Oh I agree entirely, it could have been handled vastly better or used a much better overall framing device to tell such events. All i'm saying is that the developers were at least aware of the problems their character created and stated his accomplishments should be taken in broad strokes at best. It's just unfortunate they couldn't make that much clearer within the story itself.
Okay, so they pretty much carried over the same concept as the fourth film. So what? What's the big deal when there's two other movies that have yet to be watched? I thought it was a good introduction to the characters, and it really made me like Kylo Ren as a villain. So yeah, same general concept, but there's no reason to be up in arms about it. Again, two more movies. Hold your horses.
Ya I'm not sure why boba fett wasn't there. Maybe he died or something and it wasn't explained. There is a book coming out in March that takes place a few years before the events in the movies
I have to agree with you. I thought it was very smart to have the same concepts as the original movie. It shows how the characters have the same beginnings, but I can guarantee the next to films will show how different the actual paths the characters take are. And we all know how bad the prequels were received....if they went to far from the originals some fans would complain, if they make it too close fans complain. Some people are never happy
Smart is not a word I would use to describe the plotline, the continuity isn't even good between movies. Their ploy of rehashing A New Hope doesn't make any sense for the status quo of the Universe following the Return of the Jedi. Seriously, wtf is "The Resistance"? It has no reason to exist, the Rebels WON the last movie, with a final victory occuring off screen that saw that the New Republic became the galactic power. Why the hell is their a Resistance or even a need for a Resistance, should not the galactic governing body have it's own formal military, you know, some sort of fleet to show up when a giant fucking ball of death appears at your apparently capital system. It seems more like they took the Empires role as "Space Nazis" too seriously and wanted to throw them in just because Viva la Resistance regardless of if it makes any actual sense. Even more ridiculous is that because the Rebels won they should be the dominant power in the galaxy, not the Rebel Alliace V2 that is somehow still the underdog. The REPUBLIC should be fighting the First Order, because it's a fringe group that poses a direct threat to the sovereignty of their government. It's not a bad movie, but it is overhyped with a poorly thought out plot made up of pillaged ideas that don't actually make good continuity.
Exactly, the whole movie plays out like a Jar-Jar-Abra...Binks written fan-fic. Although it was entertaining "overall" the whole synopsis reads worse than the worse EU stories out there... The only thing cheesier was when there was Han was stuck on a depowered Star Destroyer full of zombie stormtroopers, but that was pretty easy to forget and never have mentioned again so that was okay, more like a "what if" episode. Disney made a "what if" episode Star Wars: What if JJ Abrams made A New Hope.
I quite liked Death Troopers actually. The author did a prequel set during the 'The Old Republic' era that explored the origins of the virus. There was an event in the Star Wars Galaxies MMO as well, centered on Dathomir.
The new republic is still in power, the resistance is just a branch of it, created by Leia. The new republic, after signing a peace treaty with the empires remnants, and promising its citizens peace, drastically reduced its military force. This is why leia created the resistance, because she knew there would be empire survivors who would want the empire to rise again.
Why would they reduce there Military force for a peace treaty with the empire when they know what they could do with the power they still had. I am looking at it from empire at war perspective with Empire being bigger and spread out and the rebels as having only a few worlds but many contacts.
Gotta wait for more info on that im afraid. My best guess would be to show the citizens that a time of peace is upon them
