Earlier: Swamp Fever ( @Uriel1339 ) Isaiah laughed almost nervously when his brother complimented him. "Thank you, but what you have that I do not is the mind to use and coordinate this skill, brother. Your skill with the heavy arms is fitting, seeing how it puts you into a position of overwatch. But do not insult the Champion by comparing him to me, please. A great part of my success so far is luck and the blessing of most competent brothers. And seeing how the beast nearly slayed me, I will take your advice regarding cockiness to heart, brother of brothers!" While talking, he'd approached the Kroxigor corpse and a few Sauruses and torn teeth from their maws, planning to make a necklace of those later. Now: Camp Fulgrim Relief "I concur with my brother's brother. At the very least, Brother Caphen is my equal in swordplay, and my superior in matters of tactics! But!", spoke Isaiah, slamming a fist on his own chest. "He is a man I would follow, and is that not the most important trait of a leader?"
Earlier: Another damned good shot from his side, he had disemboweled the massive lizard, though it still had its deathtroes afterwards, he mentally claimed the kill for himself, and anyone else could see would know that he was the one to truly hurt it. Though he didn't care to take any trophies, these where just savage creatures, skin and scales where more a thing for the cousins in the XVII legion, he cared not to bedeck his armour in that. As the others talked away he still just kept quiet, actions spoke louder than words. Now: Denatus didn't really care who got voted leader, the squad wasn't stupid, they had a fair sense of logic, and Caphen wasn't a bad choice, those specialized in melee always rose quickly within the legion, since it was easier to see the visual stride towards perfection in the flourishing moves. Denatus didn't want any place of rank, at least not yet, he was fine with being a warrior, and then he could also concentrate more on perfecting the use of the tools of destruction he had been trusted with, no matter how good someone performed in the art of close combat, phosphex wouldn't care. So while the others took to discussion and votes for leadership, Denatus got an idea, instead of trophies and what not, he would carve a small representation of the carnosaur unto his missile launcher, near the muzzle, that was a way where he could show what grand or dangerous foes he had put down with it, each of his weapons should have the carvings of their greater kills.
-Swamp Fever As soon as the battle and his brothers tended to Theo Began his the rough work of salvaging the geneseed from marines that still had intact prognoids. His narthicanums saw Whir was heard as he went to work through chest plates of various fallen brothers extracting what remained of there geneseeds. Theo Made sure to check every marine the last one he came to was Sergeant Calus. he looked to him searching for both of his prognoids and finding none. Before he left the sergeant he Dragged him and several other bodies to the island and left a marker site on there Huds map for retrieval of bodies, armor and bodies and what could not be carried with them after mission. "Rest well sergeant Calus, Your duty ended here but the rest of ours will not, We will carry your memory with us through every mission and make sure our company will live on in the legends of our legion." Theo said to there dead sergeant before turning to the xenos. Switching his narthicanum to empty vials and activating his saw again he began taking samples from each type of xeno specimen there was on the field marking there vials each of different specimens. Looking at each xenos weapons he took careful samples of the acidic poisons on them and smaller sample sizes that could be contained in vials for later research on it. Lastly before leaving he skinned part of one of the beasts Leather like hides taking enough that it could cover a section of damage pauldron and other for later study and possible use. Leaving behind the battle with his brothers Theo followed his brothers preparing himself again for more work to help make sure his brothers kept going. -Relief Camp As the others began a discus ion on who was to take the place of sergeant and hold the honor of using his blade Theo thought for a moment before speaking. It would not likely be his place he had work to do to keep his brothers going that was his job and being burdened with command and politics would possibly disrupt his works on keeping the squad going especially if someone fell and he had to retrieve there gene seed. As he saw most others agreeing on Caphen for his skills in swordsman ship and leading at the front would likely fit for there legion and his senses in combat would prove valuable on the battlefield. "I vouch for Caphen as well to take our sergeants blade and to wield it with honor as Calus did." Theo said as he finished the last work that he could before they would be moving out on himself.
