Deep under artificial ground of West Palm Beach, Florida, developed over the decades in order to allow better building foundation in the peninsular state, Vault-Tec constructed one of it's many Vaults. Vault 41. Since it's construction in 2062, a lot has occurred on the world. The one thing everyone feared did happen. Nuclear War.

It was total annihilation for the world and who knows what is still standing, and what was gone forever? And especially Florida was a popular target for the Red Menace as the ports of Miami had been re-constructed into a Naval Base to send ships across the atlantic, to the north of Europe to allow pincer attacks and defend against possible nuclear submarine attacks. Another factor were the very many manufacturing complexes and Nuclear Power Plants that fueled the power grid of the United States of America. But even that, mattered little now.

The Vault lacked breedable animals after the nuclear attacks and the Vault Dwellers did not know what to do at first. They tried to go completely vegetarian, but there was not enough farming space to feed everyone. Soon, the first overseer forced expanding further in the ground. Tunneling ways out as food became more and more scarce. Rations were further and further cut. At one point, twenty years after the last piece of meat had been consumed, a case of cannibalism has been reported... And from then on, they realized... It was a necessity until they could find a solution. Thus every person over 40 was being devoured to ensure the survival of the others. It was not gone without resistance at first, but the hungrier the people got.... The more acceptable this solution became.

Eventually, the fifth Overseer, a young woman at the age of sixteen finally struck 'gold' for the Vault Dwellers. Having developed a life-form scanner, the Dwellers finally could dig with more precision and hunting purpose. Starting to tunnel towards 'Mole Rats' as the dwellers started to call them, and hitting here and there several big nests. With finally meat beyond humans and more and more farm ground gained, it appeared a stable solution had been found. But everything changed when once a tunneler forgot to check for water, hit a groundwater reservoir and flooded many sections of the Vault, but luckily it could be sealed off and only few humans were lost. But a lot of farming land was gone...

However, by pumping the water out piece by piece and regaining some ground, they managed to actually let one area be filled by softshell monster crabs which were called 'Mirelurks' from henceforth. The Dwellers would first shock the water with electricity, then steal eggs and kill the stunned mirelurks, thus getting a permanent source of food. And the Mirelurks were huge and many! Other sections continued to hunt Mole Rats and so the Vault numbered 41 gained a post-apocalyptic mean of a balanced diet. Seafood. Steak. Vegetables. And humans that died were still honored by being eaten alive of whom chose to give that honor, in respect to what the first generation had to do in order that it could come this far.

By now the counting of generations was completely lost. It was just a day after a massive birthday party for Jimothy (@DeranVendar ). However, the 'morning' was quite a rude awakening... The Vault door, forever thought broken, irreparable, suddenly opened from... Outside. Those that were nearby were met by humans with crude armor and weapons - killed without remorse. During the attack, together in the cafeteria, enjoying leftover cake from yesterday, were...

  2. Tony Larux was currently sitting his daughter Agnes down and giving her the 'talk' before the shit hit the fan.

    @Casavay

"Now remember Aggy, your old dad's going to be forty soon. And that's about the age my parents were when they were fed to the vault. So I just wanna go over this with you, and let you know ahead of time. That daddy loves you very much. I really wish you had the chance to know your mother better. But you know, them Mirelurks are bastards and all. But you know who you can really blame for her death, the overseer, for sealing your mom away to die via drowning or being torn apart by Mirelurks. I hope it was drowning quite frankly. So...Stay safe, don't change who you are and...uhh...remember to brush your teeth...and... Umm...am I forgetting anything?"

He tapped the side of his head to think of anything.

"Ah right! If you ever have a boyfriend- or you already have a boyfriend and you have yet to tell me - remind them that I have a pistol in my dresser, and an itchy trigger finger."

Then a gunshot was heard, Tony's expression has not changed. As if his sheer mentioning of gun brought the sounds of gunfire with it.

"See, just like that. If they did anything too you. It'd sound just like that Aggy. And don't think your old man isn't capable of it. My eyes might not be what they used to be thanks to all the work they've put me through, but I don't need to aim from point blank."

