http://forum.eternalcrusade.com/threads/q-a-answers-compilation-thread.32349/page-3#post-785650 yes i know that this was already discussed: but i thinked was something about "for now we have 1v1 match but when the game become open you can have 1v1v1v1" or something like that. insteat that answer appear like that we can only have 1v1 zone with ONLY allied the other 2 (or more) faction, so the game will never have 3 way or 4 way battle?
Whaaaa :/ Welp Faction vs Faction vs Faction vs Faction goes in the trash...I guess it went in the trash ever since they announced the re-structuring though...since the small scale combat doesn't make much sense with 4 factions. I am curious as to the 'conditions' of these temporary alliances and what exactly dictates 'who gets what'. I mean assuming your faction has its own 'scoring system' why would you even participate in fights where the rewards/ownership is inferior? This is sounding way too vague for my liking
I have a bad feeling that the game is being designed as 1 faction vs. another, but it doesn't cater for the fact that there are 4 (and eventually more) factions fighting on the same planet. Sadly the only way I can see this working is if: Chaos owns an outpost Space Marines attack it The instance is locked out to other non-participating factions. Sure the lore has many scenarios where there have been cross faction alliances...even with orks. But it was regarded as a rare event. I have a feeling this may happen more often than makes sense. At this point we can't even begin to surmise what exactly will be at launch.
I have to say i agree, its gonna be hella awkward. Orks and Chaos fighting in an instance when the SM wanna contest the same map tile and kill them both an imaginary bouncer will come to the SM warleader and go "sorry, your not on the list". Hope they look into other avenues of making more then 1v1 possible. As is, there still isnt really an incentive to even join as an ally and help some other faction, if we see that system for launch that is.
I think it's being misinterpreted, notice how he says match, as in instanced match that we currently have. The current tech may not allow for more than 2 factions at once, but with the mythical open-world update, this restriction would be lifted.
it merely reinforces the concept that while there can only be 2 sides to any match and any ally (3rd side) can only join the battle on one of the 2 existing sides and is therefore treated as one of that sides players, this would mean that allies can heal each other, arnt supressed by each other, suffer FF penalties if they attack each other, get no xp for killing each other etc etc, so if LSM and CSM are fighting for an outpost and CSM is understaffed Orks could join on the CSM side and the battle would treat CSM and Ork as if they were the same faction .. but that CSM would get the capture if they won even if Ork did all the heavy lifting, eg: LSM and CSM start a battle for outpost, CSM numbers drop due to reasons and Orks come in as CSM allies, but at the end of the match there is just one CSM and 15 Orks on the CSM side ... CSM get the win
Damn.... this looks like it's the final nail in the coffin for this game for me then if this is indeed true.... Let's just pretend that in 2 years time the devs actually manage to reach their "Stretch Goals", and have merged some of the continents territories into Open Arenas: How the hell can this work if there isn't 4+ Faction Sided Battles within these enlarged territory instances? Plus Nathan just recently confirmed in his latest interview with AngryJoe that they plan to have Tyranids invade PvP battles. So are Tyranids not classed as a "Side"/Faction in this game now? Or do they join one of the "Sides" in these 2 sided battles? @BrentEllison @Oveur
Factions teaming up "officially" feels pretty icky to me. I mean planetside 2 has some great battles where fronts from all 3 factions clash but within no more than a few short minutes the faction with the least population in the area will withdraw and let the other 2 sides waste bodies and resources while they go and be useful taking other territory. And theres definitely cases where 2 factions will *largely* stop attacking each other and focus on the 1 other faction (usually because this faction is over popped and taking over most of the map). Even in this case though, if faction A and B are both fighting C, soldiers from A and B will still kill each other on sight every time. Humies and orks working together in small spaces and healing each other and capping points together seems a bit far fetched for smaller battles. I think faction leaders agreeing to temporary ceasefires to concentrate on other factions should be part of the macro of EC as the game gets bigger though.
