I totally get where you're coming from with that. It's like it stopped being an organic world and started being just a game, isn't it? I guess I held on way longer than I really should have. Because I hadn't really had fun for years in WoW. I went to FFXIV though. A game where the story and world matter more than the gameplay. I'd give up on the Founders too, given what you just said.
Different team these days so I guess the respect is gone amidst the cold, hard reality of the bottom line. I quite like the rusted weapons though, it fits with Nurgle being my personal lord and saviour, but it's hard to argue with Loyalist Scum who supposedly have daily cleaning drills and visits to the Techpriest. The Ork ones are pretty tasty as well except maybe the knuckles looking like cardboard, as has been mentioned. With regards to slapping the vets in the face, I think we knew deep down for awhile after the rushed release we were essentially being placated until the game could go F2P/release on consoles for fresh blood and a second shot. I'm at peace with it because I sort of saw it coming, I just hope we start seeing some fleshing out of the neglected factions as a result.
Ork venerable just means it has "more". More size, more bits, more gubbins, more barrels, more ammo, more pointy bits etc. A really strong mek will make a gun that fires 3 different types of bullets, has spinning parts, has electricity sparking off of it, makes ten times as much noise, etc. The more renown an ork weapon the more absurd it is.
So in general, WH40k's version of "venerable" means that it amplifies the aesthetic/core traits of the faction? Ork Venerable: More of everything, because Orks favor overwhelming numbers/quantities. LSM Venerable: Highly ornate and ceremonial, because LSM favor ceremony and ritual. CSM Venerable: Loaded with demonic stuff, because CSM are hugely into demonic corruption. Eldar Venerable: Lots of Wraithbone/Gems, because Eldar are just kinda into that stuff.
Really I think the best thing that we, as players, can do is to to just forget the original vision because it's highly unlikely to happen, and focus on what Eternal Crusade is, instead of what it was supposed to be.
That...actually makes a lot of sense. I don't play Orks on TT (or even own any..I think I might have a couple floating around somewhere. Or I gave them to my brother-in-law), so my Ork knowledge is basic, at best. It does explain all the overly excessive amounts of bits I see on the models though. Learn something new every day.
Yeah pretty much. However with eldar I would say their venerable needs a little bit of age showing. The whole golden age of the eldar kinda vibe. So maybe not super flashy but it has to give off the feel of important. With lsm it's tricky imo. If we're talking space wolves then they would value a weapon for its deeds above all but if it is something like IF they will value deeds AND looks. Same with the ultras. They would most definitly have old dusty weapons in a vault but I feel they would try to keep things as "Imperial Impressive" as they can. Whereas some other chapters would mostly focus on functionality first. Like a salamanders armor might be covered in the skins of past drakes slain. It just comes down to chapter. So as much as I hate saying this...maybe each chapter needs faction specific venerables. Of course not this minute but definitly in the future. That goes for all factions also. The badmoons should have more flash on their kit. Goffs should probably have more simplicity in their guns but lots of big impressive blades and spikey bits. Etc etc for chaos and eldar. Again this is all stuff that should be worked on for later.
I agree. There is definitely enough of a unique flair to each subfaction that they might need their own venerable items. Whether or not bE can spare the art team's time to make it happen is another story though.