The sounds of distant screaming on the other hand coupled with more gunfire did successfully get him to change his expression to one of confusion. The gunfire at first could have been misconstrued as simply noise from the firing range. But now it came to his attention that something could be wrong.

"I'm gonna go check what's going on...Aggy, you know what to do in case of Mirelurks...I hope." he said, sneaking toward the door to the cafeteria as quietly as he could, just in case it was a case of Mirelurks breaking in from the underground passageways he wanted to stay on guard. He even took out his monkey wrench just in case a Mirelurk came charging through the cafeteria doors. Even if his monkey wrench wasn't going to help overall, simply having it on hand made him feel better.

Going for a sneak attack with my monkey wrench to anybody that would walk through the cafeteria door. I'd like to look out the door or some window to get a peak at what's going on outside.

So as far as actions go. Sneaking close to the entrance to the cafeteria, making good use of any tables as a means of covering my approach, monkey wrench in hand and waiting in ambush.

Also thank god for explanation to missing mother. Also give me an excuse to introduce inter party conflict early on. Which is always fun.

"Didn't do it. " Jimothy nonchalantly replied to absolutely nobody as he sat there in a steel folding chair, feet propped up over some make-shift railing with ankles crossed. Paging through an ancient decaying issue of Grognak and the Amorous Witches of Trattlemor Tower his head perked up momentarily, slicked back hair bouncing slightly where it hooked out over his head in the front. "That's goin' on a bit longer than usual, wonder if they hit another nest down in tunneling, maybe some dip shit got handsy with Agnes. " Snickering a touch at the thought of ancient Tony trying to gun down anything other than his own head eyes fell back to a familiar page he could probably recreate by memory at this point. Certainly couldn't of been Mirelurks, whole point of him sitting down here by his lonesome was so that if any of the harvesters gave a warning chime through the maze of bells strung up around the reservoir he could just flip a switch, fry the shell fish freaks and let other more veteran workers clean up. Boring as all hell but it was work light, even got to carry around this heavy ass wrench. A hand scratching idly at his crotch Jimothy looked up again. "Alright now that's just getting distractin' all that gunfire. " Standing up he gave a glance back toward the various cavern tunnels dotting what little dry patches they had dug out around the place, lip curling up a bit as he weighed the responsibility of protecting those harvesting versus investigating who flipped their lid.

"Could be a hero..." Eyes spacing out briefly as a fanciful image of him cracking his wrench over the head of a ski-masked vault boy mascot played through his head, promptly followed by several attractive women tackling him to the ground while a crowd of inferior ugly lookin' folk applauded over the maniac's body. "Nothin' has happened down here for a day at least, what could go wrong? HEY BOYS AN GIRLS GONNA GO SEE WHO DIDN'T WANNA GET MADE INTO CHOW!" Not like he was unlucky or anything. Hightailing it out of there with a quick quip to warn both Mirelurks and those hard at work praying they didn't die Jimothy began sprinting along earthen tunnels with a broad grin and chest puffed out. "Jimothy is on the case!" Should of been a security guard, dumb-ass G.O.A.T didn't know what it was talkin' about! Probably shouldn't of just penciled in answers at random though.

Selina got up and looked for a com device in the cafateria as she put her 10 mm pistol and holster on, "whatever has caused this il find out" as the girl spoke she started to wonder what was going on.

  5. Just a bit longer til my shift. That was what went through the mind of David Thomas as he grabbed a last snack in the cafeteria. The young man was decked out in his gear as usual, Tunnelers being a back-up for Vault Security as the thugs seemed to possess no ranged weaponry, and glanced up from cleaning his glasses when he heard the sounds of gunfire, wondering who it was as the number of people owning a firearm was relatively small.

The movement of Old Larux drew David's attention to him and Agnes but the Overseer's statement put the Tunneler at ease. She might be ten years younger than him but she'd become overseer for a reason and hadn't yet done anything to upset the Vault. She could handle whatever it was.

Unlike her fellow Vault Dwellers, who took it with extreme nonchalance, Agnes flinched at the gunshot interrupting the relative peace of their cafeteria. Now, she wasn't a coward per se, but her first instinct to this horrible noise was to hide under the table for cover. Not the most elegant solution, but it seemed better to her than to risk being horribly killed by whatever produced this terrible din.

