Choosing which race to play at launch is tough. Space Marines: This is my original choice and closest to IG. Who wouldn't like defending humanity from alien threats? Throw in an ancient romanesque vibe and genetically engineered supersoldiers wielding huge guns? Awesome. The only problem with this choice is it is the most popular. Every 13 year old will be spamming Space Marines like it's going out of style to be the next MasterChief117. Chaos Space Marines: Chaos is Chaos. Weak minds, greed, lust for power and nearly every human vice defines these guys, which allows the Chaos gods to easily control them. For some reason I think a lot of heavy metal music enthusiasts will like Chaos. I cannot get behind their cause for doing things so while looking cool and trying to destroy humanity, I would not be 100% behind them. Orks: I love Orks. They love to fight and I like their strong bodies and charging en masse to melee technique. Seeing a wall of numerically superior orks running at your outpost would be terrifying. The problem I see playing this race is while looking big, buff and badass, I just cannot fully take orks seriously. Their reasons for fighting don't really make sense and they don't really have an ultimate goal beyond a good scrap. Eldar: Eldar are my least fav race. They visually look thin and weak, I've never liked their tech from all the 40k games I've played. While I commend those who like their hit-fast & maneuverability style of play, I prefer more "Head on Super Assault" type of carnage. 1. SM 2. CSM 3. Orks I'd love to pick SM. Hell my reserved name is an Ultramarine. However I'm concerned everyones going to try and be "emperorofman2133" which will reduce my play experience.
my choice was easy, I play eldar on the tt, I like eldar lore and I don't want to be in the overpopulated faction
Looking at your avatar, it shouldn't be Also there's a hundred threads like this (although this one doesn't have a direct poll in it), but anyway. I am picking Eldar out of the ones currently going to be in the launch. There's a possibility of me making an alt for an ork, but otherwise I wont be playing either of the hulky power armoured gorillas. I am waiting for Dark Eldar to show up for a new primary faction, but until then, I will be kicking around with a Dire Avenger and blasting mon-keigh to bits with a Dark Reaper. Add in maybe a Banshee, or, Arhra spare me, a Striking Scorpion. And... eh I want to try them all at some point
i went with orks cuz they look cool enough and I wanna lead bunch of f2p players with me also being a nob sounds exciting.
I've loved the Dark Angels since my early Warhammer age. Although I hold a great love to Orkz aswell. So its Dark Angel first then Orkz as close second. And if Imperial Guard will make it in later I will roll one of them aswell and hope for a Kasrkin.
I want to address this. When I first saw a space marine I think I was a bit younger than that, and when I actually started collecting 40k (I had just seen them in a hobby store where I collected whfb), I was close to that age but I never felt anything about space marines. The shoulders looked ridiculous to me, the bolters seemed boring and the terminators looked so weird and awkward I didn't really spare them a lot of looks. They have been made the poster-boys, and I agree they have a lot of interesting fluff and appeal to them, but they are no insta-like to anyone, and could also be much less known and loved if GW and BL would ever focus as much on another faction than them. If the developers do any good work with the other factions in EC, I am doubting many new people to 40k will stick with Space Marines the whole game, and we will see a lot of statistical differences for faction numbers.
I played warhammer TT for 10 years without a single Space Marine. I was Eldar, my buddies were Tau, Necrons and Orks, and we had an auxiliary Tyranid force for guests to play as, but for all those years none of us ever played SM. We knew every bit of lore for our respective factions, but the Imperium didn't even factor into the game for us, other than a few scattered pieces of custom terrain and an inherited landspeeder. Just goes to show there's a lifetime's of content in the IP without the pauldron fanboy brigade. That's a big reason why I'm so excited about EC - for the first time since the original DoW, we're finally going to get some breathing room from the Imperium, and see a full showcase of everything else the 40k universe has to offer.
