So I have looked at the grav gun that was shown on twitch and I am a little disappointed with it. I like the way it works and the way it can affect gameplay but I don't see it being very useful in its current state. From what we were shown it can slow 1 enemy whilst they are moving towards you so that a ally can kill them with a ranged weapon, it doesn't seem to do a lot of DPS so wouldn't a bolter be better since 2 bolters targeting a enemy running towards them will get wrecked anyway and it will be faster. And what will happen when there is say 2 melee enemies running towards you and an ally and you slow one down while your ally shoots and gets killed by the enemy melee running towards him whilst you are doing no damage to the one you are targeting the you get fucked by the 2 melee. this is also useless against ranged since it won't affect them. So the grav guns purpose is to slow down the enemy but with what was shown it will be less useful than a bolter with its slow effect being pretty useless. I also don't see how it will be any more useful against tanks than a melta gun and bomb atm, in fact it probably seems worse than a melta. and getting shot at by tanks actually doesn't really matter most of the time they will just run you over so if it can't stop that from happening what's the point. My solution Make the Grav gun beam a lot wider so it can affect at least 2 or more enemies running towards you, it doesn't need to do a lot DPS but its slow effect actually needs to be useful for people to take it. And how it can be useful against tanks and stuff? atm they are not much of a problem except for getting ran over from wave serpents so if it can slow then down a bit and slow it from insta killing people that would be cool. Also keep in mind that I could be completely wrong and it could be good (I personally don't see it,) and I am just being over critical over something that isn't in the game yet.
It's not a weapon that you bring to a 1v1, it's not a weapon that you take for lone wolfing. It's a weapon that one guy in a team takes in order to slow down fast enemies so the rest of the team can shoot them down. It will be useful against melee enemies and against vehicles, it will be less useful against ranged enemies but that's OK. There is nothing wrong with having a unique support weapon. Our Apothecaries lack the support abilities that other armies' healers have, and instead, our tactical marines will get access to some utility, thereby giving us more of an incentive to play tactical. We don't need to call for improvements to a weapon that isn't even on the UAT server yet...
Havent seen the video off it... But did they realy make the lsm unique weapon do little to no damage? Thats nice when you think about auto cannon's and other factions specials...
Problem with wide area multi slow is that a couple people plus one heavy could hold of an entire team in certain locations.
They just showed us the first usable version which slows down the enemy, marks him with a very visible beam of green light and does low damage. It was a demonstration of the concept. It will be tested on the UAT before it goes to the live servers. The weapon is not meant to be a primary weapon for an independent damage dealer, but a support weapon. You should be comparing it to the damage debuff of the Aspiring Sorcerer, not the autocannon. TLDR: 1) It's a prototype, not a final product. 2) It's a support weapon.
I wasn't overly impressed with it either, prototype or otherwise. I'm willing to see how it turns out in a live envrioment however, but personally I think it will be more of a detriment to LSM melee units who get hit by firendly fire.
Yeah, considering the usual SM marksmanship? NOT a good thing. My guild is interested for dealing with pesky Eldar but we would likely give it to experienced troops who have a clue how to play the game. If some random PUG shows up with one, we will likely move to another point. Then again... Would work WONDERS on the Melee warrior in PVE. We really need to wait and see how it works/plays before we can say it is better/worse than anything else.
I know what you mean when you say it is not meant for lone wolfing and I completely agree, It should be a weapon that assists you teammates in slowing the enemy down so they can be killed with ranged, but its effect seems to small to warrant not taking a bolter or stormbolter. I think it maybe it should have 2-3 guys using it a match, but my point is it can only slow down one enemy at a time and without a teammate to back them up it's useless especially in chaotic team fights why you will be next to useless and the fact it won't have any effect on ranged makes it even less effective. Especially if you are outnumbered imagine if 3 tacts are holding a point, 2 have bolters and 1 has the grav gun you are attacked by 3 banshees, you slow 1 down whilst you allies get cut to pieces and you end up offering nothing to that team fight, with a weapon that is meant to hamper melee. I just don't think the positives of this weapon outweigh the negatives it brings with it, even if one person is taking it, the grav guns effect seems so lackluster especially because it only affects one person at once. but of course it hasn't even been released yet so I can only judge from what I have seen, I am eager to try it out.
I am not sure about that since the grav won't affect other heavy classes or ranged whatsoever, and I don't imagine it can be used effectively against a jump pack assault very well since you can't slow down there assent from the sky.
During the stream Brent said that he did not yet know what effect the grav weapons would have on jump classes, this will still have to be decided on by the developers
