Call it what you will, but there's no doubt that something amazing is happening here. The Devs have certainly learned invaluable lessons from the unfortunate failures of those who have walked the treacherous path to create what we have waited for such a long time to receive. We of course wish them the best of luck and hope to continue to support and guide their efforts as much as possible. Fanfare aside, the truth of this thread is a sort of "hopes and dreams" section that anyone can post in. By the unpredictable nature of the Fateweaver, perhaps yours may catch his favor and see your dreams and ambitions come to light..... My hopes and dreams for EC are as follows: Virtually everything should contribute to the war effort. From fighting in it, acquiring resources from capturing territory, to wisely utilizing the flow of those resources to fund your next move. The game feels similar to Space Marine. The emphasis of sound effects are evident in the experience. Individual Orks feel important and can even do a bunch of shenanigans other races can't: fire themselves at enemies to kill them. Combat is as intense as Battlefield 3. Combat is as brutal as Space Marine. The sense of scale is as mind blowing as the lore. The environments are as beautiful as they are hostile and GrimDark. They are also crafted with the utmost care to make the experience of fighting within them as epic as possible. I would love to see destruction of the environments on a large scale but that's unlikely. Please have some things be destructible though! The more the better! I LOVE Red Faction Guerrilla! Superweapons! Customization that supports the immersion of lore. "Blowing up" a character's armor, weapons, and gear in a Iron Man's holofield would make for some seriously enjoyable moments for customization. Achievements and trophies are displayed as relics, seals, skins, teef, skulls, banners, and other race specific items. Boarding actions between Strike Forces in certain situations. Players can cause certain hazards on the battlefield, such as laying minefields, utilizing chemical, biological, or warp driven weapons to cripple or confine the enemy in an attempt to outmaneuver them. Orks can Loot enemy tanks and weapons to help them Zerg. They should be the only playable race not only able to, but encouraged to. A proper WAAAGH is merely organized chaos after all.... The Tyranids will eventually win a campaign no matter how hard players fight them - the objective is to simply hold onto your objectives for as long as possible while crippling the enemy's. PvE is absolutely brutal and terrifying. The concept should scream SM exterminatus all over it. I love the idea that its randomly generated, so you could face Genestealers one time, and the horrifying idea of an army of Carnifex's the next. PvE should feel like a race between factions who are in the same area. Getting to the objective and securing it means trying to get the Tyranids to react more to them than to you, or to be a walking god and smite them all to get what you need. Fortresses should be located in strategic area's of the continent and should not be just objectives to be taken and held. Put artillery batteries inside them, com links, missile bays, anti-aircraft weapon systems, orbital cannons and other things that make them more threatening to the enemy than just 4 solid walls overlooking a mountain pass. Players can outfit their gear to call in Ordinance from fortresses, artillery batteries, missile silos, or from their own Strike Cruiser. The sky is important and easily overlooked. It should be the single greatest piece of art in the game. I know I'm not the only one who'd pay an artist to make it absolutely gorgeous. Dynamic weather and environmental conditions. From intense UV rays that cook people alive in certain regions in daylight, brutal winter storms that reduce the visibility of a zone to a mere 10 feet in front of you, to acid rain and the terror's of the warp in the middle of the night keeping players on edge and away from certain areas. Commander may risk an entire campaign by ordering their army into a zone like this to gain the upper hand, or lose it all in the ravaging clutches of an unforgiving universe. Titans and Superheavies. The expansion of fighting in the immediate space around this world. Fighting in underwater facilities and other "fragile" places where a spray of bullets or a careless grenade could endanger everyone in the facility before it seals itself and players must fight in increasingly smaller and more brutal engagements. A central objective, or series of objectives everyone wants to hold and is a sure way of attracting the attention of everyone, including the Tyranids. Preferably in a Hive or large urban area full of destructible facades and crumbling buildings. HUGE and outstandingly beautiful explosions. Apocalyptic fireballs gentlemen. Big ones. The addition of races in this order: Patch 1.5: Sisters of Battle and the Necrons, Patch 2.0: Dark Eldar Patch 2.5: Imperial Guard, and Tau, Patch 