Except SM don't USE Autocannon in TT because they have other options. Like the Grav gun. And calling weapons 'shitty' when we haven't even tried them is kind of pointless.
Dropping my 2 cents about the damage: grav weapons deal increased damage against heavy targets. I wouldn't be surprised if they dealt more damage the higher the armor rating of the target, just as they do in the TT game. In fact they could be pretty brutal weapons against Terminator Equivalents.
with the current meta beign melee spam, half the LSM team should be compossed of this guns to be effective,i can foresee how it would be,you slow down that melee guy charging towards you,and suddently youll get backstabbed by some other melee guy, also it will be a mess to track your target in a room full of melees, wich is how the game is right now,not to mention friendly fire on a beam weapon with the current blobs that form on the points and teletransportation that melee attacks and rolls cause, good luck trying to mantain the beam on someone. Just another "unique" weapon designed for something that doesnt exist on this game, like the stalker bolter, wich is garbage and nobody uses because long range combat in this game is non existant or owned by autocannons etc. How is this going to be usefull when you already have to get into melee range to capture/defend points? how is a channeled snare usefull when you have the enemy at 30cm from your face all the time? it would be better if it had a ROOT effect, just make it shot "bolts" and those bolts could root the target for 1 second or 2,and make it overheat superfast or something like that to not make the weapon OP @BrentEllison
No, its not better than a bolter, it is worse. Some points that was already clarified by the others: Damage is tragically low Range sucks Melta seems more effective Worse opportunity cost over picking another bolter and especially plasmagun. Maybe I missed it but considering that LSM suffers the MOST from friendly fire, this gun becomes EXTREMELY dangerous against our own teammates. We saw how strong the slow can be in the vid, reducing you to a crawl, now imagine that BEAM weapon(essentially a hitscan over the range) sweeping into a melee-fest. Best case scenario everyone is slowed, worse case your allies are slowed first considering how Tacticals often provide suppression support to our melee guys. IMO Dev's attempt at the grav gun is the saddest and most underwhelming adaptation of SM's most powerful weaponry(on the TT and fluff). I don't understand how they took it in such a direction when the source material gives the following description: "In battle, grav-weaponry affects the local gravity field, using its victim's own mass against them, an ordeal that will stun those it doesn't kill outright. Heavily armoured targets find themselves crushed as if by the mighty fist of a god, while vehicles are left as crumpled, smoke belching wrecks." Games Workshop's execution of grav is that the weapon utilizes the armor strength of the target in order to hurt them, the more armored the more deadly. For vehicles it had a chance to render a vehicle permanently immobile if it didn't crush it completely. It was also fired as a salvo weapon, which meant it was more effective if you were stationary while firing. So my though is why did the dev's interpret it as a 100% utility weapon? Their initial argument is that it is meant to work with a coordinated team. That is a herculean task for how vast the LSM player base is and not everyone plays in premades, solo-queuing is, as with any multiplayer, the most common. I would like the propose that this weapon solves the one issue that LSM has as a whole vs the other factions: our terrible TTK. Our faction needs a weapon that makes us unique vs CSM(which currently set us as inferior SMs). Have the grav weaponry work like this: Rate of Fire: Pistols obviously 1 shot, the gravgun and gravcannon needs to have variable RoF base if moving or not, make it noticeable(i.e lower RoF when moving, higher when stationary). Range: GPistols same range as boltpistol if not a little less, gravgun should have 25% less range than bolter, gravcannon same range of bolter Damage vs infantry: Should inflict damage based on armor of target, not 1-1 as that would be ridiculous but should scale noticeably. Should utterly destroy MANZ, Terminators and Wraithguard but normal ork boyz not so much(should really boost bolters for that, for fluff ). Effect vs infantry: Not a fan of slowing movement, that would be too strong when coupled with this overall idea. I think that we could instead continue to push with GW's idea and have it affect melee speed instead. Have it slow down melee swing times and dashes for like 1-2seconds. Effect vs Vehicles: Should halt vehicles outright with each impact, think like a hard stop-n-go with each hit, sustained fire locks it down completely(much like how powerfist/claws affect vechicles). Would be best answer vs waveserpent shenanigans. Damage vs Vehicles: Damage numbers should be effective with sustained fire but not as powerful as melta. Maybe 5 shots = Krak nade damage, just throwing that out there. What do you guys think? Any of you that play on the TT, especially SM on the TT, have opinions on this?
Okay, you have used the weapon, tested it thoroughly against all other factions and enemy types to have your conclusions fully supported? If not? You are jumping the gun. Pun TOTALLY intended,
In the stream they said that the damage on the grav gun was pathetic, and needed to be increased. They also said that it was still very much a WIP, and subject to change. Don't take what you saw in the twitch as the for sure going into the game, think of it as a small glimpse into its potential uses.
Its a support weapon? https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Grav-Weaponry Its an anti TEQ weapon, its no support weapon, unless you count a rocket launcher as a support weapon. Its made for hunting high armour units and demolishing them. Should work with a percentage slider vs armour value, so that MoN and termies die faster than an ork Look at its damage value on table top, lore and any other sources, its meant to be high damage but high cost like a plasma gun on steroids
1. I was paraphrasing what the developers said about their version of the grav gun. 2. Table Top is, at most, an inspiration and otherwise irrelevant. 3. Yes, I would describe weapons like rocket launchers as support weapons.
The way I see it, adding the Grav Guns to LSM armoury is an attempt to force players into what should be obvious for a Space Marine: COOPERATION. The unsaid reason for adding it to the game is to force the LSM to work as a team, as they should have. All that could be prevented if Free2Waaaagh in at least some form funneling noobs into ork ranks would be in place. Not that I have something against ork players, but it simply would be lore appropriate.
