Of course there's no reason to fight for Arkhona. That was blatantly obvious the moment they decided to have 4 separate factions all battling for global domination of the same planet at the same time.

The story of Eternal Crusade and Arkhona is entirely irrelevant. It will never make sense because Eternal Crusade does not make sense in the lore.

What we have in Eternal Crusade is a Tyranid Hive Fleet, 5 loyalist Space Marine Chapters, 5 Chaos Space Marine Legions, 5 Ork Clans, and 5 Eldar Craftworlds combining their resources to take over some backwater planet no one's ever heard of before because it was either invented out of nothing for EC or taken from some of the most obscure fiction in WH40k that hadn't been explored.

In addition, the plans for the future to add more factions to the fight like the Tau, Sisters of Battle, Necrons, and every other faction in WH40k that can go toe-to-toe with a Space Marine by some stretch of the imagination... well...

Yeah, this would never happen in WH40k lore. Ever.

Eternal Crusade is just a WH40k shooter with a variety of factions. I would argue that they shouldn't even bother trying to explain it with a backstory, because trying to explain it will just result in saying stupid stuff.

It's an MMOTPS with 4+ factions in the WH40k universe. That's its selling point.

    Yes.

And video games have stories, because they need a plot to tie the gameplay together.

    Doom has a story.

The most recent one has a story I really like. Humans needed a new energy source. So we invaded Hell and started taking the fuel that the demon civilization runs on. We also kidnapped hundreds of demons and surgically embedded powerful weapons into their bodies so we could use them as a slave army. Then the demons decided to fight back against the human invaders. So humanity killed all the demons so we could take all their stuff.

Yes. In Doom, humans are the baddies.

The fact that so many people played it, didn't think about the story whatsoever, enjoyed killing demons in horrifically graphic ways, and felt like they were the good guy because they were a human killing demons, is just absolutely perfect. It makes a point about human prejudice and selfishness with its story, that only gets more poignant when people ignore the story entirely.

    *fixed it for you

Ynnead is actually the Eldar giving birth to a new chaos god, on purpose this time.

What you all don't realize is that buried on Arkhona is ancient factory that produces something the entire galaxy needs but has lost the means to manufacture.. Left Twix
  10. Actually its: You're the doomslayer, you wake up, there are daemons, you kill the shit out of them. Turns out humans are greedy fucks and tried to use hell's demonic energy as an energy source, so now you have to kill the shit out of some more daemons and close the portal.

    Thats it.
    There is no direct story.
Majority of the story is lore, background shit.
The game doesn't slow down for the story, the story is pushed aside to focus on the core game.

Actually a lot of people thought about the story, because its not AAA cutscene bs, its just you and your gun killing the shit out of daemons, its what the original doom was all about, hell its what shooters where all about.
You're over analyzing the story here, it has no greater meaning, you just think there is, really the game is about sticking the middle finger to modern shooters.

The real depth of the story comes from the DOOMSLAYER's background, where he lost his son and made a deal with satan to get him back, but satan fucked him over and now he's angry.
SO HE KILLS THE SHIT OUT OF DAEMONS.

Similarly, EC doesn't need a plot or overarching story. The story is the lore of 40k, there are different factions fighting over things, this is just another planet they're fighting over.
Each map is just another place on the planet that holds meaning to that planet, a factory, a hive city, a military base, nothing special. Each "campaign" is just a campaign of each race fighting each other for dominance.
For honor's multiplayer has no story other than "you're X fighting a team of Y".
Cod's multiplayer "you're a soldier killing other soldiers"
Focusing on trying to make EC part of the greater universe as some big deal is just a waste of time, its meaningless, I dont want some big event, I just want to fight other dudes as a dude.
Even 40k games that are based on events are still just "this is a battle where you're X fighting Y"

I feel like people keep forgetting that this is a game and it should be made as a game, this idea for "cinematic" bs is a waste of time.
Also with the core gameplay being as bad as it is, story isn't something that should be focused on.
