Oliver stopped in the corridor and let for a few moments Tony's words to sink in. Oliver sighed realising that Tony was right but struggled to accept it. "I know the Vault isn't completely safe... How could it be now people are in killing us but it must be nay has to be safer than outside of the Vault. The Vault has been safe for nearly two hundred except for the odd Mirelurks and Rodents." He thought hard about his next words trying to find any and every reason to not leaving the Vault, it also hit him that he was afraid. He only knew the Vault just as the rest of them but the idea of leaving was just horrifying to him. Perhaps leaving was for the best and it would give a higher chance of survival but it seemed a stain of injustice to abandon the Vault and it's people. "Alright you old bastard, if the Vault is dead and I mean the majority of those who lived here are dead I will leave with you, but until I am shown the Vault is pretty much lifeless I will stay here and fight back. Promise me though, I really mean this, we will make the bastard who killed our people will face justice from us. Promise me this and I will follow you out of the Vault." Oliver then sunk his body slightly with the realisation of what he'd just committed to but the thought of avenging those fallen in the Vault raised him up and steady his weary body.
@dx144 He coyly smiled as he walked over to Oliver. He stood next to him for a second before saying or doing anything. Tony placed a hand on his shoulder and said: "Ollie" he said as sincerely as he could, "They're already dead, we just need to remind them of that fact." He looked down at Ollie's blood stained jumpsuit and jabbed him with his wrench to get him look down at it. "Wipe that off will ya? You look like a crazy person." He looked out to the rest of the group as a whole. And he made an announcement to them. "Let's get to the Armory. Arm ourselves. And then make these bastards wish they've never stepped foot in this Vault." @Casavay He walked over to his daughter, his face softened as he addressed her personally. He looked at her right in the eyes. His voice was soft as he spoke. "Aggy" he started, "I don't know what's out there. I can't promise it won't be dangerous. Hell, I'm scared myself. But I can promise that I'll make sure none of that ever gets too you. Because I'm more scared about losing you then I am about whatever's outside the Vault. As long as Daddy's still breathing, you'll be safe Aggy. I'll make sure of that. I'll never do anything to knowingly endanger you." He hugged his daughter in a loving embrace. He chuckled a bit and stated. "Besides, your old dad can be a whole lot scarier then whatever's out there. And you still stick around with me."
Ruby clutched at her grate and kept as quiet as she could in the fight, which seemed to last forever. But then there were voices down below, voices she knew. She felt a lump in her throat at Old Mr Larux's words, and she struggled for a moment not to cry. Partly in relief at still being alive. But there was a greater danger here than just the four outsiders - that is, they weren't from Vault 41, who knew where they were from? Outside was a radioactive wasteland. Wasn't it? Was it? She gathered her resolve and climbed down from her vent. Automatically, she took the first aid kit from its place under the kitchen sink and made her way to the edge of the tense survivors. "No .. I'm all right," she said, gaining a little bit of her natural cheer back as she saw that no-one else was - no, wait; they had lost one. Just a lad really, killed by these murdering scum without any reason. They just - why would anyone do that? Couldn't they see he was young, far too young to eat? Ruby wanted to cry, but she knew that she couldn't go to pieces. No-one needed her to be soft right now. She had to be useful and she had to act. "Is anyone hurt?" she asked, looking around. She sniffed. Dead bodies leaked, and Ruby knew this, but so long as no-one got any infected wounds they should be all right. No nurse is a stranger to body fluids. "If we're all uninjured, we should take some supplies from here wherever we end up going. Especially if we go ... erm, far." She couldn't quite wrap her head around the idea of leaving the Vault. [Sorry guys, was out for the afternoon at friends'.]
