This actually happens on live sometimes. With lock-on. Seriously use the Lascannon for alot of games.

Been out of the loop for a few weeks with busted computer. Hopefully I tet my new one today and can actually put some anecdotal and semi reliable personal static data to my arguments instead of going with the "because thats what I want" style of argument I'm forced to atm :p

Also can't say I have never gotten a hit/kill when I actually did fire before. Maybe thats a new thing or a latency issue.

Well i can´t certainly say why it happens but it does. I´m not even arguing against removing the lock-on. I just don´t think the reasoning of it becoming harder to get kills without lock on is true unless you put something more in there. (Like slower turn speed while charging)

Which I agree with. It's very much a situatioj of give and take. I don't wan't parkour marines hoping walls and blasting people with ease using the red laser pointer of doom. I just wanna be able to defend myself if I see a guy running at me from 50+ feet away.

40k canon is unusually clear about the lascannon. In the lore it's used as a sniper rifle and an antivehicle weapon; on the tabletop it's used as a sniper rifle and an antivehicle weapon. It's also been used as both a sniper rifle and an antivehicle weapon in every previous 40k game in which it's appeared (Dawn of War, Space Marine, etc).

So the only real argument for the lock on is game balance. You may find that argument compelling. Or not. But it's all you're going to get.
  6. Kang Kang First Blood!

the game balance is not the reason. the reason is people not wanting instakill snipers ingame even tho many other games do have those AND are balanced.
there are also multiple reasons why people want the charge gone.
well for game balance is one of them.

The lascannon can not stay as weak against vehicles and players in its current form as it gets outperformed in both categorys by weapons which are way more usefull to the general playingfield(PC/AC/HB).
buffing it against vehicles would render vehicles useless(aka dead the second they turn up)
buffing it against players means that people are going to snipe with it.
buffing it against tyranids would render larger tyranids useless.

I shall propose a different method.

    were nerfing the lascannon.

yes you read that right . a nerf.
since all of you fear long range sniping were going to add damage fall off to it. that way lascannons can tickle you at range and wont be used for sniping. meaning we nolonger need the lockon to prevent using it as a sniper weapon. which in turn enables the lascannon to be used to defend the lascannon user from players that are up close.

we also reduce the chargeup by 2secods, down to 2 seconds to avoid melee people running straight at the lascannon and getting a guaranteed win.

will it still onehit people? in shortrange yea. will it be able to clean rooms? no... it wont. TTK is too high to be effective against ranged units ad good luck killing even 1 person. your dead before you are charged unless you flank.

During charge you should be able to aim(slowly) but not move, to avoid going pekaboo.
  7. Browndog Recruit

Will that only affect people, or both people and vehicles?
  8. Kang Kang First Blood!

theoreticaly only people since a reduction in charge time means higher dps. but I guess that depends on how far the fall of ranges.
  9. Kang Kang First Blood!

I shall push this up one more. the AA gun aka Lascannon is NO good against flying units aka swooping hawks. This needs to change.
I propose the lockon to be changed to automatic. point on it klick and it will automaticaly lock onto the designated target making it a garanteed hit, if the enemy does not manage to find cover or break the lock otherwhise

Lascannon... AA? Lascannon is NOT an AA weapon... Lascannon is an AT weapon... And it SHOULDN'T be good against swooping hawks becuase it's an AT weapon. Anti TANK. Lascannons are NOT Anti Air. Therefore your argument is invalid.

Even if it was an AA weapon, it would be Anti Air VEHICLES weapon. A swoping hawk is a god damn person.
