The Path of Damnation

Discussion in 'Eldar' started by Demetri_Dominov, Aug 5, 2015.

  1. It's not that I think there wouldn't be a rejection of conventional culture, it's that I don't think that rejection would include worshipping a chaos power. I'm basing this primarily on the "fall", and that there don't seem to be any documented examples of a chaos eldar (and I think that there would be if it had happened). The reason of not having any documented examples isn't full proof but speaks for itself. I think the fall is evidence that Eldar react to Chaos differently than humans. Their souls are drawn into the warp instead of being corrupted like a human with mutations and insane behavior.

I'm not saying it's impossible. But the Lexicanum doesn't really suggest that there are chaos worshipping Eldar. It doesn't say the opposite either. I just think that it's more likely that it isn't possible. I think that their souls would be sucked into the warp when they are corrupted rather than any change (mental or phsyical) within "reality".

Well we don't see Chaos Orks, we don't see Chaos Tau and we don't seen Chaos Eldar. So it's likely that Chaos just simply put doesn't have a pull on them and The Fall is probably one of the first stories a child Eldar would hear of no matter where they were born. Also not sure if this point was made yet but the reason Khaine "survived" his ordeal with Slaanesh is because Khorne intervened and said something along the lines of: "You cannot kill this one, he is mine." Not entirely sure what that could mean but it is more then likely one of the many mysteries that GW put in so we can torture ourselves for hours trying to figure it out.

Another note: Path of Damnation is just another name for the Path of the Outcast and may also be specifically refereeing to Corsairs and other rogue Eldar that have given up on Cratfworld, and Exodite lifestyle, but neither are they Dark Eldar.

  3. There are numerous xeno races who worship chaos. Ork who worship Khorne are called Blood Boys, known for collecting skulls. If they become too unorky, the uncorrupted usually kill them.
Tau have little to no presence in the warp, but mutation isn't impossible if exposed to the twisted powers of the warp. Which isn't common outside of combat with chaos forces, as they don't have warp technologies or use the warp for travel. Slower, but all around safer.
In a Ultramarine novel, a minor Kabal archon "flirted" with Slaanesh. Believing himself favored and thus could use Slaanesh for his own ends... Didn't last very long. However, that's not to say lost Craftworlds haven't fallen to Chaos in the past. It wouldn't be hard to imagine desperate and lost Eldar pledging themselves to another force in exchange for protection against she who thirsts. Khorne might like a few OCD Eldar Blood Knights, or Tzeentch a crafty scheming Eldar sorcerer, or an unlucky group of warlocks failing to rescue Isha falling to Nurgle's garden?

@Istauran There are several instances of Khorne Orks. Some by choice. Others by influence, and the rest by enslavement of convenience.

What I find particularly interesting is the example of Orks being enslaved to fight for Khorne's pleasure to fight every day against endless hordes of demons in front of the brass citadel. This is an entire WAAGGHH, Warp and wierdboyz included that have gained so much favor with Khorne, he actually takes time out of his hate filled day to observe them bashing his servants into a pulp.

So at least with Khorne, a wayward gladiator from Commogragh or an Exarch who has completely lost themselves in the lust for slaughter (which we all know obsession is a true danger of the Eldar) seems possible. Especially since both elite sects of the Eldar go into the warp in search of crone worlds (or in the case of the Dark Eldar, to directly fight against Slaanesh.... losing one's way both figuratively and literally would seem to be a possibility.

I suppose it is possible with all the corsairs running around, but it is very likely that it is extremely rare. Unfortunately we do not have much information on the topic of top tier Xenos Heretics.
  6. Well we saw something like Chaos Eldar in the first Dark Eldar novel. One that was demon possessed and the other that was just a demon wearing a man suit. Any of their followers would have been on the path of damnation as despite not knowing whom they actually served, that wouldn't really matter, the daemon can ensnare their souls through what seems like a regular agreement. They basically had a whole little cult going on, even if only one of them was aware that it was a cult, but knowledge of the nefarious undertones of chaos has never been a requirement for enacting them.

If we take that novel as a legitimate view of the Eldar, then we can presume that it is possible that during a Dark Eldar respawn it is possible for them to bring something back with them when their soul returns, as possessed Eldar are confirmed in that book. We also see several organizational dealings with said chaos tainted individuals, the Incubi will turn on their ward, Harlequins will plot their downfall, and a Haemoculous will unmake his abomination(and probably never tell anyone that it happened) so part of the reason we don't see just plain Chaos dabbling Eldar could be that they just tend to be killed before they are significant. Furthermore, I imagine the point of dabbling in Chaos would be to achieve immortality, so to enjoy said immortality it's not as if they could go home to their people(who would murder them), they'd be far better off disappearing into the Warp or some forgotten corner of the galaxy.

Basically, for a Chaos Eldar to survive they'd really need to live their lives alone and forgotten, which isn't exactly an exciting story, so that's probably why it hasn't been told.

    No they don't.
    Only incubi.

Anyway... as seems evident in this thread, quite a lot of things are possible. But it is altogether a different question on how likely and how successful it can be. I doubt that "chaos eldar" or stuff like that would happen nearly enough to be considered notable in the grand scheme of things. But it could be something for GW to expand upon. A new faction, corrupted warriors of Khorne from Commorragh or a craftworld (or why not an exodite world too?) is hardly impossible (this is 40k, after all). If we are talking about chaos psykers, I still doubt that Dark Eldar would be involved at that point. I don't think they can just "turn it back on" like that.
Harlequins can be Dark Eldar too though, so that brings the question of what did the Shadowseers do? Or are they never Dark Eldar? Trickery, I say. Trickery at the level of Cegorach.

In any case, an individual or group with an affinity for any chaos god would most certainly not stay in good relations with other eldar.

Yes, by all means open yourselves up to the vortex of Chaos with people like me walking around.

    That will end well.

Actually, some Dark Eldar worshiped Slaanesh and were led a man who went by the name of Karhedros, this ended about as well as you'd expect.

    Also, apologies for double posting.

Perhaps "heavily" was a bit hyperbolic but all Dark Eldar do acknowledge Khaine. It is only the only god they recognize and yes, the incubi take his worship to a whole other level than the rest of the Dark Eldar.

Dark Eldar do all have latent psychic powers but they choose not to use them through drugs (lots and lots of drugs), extreme parkour, and mental training. Some psychic gifts are permitted like those who are pair bonded with each other. Dark Eldar can indeed "just turn it on" and there have been examples of archons being doomed after starting to dabble in the forsaken practice of witchcraft and daemonology. All they'd have to do is ease up on the drugs and start flexing their psyker muscles.

I just don't think that Khorne would give a crap about an Eldar who spilled blood in his name. The Eldar have the stink of Slaanesh on them, they are all psykers to some degree, and they (for the most part) do not pursue "honorable" combat but instead use guile and guerrilla tactics. To get his attention they'd have to do something like kill an entire world, take all of the blood, skulls, skin, and meat from the war, make a haemonculi sew it all together in a gigantic Khornate abomination, and then set it free on a shrine world. Then he'd rinse and repeat until he had an army of giant twitching murder skull daemons and then attack a Space Marine Homeworld. After killing the citizen population and gathering geneseed from all the fallen Space Marines he'd then offer all of it as a token of his devotion to Khorne. Then maybe, Khorne'd be like, "Yo. This guy's not so bad. Here, have a daemon arm growin out yo' backside."
