I don't really think so, communist countries never became that much of a caste society, and no one cared about the hype quite as much as they seem to in Tau society. Sure, you essentially had an aristocracy (the kids of upper party members got a lot of doors opened for them) and you would sometimes get people disadvantaged due to their birth, but most people could choose what careers they could look for, at least as far as the overall sphere was concerned (i.e. you could have the child of farm workers become a scientist or bureaucrat). I think classical India, China or shogunate Japan might be better comparisons.
really? A tau's life is determined from birth and race rather than merit. They can choose within the role they are a part of but cannot move out, not to quote a bad game but, they can choose to obey. Else they are exiled or killed.
None of that makes them communists. It even proves they are not communists. Also a bit of insight here, but the members of a Tau Caste are born with aptitudes to that field. An Air caste is,physically and mentally speaking, different from a Water or Fire Caste. P.S:Since im curious, what bad game were you quoting?
government deciding the role of an individuals life sounds like communism to me, but this is the wrong thread to argue in. Ps. The bad game I referred to was Dragon Age 2, some people liked it for me it is in the bottom 10 games list
Communism? The fate of a Tau is decided by his birth, and this has been more or less how it has gone in pretty much every pre-enlightenment society. The children of slaves were usually slaves, the children of aristocrats were themselves aristocrats, etc. It could come right down to the craft your parents would practice. Communism had nothing to do with it - it's not like people in medieval Europe or classical China had ever heard of Karl Marx. It could be a totalitarian society if the government is the ONLY thing that determines what will happen, rather than birth. With the tau, this is not the case as the Ethereals either aren't allowed to or just don't, for example, change one's caste. This goes against the principle of totalitarianism, where the government can do anything and is the sole authority on how society works, whatever tradition has to say about it. At most, Tau society is collectivist - as in, the needs of the society are more important than the needs of the individual. Then again, most traditional societies are also collectivist, and it's not like EVERY OTHER 40 race isn't pretty much that. Heck, the IoM is famous about the focus onpersonal rights and liberties, right?
I will help the Eldar reclaim what was theirs to begin with. I ask only sanctuary. For I am trying to sabotage chaos and loyalist alike. I maybe a SM but I have no more loyalty too mankind. If you can take out humans and orks I am in.
I dont know what the general consensus is,but having played, and loved Dragon Age origins,DA 2 disapointed me to the point that i didnt finish it. The Tau Empire welcomes anyone,so if the Eldar bar you entry, remember our door is always open,as long as you agree to prefer integration to anhilation
A pawn - perhaps, but who here can truly claim to be the player? As long as the game is to your liking, make what choices you have.
