Someone asked me after I finished Gitshoota's model where the Ork's cigars come from and I realized I had no idea. I've only ever seen Orks with them too so I think they're not a human thing? Any otha gits able to shed a little lore light on me here?
Humans have cihars too btw their just different. Ork cigars are made of squig skin and a type of dried mushroom and i assume grots make them since they do alot of menial stuff so yea, though maybe the ork makes it themself ? Who knows ? But yea orks have different cigars than humans
Most likely the cigar is a "looted" custom obtained from observing humans. Probably from most of the gaurds using them being seen as grizzled badasses. So anything that makes you look tougher or meaner is A ok in ork society. Also from a writing angle orks are the over masculanized faction, the physical manifestation of macho if you will. So anything seen as macho goes well with them. Don't see too many metrosexual orks now do you? ...in fact, question: Are there cowboy orks? Seems like that would be a thing.
It's probably some squig or whatever. Or just fandom being cool and edgy. Then again the original Dawn of War had a Burna with a cigar. SO both?
Because why drink without smoking when you could smoke and drink and then punch someone in the face and then drink some more? It is probably something they picked up from Humans though. most of the ones you see smoking are blood axes. Also there's nothing suggesting orks don't like getting chemically imbalanced so they could enjoy the nicotine (or fungus equivalent) rush for the same reason they enjoy getting drunk.
