Alice had just thrown here smoke grenade and was about to charge the line, to redeem herself in the eyes of the Emperor for her earlier cowardice, but before she could an urgent call for help came over on her vox. Two squads were pinned down by autocannon fire and they needed help to advance. A quick look around told Alice that she and her squad were the only ones at the gate. Even if they could sneak up to the punisher cannon through the smoke they didn't have nearly enough men to clear the fortress. They would need help and these pinned down lads would be just the ticket. The two gunners she had ran into radioed just seconds later, saying they had the autocannons under suppressing fire and now would be a good time to take them out. It was difficult for Alice to see through all the smoke and dust but the flashes of the autocannons told her that they were far too close for artillery. They'd have to be killed the old fashioned way. Alice had two frag and two Krak grenades but she didn't know which to use in this situation. She didn't have time to think about it now so she ran back to the gun crew and crouched down, firing her lasgun in short bursts and trying her best to give the squad some suppressing fire. "Hey guys?" She radioed in between bursts. "I have grenades for those guns but which ones do I used for hard targets like this? Frag or krak?"
"Krak for armor, frag for personnel!" Shouted Brock between burst. The chaos of the fight must have confused the little vox operator. Shaking his head, he continued to pour rounds into the autocannon's cover. Eventually they would break through.... or run out of ammo. He prays to the Emperor it was the former and not the latter.
"And that's an autocannon sheltered in a fortress wall that we need to clear out so...frag! We need to use frag grenades to clear the bunker! Got it!" Alice knew the gunners probably couldn't hear her over their heavy bolter but she wanted them to know that she'd gotten it right. If she didn't she'd be wasting the Machine God's resources and that was looked down upon by the munitorium and... Her mind was getting away from her. She closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths. She needed to calm down so she took a few heartbeats to remind herself of home. The forests she used to play in as a little girl. The rivers she would throw rock in. The glaciers and blue skies that dominated the landscape. The Kasr that was her home, that taught her duty and responsibility as soon as she could walk, and the parents who taught her how to do everything from read to sit at the table to hold a lasgun and clean a chimera's multilaser. The parents who loved her no matter what she did and who would always love her. Even if she never saw them again. Alice opened her eyes after just a few seconds but her mind was focused. She was ready to do her duty. "Guys, let's go take those autocannons. Who's taking point?"
The Krieger's lifeless lenses stared at Valhallan for a few brief moments before. No other regiment understood loss and sacrifice. Not like his own. They didn't throw away their lives. They pay for their transgression with the lives of millions of Krieg. But they didn't need to understand, the Emperor knew of their penance. That was what's important. "You are quick to judge Valhallan. Perhaps they died in a crash. Taking an enemy position outside the walls. Or perhaps simply gunned down upon landing. Yet it doesn't matter. What does is that they died fighting for the God Emperor, gave their lives for him. And if this sergeant is unworthy, then he will pass just as the rest." Upon the Kasrkin's arrival, she at least understood what Krieg were about, at least as well as any outsider could. "Last part we're in agreement, the rest. Well, can't make any promises miss." As the comm's girl asked who was taking point, Unit 7 pulled out a frag grenade, letting it cook for an uncomfortable amount of time before tossing it into the bunker slit. "Heh, don't mind if I do kid." With that Unit 7 spun around and bashed the door open with the butt of his gun just as the frag went off, along with horrified shrieks that were like music to his ears. Twisting into the door, the Kriegers Hellgun sang its symphony of death cutting down two of the still living traitors before charging in, bayonet lowered, silent as the grave, he charged. @Jammysod @Starcaller @Vlayden
It hadn't taken too long after the Cadian's words that Lianna reached over and yanked her off the ground for a moment, that sealed helm staring right at her face before lowering her onto her feet again. "What are you, a Sororitas? Hold your damned gun properly!" She scolded her before hefting the plasma gun and jogging in behind the Kriegsman - she knew damned well that he was perhaps more merciless than some Astartes. A few glances were given to the carnage and then to the Grenadier, a single nod of approval being given. "Bunker seems secure." She said into the comm channel. "Or do I have to baby all of you and carry you here? If they're firing on you just say so; plasma guns aren't known to kill Space Marines just out of rumour." A tiny hint of confidence was in her tone as she said this, even despite how the entire battle was most probably going against her from the start. Eh... The camo cloak that was atop her shoulders was only somewhat comforting; with the dust settling, she'd have to stay slow to not be noticed.
