Well, i heared there'll be only one server for all the players and grades like the Council with 10 places only, in my head this informations have been mixed with the " We want our game to be aknowleged by Games Workshop " to something like : Hey, why not making the things that happens during the campain really interesting and living by creatings stories, videos or else scenaring important players or those who contributed to the war effort into some kind of histories regulary updated with the names of the players and what they've done during events ? Peoples will find this rewarding and it'll make a real story of Eternal Crusade a step before the other in order to write novels or things like that in the end if the game is aknowleged by Games Workshop ! So it's your turn, Yes ? No ? Maybe ?
EVE online does this in a way. If a big deal happens in the in-game universe the events will usually be published as a short-story on the site. It's pretty neat actually and would be a welcome addition to this game. Maybe at the end of a major campaign they could take the biggest confrontations and events, embellish them in text a bit and perhaps even feature a few players , if not by name then at least by presence in the story.
It's that I would like to see, a story and a content who evolve with the players, since they said " It's not our games, it's yours " it would be a really great addition imo.
An interesting concept, id like to see it but considering ridiculous hectic things will be happening constantly (if it isnt someones slacking on his trigger!) so i think it might be a bit much to ask for. Then again i didnt witness the EVE things so i wouldnt know to comment on that.
If i'm not wrong they'll had a Youtube feature to share with peoples the execution we make, they took the example of an Ork Boyz finishing a Veteran Space Marine so maybe we can consider this as a first step to a living story of the game ?
I believe whoever is in charge of that stuff in EVE looks at data logs of events taking place in order to confirm stuff and the rest they get from player accounts of the events or they ghost the event taking place and view it firsthand. Then they write a story revolving around the events that took place, with a few creative liberties of course - inserting proper lore where they need to. So to put it in context of EC: if a Chaos horde under the leadership of some famous Chaos player makes a daring move and manages to capture a big swathe of territory from the Eldar and then hold the territory under massive pressure for the rest of the day the writer can put together a little story featuring the most visible players there (the guy/squad with the most kills, the guy/squad who accomplished the most objectives, the leader in charge of the strikeforce etc). Obviously there would not be a story about every fight taking place, but rather only about the truly epic confrontations or other special events. There have been plenty of crazy encounters in planetside and planetside 2 for example, that you could have written stories about. And those games do not have the lore or depth that EC aims to provide. I bet it would lead to players trying harder in fights if they knew there was a chance there'd be a short story written about their amazing feats
Having the developers make acknowledgements to the players efforts in game would be fantastic, too few games do this. It's done in PlaneSide 2 but not by SOE. Here's a fantastic BBC News styled series by Robert Stoneman, I recommend everyone watch it Obviously a modern news report wouldn't fit, something more along the lines of the below video would be more appropriate: It's hardly too much to ask, please see the examples I provided above. No matter the scale of a game it's far from impossible to find interesting events happening. What could be looked into is an inform function, usable by leadership figures of the races who can inform the devs of a big fight about to happen. It's what happens in Eve, fleet commanders inform the devs of a big fight about to happen and CCP diverts power to that specific region. It was implemented to prevent 30 second response times for players in big battles. The devs are going to be watching us in game, they need to know who to harass with Tyranids after all. Having a player / group / event focus would be great. World of Tanks does it but it focuses on the more competitive side of groups, they interview top players and they share tips on how to use certain tanks and tactics on different maps.
Great Idea with what i saw PS2 do. This issue I see with EC is that there will be many battles happening all at once. you may have a big army battle in the middle of no where and a small charter battle on an outpost so which one gets the Breaking now news feed. I would to see some post campaign news articles and even videos. Just needs to be planned and done right.
Scale of the game doesn't matter. Large engagements are easily found (See the map in PlanetSide 2, the biggest engagements are visible), as I said in my response it's not difficult to find interesting things happen in even the biggest universes.
