@DJPenguin just had an interview with Nathan. Nathan (and the devs) are well aware of the Ork woes. They, like the Eldar, are also the punching bag of the 40k universe (this is another topic anyway) - the difference being, one of those can actually take a hit. What's more important is the Orks were released... what... 3-4 months ago? Eldar were released 8 months ago, and the SM's were released over a year ago. I'm pretty sure there's a correlation between time of development to in game performance. Quitting, and/or boycotting, merely extends this time since the data they can use for balancing, and the voices of concern over specific issues grow distant or silence altogether. So quitting will actually be a disservice.
Because rushed launches occur when money runs out. This game is not currently in a state that's going to attract many people after go-live and it has earned a bad rep via reviews and word-of-mouth. This means there is unlikely to be a significant injection of more money via post-launch sales. It's possible (other games have recovered after a bad launch) but very, very unlikely. The dev team is going to get cut down significantly not too long after launch when its apparent this game has died on arrival. The speed of updates will crawl down to a snails pace and with the loss of specific knowledge that comes with laying off members of a technical team the changes in those updates are likely to be severely restricted. What you see on live is, in all probability, not too far off all you will ever see. The state of Orks on go live is probably going to be very close to the final version we are left with when all the money for updates runs out.
I was mistaken about the devs not commenting on it then, I only really browse the forums and sometimes the live streams. When was the interview? Also technically you're argument is boiling down to "git gut" in regards to the space marines. You're not implying that all the bad players specifically pick space marines are you?
Orks have been getting the short end of the stick throughout this whole deal. We had to wait for our race to be released after the pve faction and not to mention last of all the factions. It feels as if they didn't put the effort into orks as they did with the others since we're playing with clunky looking characters with statistically underpowered weaponry and vehicles. If they put our faction in before the tyranids, then maybe the balancing of the faction would be more refined and our aesthetics wouldn't be so sub-par because we haven't had the time to test out orks unlike the other three.
Nowhere in my statement did I imply that. But if you insist to bring it up, I will tell you straight up that in my 850+ hours of play, 400 of which was from the beginning of Alpha with only SM's and CSM's, I am very rarely impressed by the skill levels from the majority of the LSMs. They are the most populous faction, and only a handful have left an impression on me to even remember their names. The rest are just numbers racked up on MYST's killscore. Honestly, I have a feeling that a lot of those who were once good at the game either took a break, lost faith, or are just waiting to see how it turns out after launch.
I'm not really sure why you're looking for me to defend the devs for their choices, but I believe them when they say they're still working on them. Honestly not sure what else to say. Eldar had very similar problems. You're only hearing that the Eldar are OP now because we finally got something that totally thrashed the old adage of fighting Eldar: Melee spam, and especially high Teir Melee Spam. It took the devs 8 months to put this single class in. ONE CLASS - that so radically changed the game that there are now 15+ threads about how OP the Eldar are when before people felt sorry for us.
Oh sorry, you're absolutely right. I read it again. Ether way. It doesn't excuse the fact that orks are in a sorry state for launch. Imagine how many players are going to quit when their faction losses the vast majority of games. Also, you said it yourself that eldar have taken 8 months to really get balanced. Orks don't want to wait another 5 months of hell to actually be able to compete.
Much rather use logic and actually convince them than resort to childish tactics that just label the ork community with a bad name.
No doubt. Which is probably why the Orks will undoubtedly be #1 in their balancing timeline when Eldar had taken priority until this patch. On top of that, luckily, you don't have to wait for the keystone to fall into place before your race is complete. Some of it is obviously that Ork melee is bugged - which will get fixed before the 5 month mark. But a lot of it is just tuning. RoF + CoF for the Sluggas - which deals a fuckton of damage per hit - it's just hitting is difficult, and it's sustained DPS will never compete against the Eldar. (nor should it, it's a shitty weapon on TT vs the best assault rifle in the game.) So, bad example obviously, but your melee definitely needs work, and melee has always been giving the devs headaches. And now, it's the lag that's really causing the Orks to suffer in melee. So things to fix: Lag Netcode Ork Melee (re)Balance of Ork weapons. But on the flip side, maybe instead of these threads, create a community by which you understand you're here to play the first campaign with Orks as best you can. I don't think anyone is happy about how close launch is - again, least of all the devs who are not in control of it - so just have fun with your faction, and they are fun. They can even be hilarious. If you seek victory, play with the DLB's or the other big Ork guilds. You'll pug stomp all day and ensure the Orks don't get facerolled overall. Hell you might even win if you play the metagame smart - the Orkish communities have huge numbers - and while in the first hours of the campaign if a faction tries to fight Orks the whole time, it's going to leave itself at the mercy of the "greater" powers. Plus, with all of their problems, I still think they're fun. I love the gas grenades.
Nobody can deny that the game we all paid for does not exist, and will not exist at launch. Sure there MAY be large upgrades and updates down the road, but at present I feel that is unlikely. I'd be happy to be proven wrong.
