Technically, if you speak German and live in central Europe, or at least west of the Baltic countries, north of Italy and Spain, south of Scandinavia and east of Britain, it's pretty likely you have Germanic roots! So it's not too inaccurate. That is, unless you're descended from the Slavic, Celtic, Gaul or any other people that also lived there. But it's not totally wrong! That from the guy who told me to crack fewer Nazi jokes because "It makes non-Germans uncomfortable"
Swiss are descended from the Helvetii, which was it's own celtic culture group. So there!
