  1. I agree that some things in the EU are best forgotten.
    *cough* Darth Caedus *cough*

But as I have pointed out before, it's the EU from Return Of The Jedi onwards that has been retconned/erased.
We don't know if the stuff from before then has been erased.

KOTOR and Revan birthed an entire story line that went into the comics, and covered the Mandalorian Wars with Zayne Carrick's story. And as it is set over 3 millennia before A New Hope, they can retain these stories and characters with little to no impact on what the new trilogy does.

  2. Unfortunately that was confirmed it was erased a while back. When Disney said they were getting rid of the Expanded Universe, they meant all of it, right down to the founding events such as KOTOR and the Infinite Empire. Abrams probably just wants to steal Revan or the Exile's storyline at some point as well.

I just ignore the retcon, honestly. Too much good stuff in there. The movies and whatever else Disney makes will make a cool story, but it won't really be able to compare to such a huge collection. I wonder if they'll let people publish more stuff under the Legends title now

  4. No, they won't. Disney has made it clear they have no interest in the Legends setting or promoting it in any way, so instead they're desperately starting over to try and get the interest of fans interested in the movies. The same fans who were only interested in the movies in the first place and never showed any sign of actually wanting to read up on books about the films. Probably the same ones shrieking about how this is a fantastic thing because they get a brand new film, and to hell with anyone who actually cared enough to keep up to date with the universe. They'll run reprints of older Expanded Universe books and keep TOR running, but that's likely only because Disney sees this less as a franchise than something to run into the ground while they make cash off of it.

It's also hard to ignore a retcon when it's quite literally the reason why an established and loyal fandom can't have nice things. That and the old universe is being crapped on by Disney's creators while they're stealing old ideas for new stuff. All I can see this turning into is a repeat of DC Comics' New 52 but with its failings enhanced several times over.
  5. No everything is fine, nobody cares about established universes and lore anyway.

Yea, I can definitely see why people would be upset about losing so much. I primarily read Old Republic stuff so I'm sad to see that go. Oh man, so I guess there really won't be more Old Republic releases at all, and that is really awful. I think Disney will make some great movies, but it seems like a really high cost.

  7. Well I suppose its better than disney actually tampering with it.

God knows what they would do with it. *Thinks about revan doing a cheery musical number*
  8. Ooooh.
    You are so wrong.

I am a fan of the EU.
Read the novels from Truce At Bakura all the way to the series with the rise of Darth Caedus, reading all about Wraith Squadron, The Black Fleet Crisis, Thrawn, the Yuuzhan Vong, and more along the way. I even read some of the Young Jedi Knights books.

I also thoroughly enjoyed The Force Awakens.

Which would make me a fan of both, which you said was "realistically impossible".
    Just call me Mr. Impossible.

caught between a rock and a hard place there. I don't know why they didn't just do a wipe of post-movie stuff. That would still be really bad, but it would preserve all that history that's been written. But I guess they can make more money in the long run by having complete control. Like, I enjoy that Star Wars is so huge right now, but I'm not as confident in any further releases by Disney. They had to really step it up for the movies because hype, but surely it will just get turned into a cash cow entirely. They've already released a some pretty silly stuff. I don't know if I'd rather all of EU be gone or Disney have the ability to alter things at will. It's dead in the water now, but at least it's preserved.

For now, I'll stick to my Fantasy Flight Star Wars games where I can ignore the canon if I feel like it.
  10. They'd have to keep paying the authors of the old books.
