Do you think Disney failed at Star Wars?

  1. Absolutely! I'm so angry!

  2. I don't care about Star wars.

  3. No I thought it was good. [Explain]

  1. As long as it hasn't been binned completely. And there's still new stuff coming out for it.

The EU never had a movie to it so I wouldn't complain about it not being used for the New Trilogy

As long as someone talented is doing something with it beside shelving it and focusing on the films coming out, then I wouldn't mind too bad.

I doubt this be the case, and I really would have liked seeing the likes of Thrawn, Kyle Katarn, Boba and Han working with each other on the Big Screen. But I'll take my books, graphic novels, and video games that come out for EU, if they ever really would commit to doing them.

Which they most likely won't unfortunately.
  2. Well it does sound like it has been shelved, at least for now.

They are talking about taking inspiration, if not characters, tech, and events, from the EU to use in the new universe. So we'll have to wait and see.
Maybe the First Order doesn't have a massive fleet because they've been fighting a pesky alien they call Thrawn!

    I can only hope.
  3. I think the reason the First Order doesn't have a large fleet was explained to them going for fewer, bigger ships instead of the Empire's more is better approach due to a lack of resources to create large numbers of them. Which is sort of contradictory when you look at their doom planet.

"With the First Order lacking the numerical superiority of the Galactic Empire, better equipped and trained soldiers"
Yet their suits aren't sealed and depending on how you interpret the cutaway of the dropships, they might also lack built-in night vision.
  4. Except that's the problem. They're not interested in making it an alternate universe, or continuing it, they're just interested in milking what little cash there is left. The Legends brand doesn't refer to another continuity, it doesn't refer to another setting or another timeline. No, it instead labels everything which has passed as being false tales and mistaken rumours surrounding their new "true" canon. So yeah, Thrawn, Mara Jade, Jacen Solo, Revan, the Reborn Emperor and Kir Kanos? They're given an even worse treatment than being made non-canon. Disney's response to criticisms was to go "Okay, now they never existed! They're just falsehoods made up from hearsay and folk tales left in the wake of OUR TRUE STORIES! Enjoy that you fuckers!"

Oh we might see elements of it cropping up now and again, stolen and pillaged elements or slightly changed characters so Disney don't need to pay the original creators. For the moment though, the Expanded Universe is what it is - dead and violently murdered by greedy scumbags bent upon making as much money as they can while driving the franchise into the ground.

Except that Lucas himself never specified he wanted the Expanded Universe gone. He had an odd relationship to be sure, and more than once authors had to sneak stuff by him, but never went out of his way to seriously cause problems. Hell, a few times he actually went so far as to include some elements like Coruscant being the galactic capital or leaving enough room for the comics to bridge the gaps between his prequel trilogy and everything that followed. He certainly didn't keep a close eye on new material and wasn't above sticking to his own plans for things (such as the clone wars, which was previously suggested to be a war between clone armies, rather than one side being droids) but he wasn't actively trying to strangle the life out of it.

By comparison we suddenly have "I killed Star Trek to milk it for nostalgia" Abrams joining and everything suddenly gets ended, and Disney introduces slightly altered versions of EU characters to their series with new names. Odd that.
  5. Despite saying many, many posts ago that I won't post again I kinda have too, if only to defend another fandom touched by JJ Abrams.

    @KillboFraggins

Star Trek isn't dead in the same way the True EU is dead. In Star Trek the original timeline (staring Shatner, Stewart, Brooks, Mulgrew and Bakula) is still being continued by novels.

JJ Trek only requires Star Trek's EU to destroy Romulus in order to remain in line with canon.
  6. "I loved The Force Awakens. It sounds like I’m damning it with faint praise (I’m not! I swear!) when I say it was exactly what it needed to be, a wonderful soft reboot/sequel for a new generation, a whole freaking mountain of fun, and it felt like raw, undiluted Star Wars again. I loved the new protagonists in Rey, Finn, and Poe; I loved the new antagonists in Snoke, Hux, and Kylo Ren. I was all prepared to love Captain Phasma, not just because she looked great and a Stormtrooper elite officer is such a good idea, but because it’s blissful to see more women in Star Wars and Phasma happens to be played by one of the raddest actors working right now. I’m not even a huge Game of Thrones fan, but as far as I’m concerned Gwendoline Christie can do no wrong."

    From Aaron dembski Bowden ;)
  7. Phasma was easily the worst stormtrooper in the movie, folded like wet tissue paper at the first sight of danger and was pretty much the Resistance MVP for the destruction of the Starkiller.
    BikerTroll likes this.
  8. I thought that the new star wars was good. I would say it was my 4th favorite (after the original 3).

I cut the movie slack for a variety of things, but there were two things that irritated me.

    1. The girl was too Mary Sue. Where other Jedis need to train, she can do everything write from the beginning. I understand that maybe the decision was made to skip any build up because audiences don't have the patience, but I still consider it a flaw.

    2. Kylo Ren was too incompetent. The actor did an outstanding job portraying the character, but I thought that he was too weak for what he was supposed to be.

    Other things I didn't like:

The Alliance still being unable to build their own planet killer or deal with the multiple Death Star-type weapons of the Empire.

Finn doing as well with the light saber as he did.

It was an awful lot like the first one. The similarities were glaring.

Having said all that, there was a lot of pressure to get it right, and I think they did a good job. Yeah, they copied the first movie, but that movie was amazing.

I have high hopes for the next two.
  9. I been able to talk to a couple of people who have seen the film, and I got positive feedback, but one had something I felt of interest.
He said "You didn't need to see the previous six films to watch The Force Awakens, and enjoy it."

Now as for Finn, there is a prequel comic covering Finn's time as a Stormtrooper. In that it said that Finn regularly scored in the top 1-percentile during his training. It explains his ability with the Blaster Rifle, and might explain his ability with the Lightsaber (though I do have a different theory on that).

Also, the Stormtrooper called 'TR8R' on the net is actually FN-2199 'Nines', and he was a member of Finn's Stormtrooper Cadet Squad.

  10. Uhh if the Republic starts building planet killers

The whole populace would start calling out "Empire" all over again

So it might not be that the New Republic can't

They simply don't wish too, or end up becoming a stand-in for the Galactic Empire

It could also be a reason for the dramatic lack of military presence in their part. The Empire fell, not just because it lost its two most prominent military leaders, but because rapid expansion was their M.O. Which led to incompetent Soldiers being shipped out and not having enough training to aim a blaster, and eventually stupid bickering and infighting among the Moffs.

    Mortal wounds aren't insta death

    TR-8R has a chance

Just Darth Vader him up and give him twice the sick spins

I would unironically love to see "nines" come back, and not be a corpse.
