked .. and they don't owe you anything. The dev's on the other hand need to keep us happy so they can sell us more stuff in the near future to keep their investors happy and their jobs secured for another few years. Now all we as consumers can do is make our voices heard. What you did here is the correct way to voice your consumer complaints about the product , but you stepped out of line when you called us investors imo. this is the sad reality of the gaming industry. or any industry for that matter Its up to the devs to keep us happy. voicing our complaints and concerns is a good way to let the devs know how the consumers feel about their product so they might take that into consideration in the future .. which would be wise if they wanna remain employed in their current jobs . because if we consumers pull out they will be without a job , not us , not the investors , but they will be going to the unemployment office. Im sure the dev's would like to put everything you mentioned into the game . but it's not like these things magically appear, it takes time and money and especially the money part is difficult . they have enough time , its their job after all, i'm pretty sure they have a list of things to do that's a mile or 2 long and probably will never ever get to implement all their ideas because of the money needed to finance such endeavors . But! if enough consumers start to demand these things they might choose to dedicate some time into implementing these things just to keep us as customers. But the devs also have priority's on which projects they need to work on. its a tough balancing act of directing company resources into continues development. remember every time we ask to fix a graphic error it takes resources in the form of man power to fix these things . man power needs to be payed aswell devs dont work for free they earn a normal salary like you and i do., ATM the game is suffering from both an identity crisis and a non functional melee/ranged combat interaction. as these things kind of define the product its very important they 1st fix these issues before they move on to story lines campaigns and in depth lore and fluff.. all these can be added to the product later once its core design is finally stable .
Yep, what you see is what you get. Everything from the original concept/founders is pretty much scrapped. God help us all
When you realize that Relic, a long time developer of a well known W40K strategy game, no longer knows how to make a proper W40k strategy game anymore, then you know all hope is lost.
The W40k Lore is vast and detailed but we can see only a tiny bit in any of GW game. (except Roleplaying ones) Or the games concentrate on the story about ONE chapter and on a tiny bit of time. Their history is way longer that a single war on a planet. The books give a good part of LSM history before/during/after Horus heresy, but that only LSM history. How about internal conflict between chapter after the heresy (Dark Angel and Space Wolf for example). The fact that Tau were discovered before the heresy (they were still at the age of Steel), and when LSM came back to see, Tau had evolved to what they are now. And then there is Eldar/Imperium/Ork/Chaos/Dark Eldar/Necron/Grey Knight/Battle sista/Inquisitorium, lore. And lets not forget the most important, Tyranid's lore. nomnomnomnomnomnomnomnomnom.
