@DeranVendar Arnock could not have thought of any better plan then his brother, Davian. His mind began to wonder about leadership again, but now was not the time or the place to dwell on that fact. OOC Ok I'll separate the squad and do different squad notations to keep it more clean and readable however please keep in mind you are somewhat close to each other and you can see what others are seeing as long as you are on the stairs\same level, not to mention you can use vox to communicate with each other. I still do keep in mind that you are moving from one level to another. <<Tunnels below the Atoll>> @DeranVendar @Uriel1339 @Grall_Stonefist @Vulpas @EvicusDasan1 @Casavay @Avenging-Angel @matt23 The squad was "separated" in the way Davian advised, Caphen, Elijah, Denatus, Arnock and two more marines leading the vanguard, Isaiah and Hadrian alongside Techmarine Akaleon and four marines consisting of the center and Davian and Theo plus last four marines bringing the rearguard. With that composure, they marched down the stairs and into the heart of the Laeran atoll. As they walked, they would feel that the temperature was slowly rising, nothing to serious for their armor to overcome but the change was there and it got higher as long as they went downwards. Reaching the third level was uneventful and they saw many side chambers on that level, although some were sealed they could see various crates and machine parts, probably some sort of storage departments. It was awfully quiet and the only sound was buzzing of the alien engineers far down on the bottom level who seemed unaware of their presence. However the Emperor's Children kept their vigilance and rightfully so, because they were walking straight into a trap which was sprung the moment the Vanguard stepped onto the stairs leading to the second level. <Vanguard> @EvicusDasan1 @matt23 @Uriel1339 @Grall_Stonefist As they stepped on the staircase a shrieking sound broke throughout the entire chamber and the Laer finally joined the fray. From below came a force of Laer warriors, this time they were much more "profiled". A part of them was obviously melee-focused and they had better carapace armor as well as their weapons were four long thin swords and those fighters pushed forward towards them at the stairs while behind they saw a group of Laer aliens armed with only ranged weapons, two on each of them and they were bigger than the "pistols" they used before, obviously packing more punch. They set up the shop right in the center of the level, hiding behind cover and began firing at them. They flew through the "hole" in the chamber and came at the team, throwing themselves at them in order to bog them down and harass them while another group of enemies came from one of the side tunnel exits, they looking like normal Laer force although they weren't to be underestimated. Enemies III Level: 13 Laer Flyers (Elites) mixed weapons brood 25 Laer Infantry (Horde) mixed basic weapons brood Friendlies: 4 Emperor's Children marines, Techmarine Akaleon:20 Hadrian:13 Isaiah:14 <Rearguard> @DeranVendar @Vulpas Keeping it interesting for the rearguard was the fact that the moment they prepared to move in to the third level and stepped on the staircase was the moment they saw the number of those flying Laer aliens detaching from the ceiling up top and moving way too fast at their friends below. However before they could do something about it a horde of aliens broke into the chamber, most of them being slightly smaller brood than they saw, possibly like the engineers they saw before, only this time they were led by four huge aliens, bigger than the sergeant they saw before, all carrying a pair of long and thick power swords and a pair of sharp spears. The Laer intention was clear - they sought to box them in and massacre them. Laeran Atoll - Center Hadrian burst into action as the Laer made themselves known, activating his power axe and hacking away at the xenos. He was aware of the aliens attacking the other sections of the assault force and desired to finish his battle quickly so that he could aid the vanguard. [OOC: Attacking Laer infantry with power axe]
<Rearguard> "Down the stairs swiftly! I'll break their charge!" Falling back and taking up position near the highest step Davian braces himself, in the precious few seconds it takes for his Frost rounds to load up he primes a stun grenade while speaking over force wide channel. "Enemy front line units and heavy infantry approaching from behind! Attempting to stagger their advance until we can all get into position. " Casting his grenade forth he aims it for central mass of the Crushers hoping that by disorienting them it'll stall the advance of those behind them. From there it becomes a matter of raking enemy front line with freezing frost bolts to deliver a one-two stun punch. His brothers had delivered great praise and support for this plan, now was not the time to let them down in putting it into action. As soon as the other members of the Rearguard were down the stairs he would follow them, until that time though there was no retreat, only gun fire and lots of it. OOC: Stun grenade on Crushers. The enemy would find anything but mercy today as a Frag Missile was loaded into the tube, almost immediately being shot outward for the center of the advancing alien in attempt to hurt as many as possible before reaching their line.