<Jungle - small relief camp> @DeranVendar @Uriel1339 @Avenging-Angel @Vulpas @Grall_Stonefist @EvicusDasan1 @Casavay @matt23 "Then it is settled," Rylanor nodded and placed the Absolution on Caphen's shoulder, "By the right I have as the Champion of the Legion, I invoke the sacred rights of battlefield promotion and bestow the title of Sergeant on our Brother Caphen. You will lead your brothers into battle and as a Sergeant, you will need to lead by example, pushing more than all of them to show your worth and reach the highest ideals of perfection set before us by our Lord Fulgrim and the Emperor Himself, blessed be His name." Rylanor smiled and handed him the sword, "Wield this blade with honor it deserves, each life you take will strengthen the might of the 19th Company. Of course, your new position will still need to be ratified by your company's Captain as well as Lord Commander Vespasian once we get back to the fleet, but survive this and you'll get it no problem." After the ceremony was over, the Emperor's Children force was led onward by Rylanor and now Sergeant Caphen, who besides his new power sword had lots of things to think about. <Jungle Ruins> @DeranVendar @Uriel1339 @Avenging-Angel @Vulpas @Grall_Stonefist @EvicusDasan1 @Casavay @matt23 Eventually, the marines reached the bottom of the strange ruins, a ziggurat-like building covered in moss and vines, the jungle keeping it hidden from the prying eyes with a tall tower in the center of it, standing there like some sort of a beacon - perhaps the location of the signal was inside of it? Staying on their toes in case more angry lizards show up, Emperor's Children slowly crept up through the trees towards the stairs of the building but they were not alone. Despite them having their guard up, this new player was unlike any other they encountered before. It could hide in a plain sight and no marine would be able to notice it before it was to late. Similar thing happened now as sudden shift of cannopy on a nearby tree made Rylanor stop dead in his tracks, aiming outward with his bolter while clutching the standard of the legion. "Circle formation brothers," he ordered instantly, "We are not alone." As if on his word, a number of red laser dots appeared on their armors before a voice spoke from nearby, the sound of it quite strange and obviously distorted by a helmet, although the speaker also spoke on bad low gothic. "Drop your weapons mon'keigh and state your business. Don't even think of something stupid, we got you surrounded." Friendly forces: Champion Rylanor 17 HP with the banner up, 2 Emperor's Children marines. As long as the banner is standing, each of you who are in the range of it have +1 on all your actions. HP: Elijah: 10 Isaiah: 14 Davian: 10 Hadrian: 13 Denatus: 15 Theo: 13 Caphen: 13 Arnock: 10 EDIT: New pic of the ruins
Caphen growled as he spoke to his squad. "Do as they say brothers. We serve no purpose to our Legion if we are simply slaughtered by cowards." With disgust Caphen slowly dropped his weapons as demanded by the obvious xenos seeing how it butchered the gothic language.
The martch had been fairly standard, even if they where on egde. Then as they neared the ziggurat things changed very quikly, they where surrounded, aim markes upon their armour, and surely more hid in the around them, even though the foes wherent identified, there was a certain egde to their words. Denatus, started to lower his missile launcher, taking it one handed to his side, looking like he was lowering his weapon, though his other hand moved to his side, where his phosphex grenades rested, he didn't grab it just yet, but he prepared himself for the very quick movement soon to come, for now he waited to just see what would happen next, and how his brothers would react, but these assailants would not go unpunished.
Theo walked with his brother keeping his bolter in his hands when he heard Rylanor He quickly put his back with the others in a circle dropping with to one knee. He kept his eyes out trying to see the enemies they would to be faced. Not seeing them he noticed the red dots that began appearing on him in his brothers. Theo gritted his teeth as he heard the xenos give them a command and Caphen order them to comply. Theo Felt disgust within his stomach having to comply with a xeno but knew Caphen was in command and he was to follow him. Show you are weak but fight as you are strong. He remembered the words of Rylanor and went with it slowly putting his bolter to the ground on his side but keeping his hand near his belt were his smoke grenade was attached planning to use it for a possible escape for the squad if ordered by Caphen or if the xenos began taking them out when they disarmed.
Elijah growled and was ready to blow a Frag Missile into what he believed the origin of the enemy, but the Sergeant gave orders to stay down. Standing closer in the center of the circle, he moved actually up to Isaiah (@Casavay ), his own Missile Launcher lowered so far, he put his free hand on the shoulder of his brother. "Follow the lead of Brother Caphen." He reminded him with words of his own anger, trying perhaps more to relax himself than his younger brother. Forsaken daemons of this world... Hiding and talking while very much threatening them. Too foul of a spirit to dare a fair battle! Cowardice, the worst aspect a warrior could manifest.
Isaiah would have had a few choice words to say about this matter of cowardice, but conceded to the Sergeant's orders and his brother's words, laying down his weapons as asked. It helped that the words that commanded him to came from a leader he could respect and the man he loved the most. He growled lowly while doing so, and looked at Elijah. "Wretched creatures, the lot of them. Dishonourable and cowardly..." Let loose, he would annihilate them. At least in his own mind.
X-077 Settling into the formation designated by Champion Rylanor Hadrian glared at the eldar that seemed to ghost out of the jungle, a hand resting on the hilt of his chainsword. When Caphen, Sergeant Caphen now, ordered the unit of obey the xenos Hadrian crossed his arms, not relinquishing his weaponry but not being truely aggressive either. In his mind it was an acceptable comprimise.
