The sneaky side of EC

The thought of engineer archetype classes doing sabotagery actions crossed my mind too. Would still need class rosters to grow and they've said Techmarines and the faction equivalents are after launch, a natural and logical point to expand on.
They would come with mines but until then there's been thoughts, mostly from crusaders, on having mines be deployable (I don't recall if anyone specified what classes have them until engineers come) or attached to upgrading bases with minefields. Dev talk I found these 3 posts by BrentEllison (Lead Game Designer & Protector) in a search with keyword "mines" here. I don't know if search results can be linked to so just in case it's these posts in the "What is combat like?" thread: One, Two, Three.

I loathe that idea of making cover into a proximity bomb. Rigging resupply crates though would be neat.

Until engineer/sneaky classes come what can get sabotage stuff? I figure "Tacticals" since by their nature they're versatile but don't want to give them too much so as not to risk the other classes not being played. Assault classes?
    • LSM: Tactical & Assault
    • CSM: Legionaire (I'm not calling the class "traitor") & Raptor/whatever name is decided for ground based variant
    • Orks: Shootas & Stormboyz/'ardboyz
    • Eldar: Dire Avengers & Striking Scorpions
    • I excluded other classes like Swooping Hawks thinking that it would be better for them to do their thing rather than sabotage. Though SH obviously bring the jumps & they have been described by Brent as a harasser unit.
There's also the thinking of why sabotage when you can just destroy the thing then get to killin'. Well make the thing destroy what is sabotaged as well as the player. Yay!

Another angle for asymmetry is what is currently planned with psykers between LSM & CSM. CSM get psykers as a basic class + Hero (Lord Sorcerer) while LSM get a Librarian as a Hero class but not a basic class. Along that line, elsewhere in the forums a crusader came up with the idea of an Elite Class scout that was decked out in sneaky killyness + had a single use beacon equipped as default.

Pointing out the Skarboy Kommando Ork hero in the RTS again, assuming he has stealthy things (maybe a group stealth buff because hero?Passive aura to resist spotting?), would be a similar asymmetry in relation to Eldar having a stealth basic class. Of course this goes further with my guessing that Kommandos are Ork Elite classes.
  2. Although I don't want any stealth characters, some sneaky classes would be a great edition. They can be specific to certain legions such as Alpha Legion and Raven Guard

i think you are mistaken, as i remember the cultists getting a stealth upgrade.

Both cultists and normal Chaos Marines got a stealth upgrade. I think the reason Chaos Marines got it might have been due to Chosen Chaos Space Marines, who used to have the Infiltrate special rule (at least, they did in 4th Ed!).
