The tank can operate with limited effectiveness with one person, but in order to increase the survivability, the combat effectiveness and actually be worth the amount of requisition spent on the vehicle, you have an incentive to have additional crew members, for example. A predator is occupied by one driver, he rolls into a city plaza and is swamped by Orkz, The driver is armed with a single autocannon which overheats quite quickly and the main gun has pitiful gun depression and cannot engage in a minimum radius. The enemy attack his tank in close quarters, GG you've just lost a 5,000 Req tank because you didn't have any other crew men. Doesn't even have to be orks, could be SM with Melta guns or whatever. Or another example: Two tanks face off against eachother in a field. One tank has a sole occupant and the other all three crew men all active and communicating with eachother, who do you think will win that outcome? My proposal is to have tanks somewhat functional with atleast one member but severely limited without the addition of other crewmen. I assure you I have played Planetside 2 (And there are bigger problems such as futuristic AC-130s killing everything at spawn), along with Battlefield since Battlefield 2 and a plethora of other games as well as Mili sims. One could argue in this case that a Dreadnought is a one man tank
We have to remind you that the consumer premise is to be an elite soldier of the 41st millennium, not to be an elite tank man And you forget about the scale of this game, there's not gonna be a lone predator running around, there will be at least 10-30 Predators in 1 battle. Now if we let the driver control both the main gun and the tank, you will have 5 times that number, imagine the zerg. In PS2, at least we have aircrafts to control the zerg, but EC won't have aircrafts, not at launch anyway.
1) predator is not a main battle tank...the best possible designation would be that the predator is the bastard son of a light tank and a cruiser tank, with very hard-hitting weaponry, when lascannons are used... 2) The idea for the predator to carry the smallest possible formation of 5 men is good, because you'll need some RP to spawn one...and means to carry people around... 3)I know very well that razorback and predator may seem similar, but razorback is lighter, faster, and has less armor...and that can be reflected in the game...also, it can use twin-linked variations of heavy bolters, heavy flamers, assault cannons, lascannons, or even a multi-melta...don't use lascannons for it (only for predator), and you have 2 distinct armored vehicles, with different playstyle and different role...predator being the light tank, while razorback being the IFV with close combat support capabilities...
Main battle tank is the main tank of every army in the world. It doesn't matter if it's heavy or not. Because SM only have Predator which occupies the role of a tank, it's their MBT.
The reason that the lore says the Predator only have 2 Crew comes from that the Predator only comes with a top Turret, The two sponsons are optional (although you never se a Predator without them). When you add the sponsons you also add two gunners to the crew. GW is like 40k, they have forgotten more than they know they knew. In my opinion EC Predator should have 1 Driver. 1 Gunner for Turret with the option to man the pintle-mounted storm bolter. 1 Gunner for right sponson. 1 Gunner for left sponson. Off topic but here are my opinion on the other marine vehicles. EC Rhino should have 1 Driver with Storm bolter 1 Passenger in control of optional pintle-mounted storm bolter 9 Passengers EC Razorback should have 1 Driver 1 Gunner for turret 1 Passenger in control of optional pintle-mounted storm bolter that blocks the turret. 5 Passengers
for any one who plays planetside 2 and have run into a harasor drive by a great drive and gunner. A.K.A a good team, you will realize just how good dedicated roles in this kind of game can be. It is true that there are a lot of bad harassor groups as well, but my point still stand. I believe strongly in leaving the predator as is right know in game, for a fully loaded predator with sponson guns and a hatch mounted storm bolter, make it 5 people, but have the option not to bring those extra weapons and you can then just have your two man tank, a single driver and a single gunner
I agree. I think that the less people involved the better, but with the balance that each person involved has a useful role. I'm already a little wary about the vehicle vs. infantry balance, and the prospect of people 'hiding/hanging out' in the vehicles, and things devolving into anti-vehicle infantry and vehicle crews dominating. pass the krak ...
You may want to research this a little further...check these if you like... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_battle_tank http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tank_classification ...or a W40k equivalent of a MBT... http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Leman_Russ_Battle_Tank#.VA7ikhbivTo
Well, how comes the Leman Russ is listed as having a Commander, Gunner, Driver, Loader, 2 Sponson Gunners when the sponsons are optional on a Leman Russ then?