3.0 Grey Knight addtion to the SM's - Hero Class. Each addition to the IoM splits its ability to gain resources. At minimum, the base resource gained is divided between how many subfactions are within the IoM at the time. So, at its peak, the IoM will divide its base income of resources into 3rds. The War Council can then decide if that fraction will change for all additional resources gained in the future. Fewer resources to go around means that the IoM needs to decide between the 4 doctrines it has its disposal - Those of the SM, those of the IG, and those of the SoB, or a mixture of all 3. I hope politics are as violent and interesting as they are in the lore of 40k. I hope voting can take a turn into violence, and the IoM be hamstrung by petty quarrels and heretical power plays that are then put down by the righteous. I hope the Inquisition is a special part of the game that oversees the political affairs of players. As NPC's, they are always watching, and can judge a member of the War Council as heretical if s/he favors one faction, their own Strike Force, makes too many deals, and especially when they sell out their faction to the enemy. If this happens, please tell me that the price of this treachery is Absolution. Absolution -Traitorous Hereticus: A player branded as a Heretic, for their misuse of power over others (exploiting, griefing, political treason, or other ban worthy penalties) are not immediately given the ban-hammer (unless its a gross violation like hacking) but instead are exiled from the common areas of their faction. They are considered expatriates, and all those under their command suffer the same fate. For the length of the campaign, or two weeks (whichever is longer depending on their crime), they exist as their own faction, loyal to none. They can capture points, but have nowhere but their Strike Cruiser as friendly territory. They offer double their normal bonuses, and even additional rewards if killed and will likely be hunted by every race with extreme prejudice until they are readmitted back into the faction after the end of their term. It is assumed they either died or did some glorious deed that gave them forgiveness. More than likely they died. Think that's it for now. I'll be sure to think of more. Go ahead, Tzeentch wishes for your hopes and dreams......
Thats alot of hopes and dreams man Dark souls melee combat mixed with Space Marine Killzone Gunplay / feel / recoil etc... Are my 2
You've really given a thought, I like your ides. I especially love the part where you mentioned the punishment/exile. It would be awesome if you could actually betray your own and turn to chaos whilst being promised a certain reward that would also be player given by, but I'm afraid that would focus the game too much on the conflict between chaos and the Imperium.
It's so long because I was a "Warp Watcher" following DMO since its announcement. I have a massive list on their site of all the idea's we all came up with, but since the website went defunct I've lost it.
#1 is fluid combat combined with execution moves. #2 is a good variety and great looking environments/structures #3 needs moar customization!
Yea smooth and fluid combat is a must while really bringing in the immersion of true "Gothic" ambiance.
Customization, for me, is up there with the mechanics and gameplay in terms of importance. I really like giving my characters a unique feeling. A feature I'd like to see is the appearance of permanent battle damage on your armor as you progress, you know scratches, smokey shoulder plate etc. You'd be getting it after, let's say, amassing a certain amount of damage received through the battles, and you'll be able to remove them via an NPC if you don't like it. For example after reaching the milestone of receiving a total of 5.000 DMG, or losing a total of 5.000 HP, a crack on your imperial eagle would appear (or whatever you're wearing). That. I loved that one.
I have the guilty pleasure of wearing Veteran Shoulder armor in SM, which meant I died 500 times in multiplayer to get it. That'd be something I wouldn't mind at all if it returned.
Permanent battle damage would be an awesome way to show your experience in the game. I've always considered this possible, since it is literally a skin/model you are swapping in. It doesn't have be accurate to actual damage received, just revealing enough to show 'Hey look at me, I've been through this much combat'. I really like your battle damage idea, but having it reset each time you die.
Really? Never played multi in SM. To be honest I barely managed to finish the game, I really, reaaaally, hated being an Ultramarine, plus I was kind of disappointed by the game for some reason, so I didn't even feel like modding it to be a Dark Angel or whatever. If a feature like that, or a variation of it, was to be implemented in the game, it would be sweet. Resetting after each death huh? That would work even better, it would show the other players that you're pretty good, if you ended up having a battered armor.