Agnes breathed slowly, holding her father tight. His talk was madness - going out into the wasteland, a world that she had been raised to believe was even worse than unlivable, no, actively hostile to any form of life, like a perverse, ravenous genius loci - but, the worse part was that he was right. Weird people had found them, and they could find them again. What if her dad slept at the time? Or she did? What if the Overseer was unarmed at the moment, or Ms. Heyes or any of the other guards weren't around? What if she didn't have a table, or Ms. Lee a vent, or any of the others had not been so quick to react? She did not want to think about it at all. No. She'd rather revel in the symbolism of his blood rubbing off on her - literally, the wet stains of his gore-coat blemishing her jumpsuit. "You're not scary", she told the centre of her universe, only unwillingly seperating. "You're like a big, angry teddy-bear." The cook turned to look at the others, happy to see the nurse was fine, too, no, happy to see that everyone around seemed to have avoided gruesome fates beyond some hurting. Cuts and bruises could heal - dealing with sharp implements all the time, she knew it well. "What... what about the others, though? The people not here right now... Uh... Mrs. Drax, Ma'am? What about the rest of the Vault? - and I'm not entirely sure it's smart giving most of us, you know, armory stuff, dad... I never held a weapon my entire life. I heard they're dangerous!" (@GobMaw_HellSmasha | @lord-watchman )
Oliver took a few second before speaking up again. "We don't know that Tony! We need to find out if they are or not. We're not going to abandon the people of the Vault to become the sport for any of these psychos!" Oliver's outburst was followed by a bit of heavy breathing before he did notice he'd a splatter of blood on him. "I didn't even notice... I'm going to clean myself up..." Oliver then walked off to a sink and washed out the blood stains and his jumpsuit before returning. "Doesn't the Overseer's office have access to cameras around the Vault? If we check those cameras and can't see any Vault Dwellers alive I'd feel much happier." Oliver raised his Nailgun as he noticed the figure of Ruby. "Damn it Ruby! Don't sneak around, if I was more on edge you'd have a nail in your skull right now." Then lowered his Nailgun as the danger he thought was a false alarm. "Anges, we need weapons as these psychos could be much more than us and if we want to put them down quickly we need more powerful weapons than a Nailgun. If you're not comfortable with handling a weapon then I'm sure we won't force you but I'd feel much safer with a pistol or rifle in my hands over a Nailgun."
Ruby held up her hands and looked as harmless as possible. She thought she'd made plenty of noise, what with talking and all, but Oliver was twitchy. Hardly surprising, really. "Is anyone hurt?" she repeated, waiting for a bit before going to the kitchen food prep area and selecting the largest kitchen knife she could find. With the sharpening stone and a small, sturdy vegetable knife. Thus, she would be ready to defend herself and prepare supplies. Or at least make food. No, Ruby had no idea what she was doing with a weapon. But she could dice like a champion.
"I'm not afraid of shooting a gun... I'm afraid of shooting my dad. Or you, Mr. Sonlen. I like the people here, but what if I do something stupid and a gun breaks, or I hit one of us? Or myself?" Seperating from her father, Agnes sat on one of the padded benches, resting her head on a hand. "I don't think that's mighty keen. And I'm sure there is lots of other people who shouldn't shoot, like me... If we even have to leave... I love my father, but I sure hope he's wrong!"
"Sorry Ruby... As far as I can tell these guys are all safe and don't worry about the blood I think it is all those psychos blood." Oliver kept his eyes down as he was a bit embarrassed and ashamed that he'd almost shot a fellow Vault Dweller. Then looked up as Anges spoke to him. "You're not going to do something silly like shooting one of us so long as you don't shoot as we're in front of you. Even then your dad is pretty handy with a pistol from what I've heard and he wouldn't let you use one unless he thought you were able to use one. Even if only a couple of us have firearms that'd be enough but everyone should take one just in case. We don't want someone to get taken or even killed because they didn't take a weapon." Oliver then asked David, "You done fooling around with that corpse yet how many nails did they have on them? They could come in useful shortly."
"That's all right, Oliver. So long as everyone is all right I'm fine too." Ruby smiled and shrugged a bit to show no hard feelings. If everyone else was OK, then she was OK, and she wanted things to stay that way. So she got to gathering a few of the more carryable things to eat, things that maybe didn't need a big oven or lots of pans. She bundled them up in a plastic bucket with a few tea towels. Bucket in one hand, first aid kit box in the other, she tried to look steady and reliable, even if she was all fluttery inside.
Oliver smiled back at Ruby feeling like she truly meant it and felt a little bit of forgiveness at his actions earlier.
