Any game that has you cause damage has a ttk. for world of tanks the penetration can be a problem but with the right gun you can pen any tank. The health bar is one of the worst features of wot imo, a tank doesn't just stop working because i shoot a metal plate repeatedly. Unless the crew is dead or the engine and gun are destroyed the tank should still be able to function. Hit boxes wouldn't be needed for every character, the terminators are the only troops that are highly resistant to bolters, the chance to pen on regular power armor can be simulated with a health bar. If you mean for vehicles then yes destructible parts would be a great addition.
That exactly wht I am aiming at. Health bar are bad representation of the damage dynamic, I wonder why we have not evolved from there.
Requiring the damaging of specific parts of a vehicle in no way implies it will be one shot killed. You would simply need to hit parts of the vehicle that would logically need to be destroyed to stop it. Modules could withstand a large amount of damage on there own, its just bad game design if i can kill the tank by shooting a headlight 5 times when that has no effect on the internal workings of the tank.
There our two kind of game times for game like this (I'm talking about wot like games not EC...tho it could work.) Arcade...or realistic. Each one has its own appeal and such. The best example of Aracde is Wot. You tank have Hp pool that our drained as they take successful damage for the enemy. Each gun tick of a amount of Hp equal to the result of a damage roll based on the guns min and max damage. These shots can also do damage to special modules based on were they hit, wounding crew men, destruction sighs, etc. And if your really lucky and/or now where your shooting you might destroy the tanks ammo rack, killing it instantly. Warthunder is more of a realistic game mode. The tanks dont have any clearly shown HP bars, but instead have a ton of hidden ones. Pretty much you only HP bars our your modals. No with this system one shot whether it be luck or not can destroy that vehicle before they even knew you existed. While other shots could be completely useless. The thing i dont like about this kind of game mode, is that more often then not you'll get one shoted by the first shot that pen your armor, (esspicaly in higher matches where the guns our really really strong) Also i can brawl or have my big slugger fest that i personally enjoy, as your all dead on your first or some times second shot, even more if your really lucky. Also if you run into a take your gun can pen, any points that would actually kill the tank, your pretty much useless for your team, In wot i can slowly widdel down a bigger tank if can pen there weak points and keep my self alive. There our plenty of people who like this kind of game mod thos, I have nothing agents them. I personally don'tlike diying by the first tank that hits me, dosnt ring the fun belly in my opinion But there's no proof or justification to say that HP Bars our out dated and need to fad out. btw, that dosnt make it bad game desige, just how the game works. i kill people all the time by shooting them in the hands and toes, yet i dont see people bitching about that
I am in favour of realistic game mode for sure. But, yes game bar are outdated. I can say that because I play video game and wargame and RPG for a very long time and I have seen evolved the way game have evolve. In wargame for example the damage system is become very precised overtime and take more and more parameter into account using the full potential of the computer. Health bar are a very arcade style that is back to 2D shooter of 30 years ago. I think that they could have put some research into a more dynamic (therefore realistic) way to account damage. RO have a better way to take damage into account (especially tank) but it is still health bar for human (with bleeding, stress, stun).
Even though not having a health-bar is more realistic, I do prefer being able to tell how much damage I'm dishing out and/or taking. Having information readily available is never a bad thing, but I know that some players will have no problems discerning their damage output and/or input(?) without the need of obvious visual aids like a health-bar. This might very well be solved by having health-bars be in game, but add an enable/disable button in the interface menu.
Speaking of terminators do you guys think they should have a downed state at all ? Perhaps heavier classes like Terminators/Mega-nobs and Wraithguard could be without. As for TTK I would really dislike 5 seconds to kill a terminator with a bolter. In my view they should cause changes on the battlefield. When seen in groups we should see tactical marines running away from them to more fortified positions or leading them into devastator fire. They should force the enemy to deploy different tactics, throw grenades , ask for support. If not at least the shield version should be very durable.
I dunno about the downed state for termies but imo they should be able to take more than 5 seconds of bolter fire, rather around 10\12. Why? Because they're gonna cost a player a lot to be fielded, they're going to be a rare commodity, sth like a reward for hard work and it would be stupid to lose them too quickly, they must make the difference, they are terminators after all. 5 seconds is nothing as termies will definitely be fire magnets, imagine 3 or 4 tacticals shooting at the termie with just their bolters, they could dispose of him in a second, that's not right. Termies shouldn't even be killed with one heavy weapons shot like other infantry (say lascannon) not to mention the regular bolters and this goes perfectly well with the lore and game play mechanics as well imo.
Damage counters would be good. Numbers coming up next to the target you are shooting at, showing the amount of damage you are dealing and to who it is to. Green for FF and Red for Enemy.
