The thread you're in right now is a discussion about the negative effects of division among the community, in the OP I included hatred towards the devs as one of the things where all of this negativity goes. It's a symptom to a problem, but the point was that haters/hatred toward the devs did not directly cause the top 10 list. Level headed concern did.
Okay, well, i think hatred of the devs started with Nathans steam post with how EC is a good game because there are worst games like Crossfire, or how the EC is more persistent than the best MMOs out there. The Devs really have said a lot of things to tick people off.
Yes, but apparently, he is representative. There are many who hold him up as shining ideal of hatred of the game. Frankly? I don't hate him. I reserve my hatred for beings worthy of it. A 12 year old with a 4th grade education who thinks he is the next Einstein is not worthy of such. I have put him ignore and there he will stay. The problem is, that his attitude is common now. 'I do not agree completely with you therefore I am stupid and can be insulted at will in any way you wish.' Not JUST the haters, either. Wonderful way to have a discussion.
Seems more like people see a burning ship and want to add gasoline to it while on it. Others aren't even on the boat anymore but still hang around for some unknown reason.
And some of us are bailing like crazy and throwing water on the fires for dear life. Maybe that does make me stupid, but I don't want this game to vanish. It is not great, but it is a 40K game with more than 1 faction.
These problems persist because they're allowed to persist. Repeat offenders who only come to the forums to troll, incite, insult and belittle are reported over and over, yet they're still here in the forums trolling, inciting, insulting and belittling fellow forum members. There are many in the community, we all know who they are(Lerdoc) who mostly stir the pot by being insulting, inciting, inflammatory, with nothing constructive to contribute to 99% of the conversations they're partake in. There's no formal system of warnings x 3 then 1 week ban, after than next warning you're perma banned, as you'd see in other forums. The community manager is solely responsible and needs to take the reigns. Though moderating is a thankless task and I respect all of our mods, some of our moderators should be "retrained" or replaced(some, not all). Those that are obviously biased need to be removed, and those left or anyone new should be given free reign as far as the warning then one week ban, then after that "3 strikes you're out" via the perma-Banhammer.
I don't understand why a divide can't be healthy, people for or against is hardly a bad thing it's the attitude and demeanor that's the issue, not the divide.
