It's an mmorpg prejudice I have left over from being a plate/heavy armor class lover. My guild has always had a firm "Warrior vs Mages" rivalry although in this game we all get universal Power Armor sooo ... Kind of a moot point Ironically I think the boxed game Chosen is probably the closest thing GW have to what I'd like to see an 'Aspiring' Sorcerer look like, with a quick Force Weapon -> Power Fist trade out and the typical Sorcerer backpack grafted on. Oh and an aura. If I decide to start playing again I may have to use that guy as the base for a Mastery lvl 1 Psyker.
Honestly, i'd like to trade out my bolt pistol for a power fist and just go pure melee even with the limited warp charges for range attacks, viability be damned.
Actually, I was thinking a Force Sword for quick attacks and a little range, power fist for smashing people from behind, guard breaking, and ripping open tank armor.
Moved from AS info thread: On Aspiring Sorcerer weapons: We pretty much know it won't be a copy of the GW2 style where your weapon decides most of your skill set (half?) because we have confirmation that spells will be restricted by the dedicated and Undivided schools that the AS's build is based on. Brent said that's how they'll keep spell combinations that are inherently too powerful seperate. But maybe if you have a staff, sword, axe, book etc perhaps the spells will adjust depending on the dedicated school you have chosen. That would be my preferred angle. Weapons deal with delivery, alignment defines the effect, like: A different "base" attack spell depending on the recognizable weapon-type. The "shape" if you will - A staff might cast a chain spell, a sword might enable bolts, axes give breaths, books offer beams etc The actual elemental impact and any debuff would be derived from the build's alignment - A Nurglite-wielded axe would apply exponentially growing damage ticks and compromise armor (while the breath attack is maintained) where a Slaaneshi might do some damage but gradually blind players caught in his breath field. I'll admit that's complicated but it is the sort of depth I hope Brent is aspiring to. I'm not a huge fan of Aspiring Sorcerers having massive damage output but I do want them to be game-changingly beneficial to their squad on the offense, in flavorsome and situational ways. What's more likely is that you'll get to choose 2-3 spells from your alignment school and then pick up a bonus one (probably DD) from your weapon. That'll be okay too but I think they can go deeper for support classes, unique Apothecary ammunition/grenade types and stuff like that.
On Doombolt from a few posts back, the current codex has Doombolt under Tzeentch powers, that's what I was basing my comment off of^^. I like the depth mentioned above.. I think that would be quite cool. On Aspiring Sorceror vs Sorceror Lord I just want to mention Brent saying he wanted to make it "Very clear" that you are an Aspiring Sorceror NOT a SL.. which means we may see a SL as a Hero Class.... Let the Galaxy Burn DoW2 style anyone? Personally I don't mind being a little more oriented toward Buff/Debuff.. but only if the debuffs include debilitating mutation from the God of Change^^!
Yeah I figured as much its essentially Bolt of Change but Phil Kelly and the rest of the team were too lazy to actually change it. I wouldn't mind the inclusion of the powers from DoW2 some of those were really cool.
How did I feel about the "Sorcerer" Live stream? In a word, underwhelming. The model is very similar to the standard Traitor/Tactical in comparison to the Apothecary. There was very little actual information on how the Sorcerer would play, we literally got more info out of the Apothecary stream about the Sorcerer. There was no reveal about Psychic Powers or even spitballing what the system would be like. I realize that this is early, and that this might be harsh, but honestly when you include it in the hype for a livestream, lets actually reveal some nuggets of info other than what the early concept of the noob Sorcerer will look like and then watch him be an Raptor for twenty minutes because theres no actual Sorcerer stuff done. A more cynical person than me might say they baited people in with a Sorcerer reveal in the description in order to boost hype and get people watching. After all we literally saw nothing proprietary to the Sorcerer in the stream except a small visual difference between him and a Tactical.
I tend to agree, but not so much about spitballing, they...at least...revealed trees in the Witchfire, Nova, and God Specific fields and we already know how Warp Charges and perils works.