Even worse, she had no idea what to do in case of Mirelurks, watching her father leave, armed only with a wrench, to face whatever this was. But for now, she remained there. After all, she was just a simple citizen of the Vault, no security officer or aspiring hero.

  7. Tony took a moment and looked back to see his daughter hiding under a table. Which was admittedly a pretty good idea on her part in case of Mirelurks. He figured his daughter remembered what to do in case of Mirelurks afterall. And that was hide and don't draw any attention to yourself. He gave Aggy a smile and a thumbs up before bringing his attention back to the door.

At this point in his life, death might as well be a month away or right around the corner. It wasn't necessarily brave of him to be willing to go toe to toe with a Mirelurk with nothing more then a wrench. In fact, it was more downright stupid then courageous, a fine line he has crossed many a time in the recent years. If one was to be entirely accurate about him, he just didn't care anymore. Some brat orders him to seal off the flooding sections of the Vault, leaving his wife to die. He's turning 40 soon, and he knew what that meant. And quite frankly, being mangled by a Mirelurk felt like a better option then to wait and be served on a silver platter. If he didn't have Aggy, he'd really have nothing to care about.

So he just kept by the door and prepared for an ambush against a horrible crab monster, waiting for whatever was going to happen. If he was going down, it was gonna be swinging.

Ruby had been working on meal plans. Since her training was to be a nurse, and her hobby - well, one of her hobbies, Ruby had a lot of hobbies, she hated to be idle - well since then, she'd made it her personal mission to make sure that each member of the Vault could choose from a selection of dishes that made their daily calorie allowance both tasty and nutritious. She had a pad of squared paper and a file of notes. Sometimes it was hard getting the older ones to try something new, but Ruby had her own supply of nearly endless enthusiasm.

None of this prepared her for the sound of gunfire and judging by the reaction of Old Mr Larux it was not a drill. Ruby felt her heart skip a beat. Then she remembered her survival training. Duck and Cover! Though she didn't hear any sounds of a cave-in. More ... shooting. So she grabbed her notes, shoved them into her bag and slung it over her shoulder. She ran to the back kitchen and scrambled up onto the top of the stainless steel work surfaces ("Hygienic and Clean! Designed to make your wife's life easier!") and quickly twisted the dodgy air vent grate off its one remaining screw.

"Come on!" she hissed to one of the other non-combat types at table, as she got herself into the air vent, ready to pull the grate closed. "We can hide in here!"

Summary: Hiding in the air vent. With my stuff. Plus anyone else who wants to hide. All quiet-like. Sssssh.

John had been at a table with the others with the overseer on the break with a few of his other fellow vault dwellers reading his detectives comic he received when he was 8 from his dad.

He sighed a bit remembering his family was gone, His Father dying in a mire lurk accident when he was 10, and his mom dying on the operating table when she had to have surgery on her heart when he was 15. That is when he began his work as the current and previous overseers assistant.

Help making sure everything in the vault went right, filing papers, making notes on supplies and how work went on in other areas of the vault, Just to make sure everyone lived from day to day and were at least a bit happy. He took a sip of of his coffee when he suddenly began hearing gun fire and began seeing everyone get up. Miss Ruby and Agatha took positions of hiding and taking cover.

He got up with the feeling of weight being added into his gut. Alright procedures, procedures, He thought to himself as he got up from his seat. "Everyone please remain calm, Security and our Overseer are going to see what the trouble is and that it is taken care of please remain calm and take positions of cover and spots to hide if you are unarmed." John said trying to make sure everyone was safe and panic would not ensue.

"Mr. Jimothy come back you may get yourself killed or others killed!" John said as he began heading after Jimothy only for him to get out of ear shot distance. He looked back to the remaining residence in the room and overseer and residence. "Overseer, I am going to go after Jimothy. Will you be alright with Officer Carolina and the others keeping the room safe?" He asked before he went after Jimothy.

Ruby gave John an anxious nod before she pulled the grate back to cover the entrance to the grate. Making sure she didn't leave any external signs and pocketing that screw so it didn't give her away. Crouching back, she held her breath, trying not to be seen or give herself away.
