"They closed the gate and murdered each other the moment they thought they were save? Doesn´t sound right for me. Or someone could have tried to leave the ruins and they had some sort of argument that escalated." Gregor examined the control panel on the other side of the door.
Wary by experience and nurture, Lorelei refrained from approaching. "Stay, Ulrich. This is obviously trickery", she warned the Black Templar, even raising an arm in front of him as if stopping a child. Of course, the implied insult was not her intent. But how would the knightly Astartes know? "I want to... chase... as much as you... but we should report this in." Her finger moved to her ear, to contact her brother.
~~Ruin Investigation~~ Konrad Marburg [ @Uriel1339 ] Haras Ilior [ @BadDo9 ] Gladius Tiberion [ @MetalDog4 ] Gregor [ @Schalli ] Sicarius [ @WanderingJester ] Orion [ @Grall_Stonefist ] Octavir Telion [ @matt23 ] "Their bodies are not rising. And we should not mutilate the corpses of the dead, you would not want strangers to put bolt rounds into your head or rip it off after you have passed, would you?" Konrad replied to Octavir, hearing the steps in the distance. "That, Gregor. Or, what I really fear. The influence of the Dark Mechanicus." The giant in the distance came around and it was revealed that it was a Black Templar Dreadnought. "Even in death I serve." It rose it's mighty Assault Cannon, but Actoan jumped forth. "Dreadnought-Brother Brutus, stay down!" He commanded, obviously having recognized his own one. Konrad rose a hand to order to remain still to his group. The Dreadnought did not move an inch, eventually lowering his weapon - very slowly, but not saying anything for quite a while. "The Greenskins must be exterminated, Marshall." And he marched off again from where he came from. For Lord Inquisitor Marburg as well as anyone else who ever met a Dreadnought knew that the man inside probably did not even know that his mission was over. Actoan sent one of his men to check on Brutus, sighing somewhat in relief. Konrad noted the reaction. "At least an ally, not a foe. Let us push onward, we need to find the control node if Necron activity truly is on this world and deactivate it before they rise for good." Personally, he discarded the dreadnought. It was not of his interest and it was an unimportant factor as of now. However it confused him. Why would the Black Templar leave a brother, a dreadnought at that here? By himself? The group marched on, the Inquisitor not allowing much freedom for questions or bothering to exterminate the hundreds of Mechanicus members 'for good'. Would be just waste of time, ammo and effort. Pushing on further, they indeed found finally what a good trace would be. In the middle of a former appearing research center, a Monolith was sitting in the center, in some sort of stasis field, created by four Obelisks. It appeared heavily damaged, ruined and deactivated in fact. It's energy field was strong and combined with the fact that they were underground, it was clear why the long-range vox only had static. "Somebody get Hyspasian and a couple of explosives. We need to get in there, and our only chance is to destroy those Obelisks." Konrad barked, heading straight for the closest. The Obelisks were the only object in the entire ruin so far that seemed to look like they were supposed to be. Perfect, smooth, obsidian-black, emerald green runes glowing and indicating some symbols that nobody of this group could decipher. Interesting enough the Mechanicus corpse line continued until this room and then suddenly stopped, as if something cleaned it up here, knowing that the Inquisitor and his retinue would be coming. ~~Camp Build-Up~~ Lorelei Kirsten Marburg [ @Casavay ] Father Dio Iustus Fraunclin [ @DaKaptin ] Hyspasian Zeth [ @High_Adept_Zeth ] "We should. But the Inquisitor is out of Comms-range. Therefore I say we should engage. My spirit thirsts for blood, milady." Ulrich growled, gritting his teeth and revving his chainsword. And he was right. The vox met only static, Konrad was too deep in the caverns or perhaps there was something jamming the frequency, Lorelei could not discern the cause. So what would their decision be?
<Gladius Tiberion> "I will retrieve him my lord." He saluted to the Inquisitor then marched back the way they had come. The dark hallways and dead bodies did not deter him. He had seen work, and as a professional he felt no discomfort.
"I do not trust shapeshifting lights, Ulrich. We return. You will find many fights in your life still." It took Lorelei all of her willpower to dismiss the Astartes like this, but she was still wary of the man, and his specific choice of words made her cautious. The blonde moved to return to camp, but still looked to the apparition in the distance. "Come, Astartes."
"So be it," he said in response to the Inquisitor. He pushed forward into the next room with the Inquisitor. Upon seeing the obelisks he moved forward to them to get a closer look. "This is all to....set up. Like something knew we were coming and wanted us here." Even though the room was clear of enemies he did not lower his weapons, his paranoia wouldn't let him.
Father Dio Having set up various seals and ingredients, hoping to reveal anything of note from his years of research. Every smell, reaction or lack there of, was made note of. So far nothing appeared out of the usual, bits of flesh and bone staying flesh and bone. From what little he could recover, Dio began to worry he hadn't collected enough. 'Well the body was taken. The holy words of reason speak; matterium cannot simply vanish. It can only be reduced or manipulated by the will of the Emperor. Everything else is a lie and heresy!' Taking a break to set up a portable recaff press, rubbing his wary eyes. 'A dulled mind, produces dull results.' Dio prepared hot water in a large beaker and torchlight(bunsen burner). While he waited for it to come to a boil, Dio went to see if Techorsist Zerg had made any procress. "Hail Mars Borther, how goes your investigation?" @High_Adept_Zeth
