The melee combat system have to change for Eldar's melee class?

Discussion in 'Eldar' started by GhostJinouga, Nov 5, 2015.

  1. I mean like Banshee,I think this class should be a melee class, that means their main DPS should be melee weapons.

And what I think now the combat system in game is not so good for Eldar. The melee in game more like a sub option in class ranger, players mainly kill enemies with ranged weapons.

So what should they change for those melee classes in Eldar?Or they dont have to change the combat sysytem but changed in other ways to make the melee more useful?

Ass/Raptors are very effective in Alpha, I have no doubt they will successfully implement Banshees as a similarly terrifying melee combatant.

Just make them crazy fast (fastest unit), let banshee scream aoe stun, and give them high melee damage with fast and fluid attacks: you don't want that thing running into your room.

i imagine the scream will give a suppression-like effect. no one likes stuns.
  4. but the melee attack bow seem easy to lost target

For melee combat in this game in general you're going to have to aim.. that's almost the entire point of a shooter. Some games don't even have a lock on system and to be quite frank if you're going to be aware of your surroundings you won't use the lock on all the time. If you lock on to a single target in a squad vs. squad battle you're liable to get shot from behind/the side by another member of the enemy team.. Furthermore if melee classes could never miss because of supreme lock on then shooting classes would be at a disadvantage because they can miss.

Usually melee classes are given some means of getting up to the enemy/avoiding shooting so they can be effective and get kills. For example the idea of Banshees being able to deflect bullets with their sword or the scream are designed so that they don't come up short against shooting classes.

A few things I noticed in Alpha are that melee classes are genuinely scary and very killy, it only takes a few swings before someone is down and shooting classes have issues blocking if you get within swinging distance. Combine that with the fact that Space Marine swings will probably always be slower than Eldar strikes and I'd say the Banshee really won't be in a bad place.

ESPECIALLY coming stock with a Power Sword with the ability to move up to an Executioner. At the moment melee on melee looks fine too, especially when every class has the ability to disrupt more powerful attacks and depending on their weapon stagger their opponent.

Basically, I wouldn't worry about it until we actually see some gameplay, which will be a while.

While good to keep this in mind, I think it's too soon to say this because we have not seen Eldar yet nor have we seen all there is to combat like: all the weapons, class progression, or the load out system with character accessories which will adjust health, damage Mitigation, Speed and damage output. Even so, I think they'll fit in fine. They're naturally faster and can traverse obstacles in terrain quicker than the other factions. Which goes along with their being "squishier" and that could also entail more burst damage capability instead of sustained fighting. Hit -> Dodge -> Repeat until they break, you get behind them, or cover is needed. Teammates will also help because I'm of the mind there's no such thing as kill stealing.

We also know basic classes will have access to exarch only weapons in some manner as said here. Triskele for Banshees comes to mind and not just because I really want one in EC, likely a secondary weapon replacing the pistol. Speaking of pistols, any class can use any pistol so there's that too. Scorpions lurking around with fusion pistols will be delightful.
    • Banshees will always have a "shield" because they use their weapon(s) to deflect dakka/bullets. I don't think this will be a full block as a storm shield instead it would be just enough to surviving getting in range or into cover. They will also have a leap to close distance as well as being fast. Plus whatever their scream does, that's probably a cone in front of them. Side-grade potential in widening the cone but shorter range or narrowing the cone with longer range. Suppression + a little damage? Only deal damage if target(s) within a certain distance?
      • "-snip- Howling Banshees fill out the diversity of the ground-based melee character. Howling Banshees perform a function similar to a character with a shield, in that they can charge forward in the open while deflecting small-arms fire (well, small for 40k) -snip-" - said in Official Basic Class List page 29 post #285 by BrentEllison (Lead Designer and Protector). Then when asked by a crusader how they do that he answers: "With their weapons of course!" - here.
      • Question 6 in 20th forum Q&A here also says they get a leap which I'm hoping is similar to the front flip from Warframe in terms of distance and height, to start off anyway.
    • Striking Scorpions will have stealth, so far the only class confirmed to have a dedicated stealth mechanic, plus whatever other scorpion shenanigans.
      • "-snip- while Scorpions are the melee guys that can get in there and surprise you -snip-" - pointed out here.
      • "We're going to try a few different approaches - standard invisibility (sort of an abstraction of their stealth powers), radar invisibility and direct infiltration. We have a few ideas that are a little further out there too, but hide in shadows/foliage is not likely to be an option in the game." - said here.
    • Warlocks will do warlock-y things... Yeah. Them being support class should mean they always have back up around too be it because they follow their team or their team wants to keep their support alive because he/she will keep them alive in addition to providing buffs/debuffs to make things better for their team. They also could have access to a throwable weapon that returns to them similar to Banshees.
    • Dire Avengers will also have melee focused builds with their Dire Blades which have been said to not outright kill but have burst damage potential, in a livestream here @57:37 when the RTS item Mael Dannan was revealed. While it's not been brought up they'll probably get their shimmershield too which could function similar to a storm shield in an asymmetrical way.
    • Swooping Hawks have been described as a Ranged harasser class but they do have a sword as an exarch weapon, could get that somehow or maybe on an Elite Class, because there's already plenty of melee options for Eldar & this way would get the sword while not altering the SH role focus.
    • Then if things go smoothly in 1-3 months after launch throw Wraithblades, as well as the other terminator equivalents, into the mix. [Glorious Combat Intensifies]
Is the axe for Fire Dragons & the scythe-bayonet for Dark Reapers only used by their respective Phoenix Lords? I'd think the shrines would try to emulate them so they'd make their own variants. Then again I'd think the shimmershields would be useful for banshees too so what do I know with my human logic  lol.

ground melee are extremely different from assault melee, melee support don't really rappresent them.

when storm shield sre in you can start to imagine other eldar melee class.

banshee are supposed to dodge bullets, totally different from assault jumpack that are supposed to not be shooted at, ground melee is supposed to charge in themiddle of bullet and survive.
