Lascannon shouldn't even have to have a lockon to be able to fire.. It should have a charging time. Its plain stupid to have to have a target to lockon first before being able to shoot.
Main reason why i detest lockon is that i cant find any logical lore-based (yes, logic in WH40K) reason for main anti-tank armament of space marines to have such stupid feature. (though i understand gameplay-based reasons, but dont support them).
The lascannon is perfectly fine and balanced as is. The beamy deffgun May lack the red laser, but if you pay attention to your surroundings you should be able to see/hear a Loota charging up. If you're immobile enough to be sniped by either a lascannon/beamy deffgun; odds are you deserve it for camping as a braced heavy gunner not paying attention to your surroundings.
It is not, balance does not mean weapon nerf for sake of cripled players who want afk on battlefield.
It's primary function is to serve as an anti-vehicle weapon, which it excels at and is it's only dedicated purpose. Doing 65% of a Rhino/Predator's HP in a shot means there needs to be a balanced risk/reward system; I.E. Taking the time to expose yourself for two seconds to charge the shot up. The major complaints of wanting to charge either weapon up and then 'peekaboo' around corners would utterly break the balance of the weapon. As it stands it is a perfect weapon to counter vehicles as well as camping heavy gunners, with a core weakness of not being able to counter anyone or any team that focuses them and therefore directs attention away from the rest of your allies.
Please enlighten me with logic as to why does a lascannon have to have a targetlock to be able to shoot?
Mechanical balance. That is the only reason, and games workshop supported the design decision for both Space Marine and EC. It doesn't matter how much you dislike it having a lock on if the publisher deems it suitable for the setting.
A lot of people want a charge seperate from lock on so they can protect themselves. Atm taking an AV weapon is a death sentance if anyone at all finds you. Since you usually reveal yourself after 1 shot they ARE going to find you.
